Wants to make money. Does not care about your Pet 4/7/2018

On Friday March 30, my daughter took Bagel to this vet because he had labored breathing and kept falling over. Bagel was 11 years old. I was in the area and I met her there. The vet we saw was just out of school. She stated that the he could have had either kidney failure or heart failure and treating 1 or the other could cause the other organ to fail. She stated a blood panel would help us know more. His panel came back that it was just his heart. We were informed that he was on oxygen and would benefit from a day stay in the hospital on diuretics (to remove fluid from heart) and would go home with 3 medications. The vet stated Bagel was unhappy with the O2 mask and that was why he was barking in the back and he might be calmer in an O2 cage. I asked the costs and she stated $40 an hour. I declined since he already had O2 on. Since my daughter is in school I prepaid around $530 for Bagel's stay and my husband and I left to drive home to Nashville (5 hours away) We left Bagel a more

Might as well throw your money in the toilet 4/12/2012

They will absolutely rip you off no matter what you station in life. Rippled my son off to the tune of 1000 for a cat they KNEW was dying, charging 300 for an enema on a cat who wouldn't eat! All trips will be made back to the vet in Elizabethton, they care and they tell you the truth. Rude, do not allow you to be with your pet in the back, do procedures without asking first. more

Awful vet & astronimal prices 12/10/2010

Dr. Simpkins was the only good thing in this practice and she has left and is now working at Colonial Heights Animal Clinic in Kingsport. This is the worst practice I have ever seen. We first saw Dr. Simpkins - who is the 1 of the kindest and knowledgable vets we have encountered. Our cat was sick and she was off 1 day, so we had to see Dr. Sallee who is the owner - she was rude. She became quite irritated when we starting askin questions about her diagnosis and treatment options. I even overheard her speaking horrible to her staff. She would not see our cat in the exam room with us, but forced us to let her take him to the back (if you wont let me watch how you treat my pet, then you must be doing something I will disapprove of). Then when we checked out it was over $300 (for an exam, stool check, bloodwork). Even the staff seems to feel sorry for us for having to deal with her. Caring for pets is not her concern - she is in it for the money and is very rude to the people who are paying her salary! more

grateful client 6/28/2010

I have been affiliated with Cherokee Hospital for Animals since 1986, initially as an employee as a licensed veterinary technician and over the past 20 years, as a client. The level of professionalism is second to none in all aspects of the organization; from Swan, who has taken care of our boarded animals for many years, to the front office ladies namely Mary, Angela, and Donna to the doctors themselves, especially Beth Sallee, D.V.M. I have trusted this staff with many animals over many years in far ranging animal care senarios. They have provided not just excellence in medical care but the level of knowledge and state of the art care is second to none.\r \r Beyond the tangible medical care is the compassion and counseling that go hand in hand with a realtionship of this nature. With every beloved pet comes the time to deal with the end of that pet's life. They truly care about not just the business side of animal health but understand the bond between owner and pet and what the i more

Very Impressed 6/21/2010

We recently moved back to JC and were debating between Cherokee and one other. The initial call was helpful and the staff very friendly. I asked for Dr. Lapthorne, hearing great things about her. She saw both of our dogs and gave one of the most thorough exams to date. She was kind and very helpful both in her explinations and her quick bond with our dogs. We are excited to have a knowledgeable vet who truely cares for all animals and their future well being. We are looking forward to working more with Dr. Lapthorne and Cherokee Animal Hospital in the future. more

I have used Cherokee's services for fourteen years. For anyone to even suggest that they are rude or unprofessional is laughable. The girls are well informed, accomadating and polite to a fault. The techs are the best and I feel as if they care for my pet as much as I do. When I must board my dog I am very secure knowing they are as safe with the boarding employess as they would be at home. Dr Sallee is the most kind, caring and informed doctor you could hope to find for your pet. If she doesn't have an immediate answer she will search until she finds it. My dog is my child. I want the best for him. That is why I go to Cherokee. more

Best Staff, Best Treatment 6/12/2010

I have been coming to Cherokee Animal Hospital for over 18 years. I would not even think of going elsewhere.\r My pets have been treated with care, kindness and knowledge. \r The extra research Dr. Sallee does for each problem or illness is amazing. \r I am treated with respect and have grown very fond of each and every tech, office personal and assistant. They are professional, caring, devoted people that not only care for the animals they see but for their owners, as well. more

Best Vet 5/11/2010

This is by far the best place to take a pet in need. No vet has ever found so quickly what was wrong with my cat, who is healthy as ever. Everyone is extremely nice and caring. They know thier pets! more

Exceptional Staff and Veterinarians 6/29/2009

How anyone could ever insult any of the staff at Cherokee or question their intelligence is beyond me. The staff along with Dr. Sallee have saved my pets many times over. I have 11 dogs right now and they treat them as well as I do, which is amazing. My dogs are my kids and are treated as such at my home and in their hospital. The staff is very well educated in treating pets and coping with miserable clients. Why someone would waste their time insulting them is just nuts! If you aren't happy, go somewhere else so clients that appreciate them can have that time. Everyone I have spoken to in the lobby is as happy with them as I am. One of my pets had been given up on by everyone because of an allergic reaction to medication given by another vet and they managed to save her live. I would trust them with any of my pets because of their knowledge and education. Dr. Sallee and her staff are amazing and I will never change veterinarians. I will be forever grateful. I will pray for more

Excellent Vet and Staff 6/16/2009

The receptionists at Cherokee are by far the best staff of any vet I've been to--they are wonderful--and Dr. Simpkins is an excellent vet. You can't go wrong with her. (I personally do not care for Dr. Sallee and would go to another vet office if Dr. Simpkins were unavailable.) I have a hard time imagining any of the front office staff being rude to a client. My only complaint is that the prices seem relatively high. more

Nicest Vets Around 11/22/2005

Cherokee Animal Hospital is run by two of the nicest lady vets you could ever meet. Every time I took my dogs in, the ladies were so gentle and caring. One of our dogs was a pound puppy who was brought into the vets office with more ticks on her than fur. The vet pulled over 100 ticks off my puppy. She was so gentle. Even the lady at the reception desk was kind and understanding. The prices are about average, as far as vets go, but the hours are great. They are also an emergency vet, so someone is there all the time. They offer boarding services as well. more
