Editorial review from Citysearch 3/12/2014

This restaurants sushi was ok, but nothing special. The reason for the very low rating is two fold.\r First, the service my friend and I received was awful. We waited 20+ minutes after ordering waters and an appetizer, and then another 20 minutes for the waters to be refilled.\r Second, THIS IS THE WORST SUSHI SPECIAL IN ALL OF RALEIGH. Don not be fooled by the ""Buy one get one Half off"" its a SCAM. Yes you do get your 2nd, 4th, 6th, etc. roll half off; but then the restaurant auto charges you 18 percent gratuity for participating in their special. No wonder our waitress was so inattentive, she was getting paid no matter how quality the food or service was.\r I respectfully expressed my displeasure the the management, and they seemed to care very little that I never planned to visit their establishment again. Do yourself a favor, and go to one of the other hundred sushi restaurants in the triangle that have better service and better specials. My personal favorite is Sushi 9 off of Western Blvd. more

It's OK. I got a lunch special with a 6/7/2012

It's OK. I got a lunch special with a tuna roll, cucumber roll, and California roll. For the PRICE and AMOUNT of food - it's a great deal. However! It's not the best sushi ever. I would definitely have gone somewhere else, except I needed to get take out due to time constraints (and my FAVORITE sushi place, also in the Brier Creek area, only has BOGO-free for dining in). I might go back, but probably not. more

Not the best for sushi, hands down! 8/23/2011

The price was right with the ""buy 2 get 1 free"" but the sushi was average, though the service was competent. more

Mixed Meal 6/21/2010

They atmosphere and service were all fine, and they did replace that terrible Tiger'sTear with another dish of our choice, no extra charge, but something really seemed off about that entree! Pros: Sushi was wonderful! Cons: Tiger's Tear was AWFUL! more

Not Impressed 5/23/2010

The con's line says it all. Our order was wrong. The wait staff was rude. The service took forever. If the place had been crowded I might have understood, but it wasn't. The taste of the food was blah and the portions not appropriate for the price. We won't be going back. Cons: blah food, rude staff, slow service more

Best sushi in Briar Creek 4/7/2010

There seem to be a lot of places around Briar Creek selling sushi, but this one is the best. A little pricier than some of the others, but way better quality. My stomach and I would rather pay more to get fresh, than get half off elsewhere and not get fresh. Well worth it. Pros: Fresh, consistent with expectations more

it's just ok 12/17/2009

The service was OK, and there was nothing bad about any of my food. Cons: lackluster food, not a value more

CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD *update* 11/15/2009

UPDATE: I am submitting a fraud complaint to the consumer protection agency at the Attorney General's office. To those of you who have been scammed by Champa, I urge you to do the same; the more evidence they gather, the quicker they can do something about it! Pros: Great food Cons: Theives more

OK Sushi, great Pad Thai 9/18/2009

We like this restaurant and have returned a number of times, especially on, I believe it is Tuesday night, when there was live jazz. Service is spotty and it can take an age, but usually the restaurant is full, so I guess they are busy. Pros: Thai dishes are quite good Cons: Consistency / quality / service more

Good food, good service 3/3/2009

Great Sushi and Pad Thai! Good, quick service but there can be a wait at lunch at dinner because it is a pretty popular place. Highly recommended more

good for a date 2/22/2009

i went here last night and thought it was pretty average. the presentation of the food is nice and the service is really friendly, but the food itself is just all right--not worth the high prices especially with the portion sizes. you won't leave hungry but you won't have any leftovers either. the items i really like here are the pad kao and basil fried rice, but even those i don't think are worth the money--$13 at restaurant for a plate of rice i can make at home? as for the sushi, ive had it here a few times and it's decent. in general id say this is a good place to take a date, and it's definitely one of the better options at brier creek (though that's not saying much). but if you're looking for an authentic family-style thai meal or lots of good sushi then go elsewhere. Pros: Friendly service, good for a date Cons: overpriced, no reservations for groups under 6 more

Just check your credit card online after dining in 1/30/2009

I found I was charged more than pre-authorization. I faxed and notified the restaurant but they did not get back with me. Just correct the amount. Just not a pleasant place for me to go again. Pros: ... Cons: service, more

Inconsistent is the best description 12/17/2008

I've been to Champa over 10 times. The reason I stopped going is because of the inconsistency. The sushi is really good sometimes and just so so other times. The service can be really good. There is one waitress that knows us by name and if we are seated in her section then all is well. Otherwise, it's very slow and my husband who orders Thai always gets his food way earlier (sometimes 15 min) than I get my sushi. It's as if there are two separate restaurants. I love their lobster rolls and the prices are very comprable and the place is so convenient. .. and yet my husband and I often will pass it up. When they have music in there, it's too loud. We've received poor service here and there and really for the price we would simply rather go to Sushi Thai in cary. Sushi Thai can get very busy but they are always hustling to get you your food as soon as possible. There is always some wait when you order sushi at ANY restaurant because they are hand made but at Champa it is AGAIN in consistent. It's very frustrating. I know on Sat. nights at Waraji I can not be in a hurry the same with Sushi Thai. But if the food and service is excellent you mind less. When even the food is inconsistent you worry. Pros: Great signature rolls, great Thai food Cons: inconsistent in every way. more

Always looking forward to coming back 11/11/2008

We are regulars at this restaurant and every time we are very pleased with the food. As we are not the pickiest customers in terms of service and don?t like servers jumping around us too much, I have never noticed the staff being unprofessional as the other reviewer mentioned. The food, mainly sushi, is what we go there for and are always pleased with the quality and selection. The service is fast, so it is our favorite place for lunch, as we work in RTP. I would recommend it to anyone, who is not looking for a server standing at their table through the entire meal time. Yes, they are very busy in the evenings, and yes, they are very popular! Pros: Great sushi more

Atrocious customer service 9/29/2008

With so many excellent restaurants in the Triangle area I've gotten spoiled with the the ""triple threat"" restaurants: spectular food, delightful atmosphere and professional staff. In an attempt to make reservations, the male that answered the phone told us ""no reservations and expect an hour wait because we are wildly popular"". When asked if the wait time could be reduced by arriving early, he responded by saying ""I don't have time for this"" and hanging up. Given our country's current economic uncertainty and potentially less discretionary spending - I'd rather spend my money where it's appreciated. Not a champ - Champa! Cons: extremely unprofessional employee more

Went once a few months ago... 9/6/2008

It was expensive for the food we ordered and wasn't much different then Chinese take out...may have to try again, but only if I have money to spend. more

Awesome Sushi 6/26/2008

My boyfriend and I stopped by Champa two weekends ago and it was awesome! Even the the soy sauce was out of this world. And the warmed saki was very smooth and almost sweet tasting after tasting the sushi. We will be back there soon. more

Sushi...meh, Service unacceptable 2/20/2008

If it the service was a lot better, and prices a little less, there would be no reason to complain. Every visit has played out exactly the same. The waitresses/waiters all walk around aloof. Food takes too long to come out. Each time, it was at least 10 minutes before even our drink orders were taken. Its been up to 30 minutes before an appetizer/meal order was taken. For the most part, the sushi is inconsistent. It ranges from bad to pretty darn good. I have had burned tempura and crab in rolls as well. There has been instances where the texture of the fish has been off. But when it seems like the chefs want to pull it together, its actually very good. Pros: Sushi is great when the chefs are on the ball Cons: Service, Inconsistent Sushi more

great sushi 1/23/2008
