In my Top Five Austin places to eat 7/17/2008

I love this place! It has the best brunch in Austin. The atmosphere is light and pretty - I love sitting at the piano bar and hearing someone play with the lights hanging over me. The food is delightful- especially the brunch. Strawberry butter and croisants free! The desserts are really good as well - And there are plenty of options. Make sure you get there before 3 for brunch and bring some friends. Don't forget to check out the art gallery. Pros: food, atmosphere, brunch offerings Cons: busy! more

Great breakfast and brunch 5/29/2008

Although you might have uite a wait ahead of you ont he weekends, it is worth is when you sit down to a hot croissant and stawberry butter to start! \r Good breakfast selection and quality. We try something new each time we go (at least twice a month) and have never been disappointed. Quite a few selections for the benedict lover (although I am not so could not testify).\r Good atmosphere and always good service. Can't go wrong here. FYI 3 $$$ is too high, more like $$. more

Beautiful ambience 5/26/2008

IT is such a pleasure to walk into a place and see a piano and a dessert counter. Gorgeous artwork on the walls and great breakfast! Haven't had a single thing I didn't like. I recall the eggs benedict being fantastic! Also love to play ""connect four"" while sharing a slice of chocolate cake. :) Pros: ambience Cons: n/a more

A true Austin original 4/7/2008

When I have out of town guests who want something yummy and uniquely Austin - without spending a gazillian bucks - there is one place that never fails to impress: Chez Zee. From the decor to dessert, Chez Zee invariably delivers a unique Austin experience that does not drain the wallet. While my favorites are the New Orleans Crunchy Pecan Chicken and the Ham and Cheese Omelet (so sweet!) I have yet to have a guest not find something to rave about. (And their smokey olive oil and fresh bread - yum!)\r For those wanting a truly special experience, take your guests to the Sunday Brunch. While many go nuts over the Creme Brulee French Toast, I'm more partial to the Bed and Breakfast platter. Oh, and when I want to treat myself, it's the Lobster Egg's Benedict. \r \r It can get busy, so call ahead for reservations. Entertainment is provided with a balloon twisting clown, a piano player, and a slight of hand magician who is one of the best I have ever seen. Where did those golfballs come from?!?!?! \r \r Chez Zee is an Austin treasure and the perfect place to bring your out of town friends. Pros: amazing desserts. unique cuisine. Quirky style. Cons: be prepared for a wait on Sunday - but it's worth it more

Brendaj70 3/27/2008

I have many fond memories of this place growing up. I had my prom date here. I now celebrate birthdays and anniversaries here. My husband and I were having date night here and we noticed this young couple\r sitting next to us. We saw the manager bring out a piece of paper and and rose. I asked our server what the special occassion was and she told me the gentleman just proposed. This is the kind of place Chez Zee is. People's lives happen here. It is certainly my favorite place. The food is great the service warm and \r friendly. A great place for all occassions. Pros: Warm and welcoming more

Best Desserts in Austin 3/16/2008

How sweet it is with such wonderful desserts! The best in Austin out of 40 or more restaurants that i have tried. \r the entrees are always inventive, The new small burgers are great! Dressed with blue cheese and a delectable Carribean sauce!\r This, thankfully, is a unique Austin Dining Experience Place and not a chain restaurant! The piano bar makes me feel that Im back in New York and the service is outstanding. Always warm staff greetings and prompt food delivery. Pros: Desserts, Brunch, Inventive Entrees, Music Cons: A wait sometimes. It is so popular! make a reseration! more

One word... Ribeye 3/6/2008

As a Texan, I love a good steak. I've been frequenting Chez Zee for many years, and I certainly have my favorite dishes (Gorgonzola pasta !!). But while dining there last week, I noticed a new dish. A Ribeye topped with a merlot and boursin sauce. I ordered it medium rare and I should have taken a picture. I've never had a steak come out so perfectly medium rare. The topping was heavenly and didn't overpower the great cut of beef. This was honestly one of the best steaks I have EVER had in my life. I really hope it stays on their menu. I pretty much ignored my friends at the table. I was in Elysian Fields of steak. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. Pros: Ribeye! Cons: A bit of a drive from my neighborhood. more

