I told a friend of mine in May-08 that I'd signed with Challenger to build a pool. He told me "" I wish you'd have checked with me first "" and ""Consider yourself lucky if you're done by Christmas"". I never would have believed it, but, Christmas is right around the corner..... still NOT done.\r
\r
To be fair, it's not all bad. Keep in mind, Challenger doesn't 'build' pools - they design the pool, and contract the actual work out to 5 or 6 different specialty companies who do the construction. I will say that Challenger's specs are great - and for the most part, the contractors doing the work have done a great job. \r
\r
Earlier, 'joedejohn' stated ""The only time we hear from them is when they want a check"". I CANNOT stress to you how accurate this statement is - it's worth repeating - you will NEVER hear from them until it's time to cut a check. However, when you tell them a check is ready to go, they will be there within the hour - every time.\r
\r
The sales person will tell you that the job will be personally supervised by a Challenger employee. Do not believe this. My 'job supervisor' does NOT give out his cell number. He showed up ONE time on excavation day when the excavation company discovered the drawings were wrong. He spent his time trying to get me to agree to dig according to the drawings, not where we wanted the pool. After that, he's a ghost.... without a cell phone number. \r
\r
One strong recommendation - their contract states that payment-in-full is due BEFORE the 'finish' is sprayed. I would NOT agree to this again. Spraying the finish is not the final step. We paid-in-full 48 days ago - we're swimming, but Challenger still has not completed the outstanding items.\r
\r
Bottom Line: We'll have a great pool. But he process has taken far longer and been much more frustrating than I ever could have imagined.\r
\r
I personally would not reward them with my hard-earned dollars again, but if you have the patience and persistence, you'll probably be fine.
Pros: Good quality of construction
Cons: Unacceptable communication and customer service