Best Service in town - Austin treasure 3/5/2008

I love Chez Zee. It's my go to restaurant for when new visitors for Austin come in town - or for business - when collegues are visiting from other cities. i also love Chez Zee for intimate dinners with friends. It can cater to all different kinds of crowds. The surroundings are cute and authentic and the food is delicious with a lot of choice. The service has always been fantastic with all of the wait people always seeming friendly.\r \r I love this place and will be back often. more

Birthday Dinner divine 3/5/2008

Last week I had one of these big birthday's and chose Chez Zee because I can count on them to make it great. There were 4 of us. We made a reservation on Open Table which is really easy and they confirm.\r \r It was pretty busy but we got right in and on time.\r \r I already had my eye on dessert because it was my birthday after all, but we started with the fried dill pickles\r and the crab cakes. The pickles are a must at Chez Zee. and the crab cakes a good to share. \r \r I had my favorite lamb chops. They were cooked just right. The others had grilled salmon, which they grill to temperature. This doesn't happen in very many restaurants and the Prime Rib. \r \r The food was really good, but our server was outstanding. He checked back to make sure everything was cooked correctly and he was pleasant, but not intrusive. I think his name is Chris.\r \r The Lemon Rosemary cake was my birthday choice and it was the prefect end to a great experience. \r My friends got the special Chocolate Toffee Gateau. It couldn't have been better. Pros: Service and well prepared food Cons: they are not in my neighborhood more

Highly disappointed 2/9/2008

My wife and I just returned to New York from our first visit to Austin and we wanted to express our disappointment with our experience at Chez Zee. We are avid foodies and this restaurant just didn't cut it. \r \r The service from start to finish was terrible. It took about 10 minutes of sitting at the table before our waiter approached us with a stack of dirty dishes in his hands to tell us he'd be right with us. Our entrees we're brought out by our waiter while we we're still eating our appetizers and basically we we're ignored throughout the meal and the server was floating around the dining room like a chicken with his head cut off. \r \r As for the food, we were disappointed throughout. We were a party of four so we shared three appetizers. The fried pickles were sliced so paper thin that all you could taste was dry batter. Spinach and artichoke dip was oily, heavy, and slightly pasty. And chicken beignettes were nothing more than fried chicken fingers. Entrees left just as much to be desired. The pork tenderloin, though tender was completely overwhelmed by a peppery and cloyingly sweet cherry sauce. Vegetables served with the pork were practically raw and cold. A salad of mixed greens topped with grilled chicken and walnut crusted goat cheese had a nice dressing but chicken was rubbery and dry, and was capped with a small dry piece of crusted goat cheese. Chicken adrano had a nice flavor but was also accompanied by the same poor side vegetables. We we're tempted to try the signature creme brulee french toast for dessert but we didn't feel like being disappointed any further. \r \r This is a cute, quirky looking restaurant and the menu seems as if it would appeal to a large audience but the execution and service fell well short of meeting our standards. Pros: chicken adrano Cons: poor service, poorly executed food more

Lazy service 11/12/2007

This was my second time going to Chez Zee. The first time the entire experience was fabulous, however the last time was horrible. The waitress took her time taking our orders, bringing the food, and getting the check. She told us she was sorry and had forgotten all about us. We split the Zee Best of Platter and were charged a splitting fee but not given the full sides and the waitress forgot all the sauces on the sides as well. more

Excellent food, terrific service, wonderful atmosphere 11/3/2007

I went to Chez Zee for the first time for brunch/ lunch and was very pleased. My warm spinach and bacon salad was delicious, and I was absolutely blown away by their corn and shrimp bisque. Oh my God! If you go, make sure you get a cup of that soup; it's to die for. My friend had their garden omelette with brie, and while a bit rich, it was very tasty. Everything on the menu looked delicious and it took me forever to decide, especially looking around at all the other customers' dishes. \r \r The atmosphere is laid-back, but very nice. All the art and decorations are so fun and different. The service was great; our waitress was very professional and nice, and she gave us some great recommendations. \r \r I'm looking forward to going back for dinner some night. I highly recommend Chez Zee. Pros: Ambience, parking, service, great food Cons: A little pricey, but worth it more

Chez Zee Happy Hour is GREAT! 10/17/2007

I go to Chez Zee for Happy Hour with my co-workers at least once a week. \r I think that their Frozen Mojito is one of the BEST drinks I have ever had. They have seriously good deals for Happy Hour such as half price appetizers and specials on almost all drinks. \r I can't get enough of the Fried Dill Pickles with Chipotle Ranch and my friends love the Salmon Foccacia and they have some of the best Chips and Queso in Austin!\r There are always lots of cute people to chat with too! It's lots of fun. I highly reccommend it! :) \r Oh yeah and dessert.... more

Neighborhood favorite 10/16/2007

This place is great. My family and I have gone there for years. The atmosphere is eclectic and fun. Our group loves the Happy hour. House wine is $3 and the appetizers are cheap. Rich, the Monday night piano player likes to play name that tune with us. It never fails, I always see someone I know there. The food is really good. My favorite is the Blue Berry Salad with NY Strip on top. The staff is friendly and accommodating. It's what keeps me, my co-workers, family, friends, and neighbors coming back. Pros: large portions, friendly people, good food more

Mmmm... Pork chops... 10/15/2007

Chez Zee is legendary around Austin for having the best desserts in the city. And they do. But I can't get enough of their pork chops. I don't know what their secret is, but I can't stop eating them. Of course, then there is the jalape?o pasta. The sauce is so flavorful, and not too spicy (if you're afraid of that). The servers are knowledgeable and friendly and make you feel at home. I like going on Friday or Saturday to hear great piano jazz from their nifty candy apple red piano. But I'd recommend making a reservation as those two nights seem kinda busy. more

Service was spectacular and dinner was delicious. 10/3/2007

I hadn't been in to Chez Zee in years, but met a friend for dinner a few weeks ago. I was so impressed by the level of service I received at Chez Zee, as well as the friendliness of the wait staff. Then the food came - I had the Ribeye - it was delicious. I was so impressed by how it seems this place is getting better and better over the years. The interior and exterior of the restaurant looked wonderful, as to be expected. And of course, the desserts are to die for. All and all, I was reminded of the quality of Chez Zee - the service, the food, the atmosphere. I am definitely going to come back - and soon. And when I need to bring my friends visiting from out of town to a real Austin place - Chez zee is my top pick. Pros: Great friendly service, wonderful food Cons: I can't get there often enough more

Best brunch in town! 10/3/2007

I absolutely love Chez Zee. While all their food is good, brunch is where they really shine. I highly recommend the Lemon-Poppy Seed Belgian Waffle, and my husband alternates between the 10 or so different variations of Eggs Benedict. Brunch wouldn't be complete without a Frozen Mojito or Peach Bellini. And be sure to check out their desserts - we love their cakes so much we had them make our wedding cake! more

Very nice brunch 8/28/2007

Good brunch. I don't know what the other reviews were complaining of, because that wasn't m experience. This was the first time for my wife and I, and the Creme Brulee French Toast and the Pancakes were wonderful. more

So disappointing 8/21/2007

I have given Chez Zee serveral chances in recent months. For some time, I have felt the service and quality of food have been deteriorating, but on my most recent visit, things got so bad, I don't think I'll ever be back. The ser ver was inattentive and then intolerant when I suggested anything had gone wrong. The nail on the coffin was the $15 chicken salad with gray, obviously microwaved chicken. I don't know many places in Austin that could still get away with that. I hope things turn around because it has been a solid neighborhood spot for me for some time, but I'll wait to hear some positive things before I return. more

What a Joke. 8/14/2007

A bunch of people who have to run around acting like their better than everyone else. I admit it's entertaining to watch everyone compete with everyone else as if they are in some private resturant in Paris. The staff certainly fits right into the fakeness. This place should be on a reality show. \r \r Food is ok - I had some salmon dish there and I honestly could've fixed it better myself, and I am not that great of a cook. Most people there probably can't get over themselves long enough to notice all the things this place isn't.\r Pros: i don't ever have to go there again Cons: pricey, snotty more
