For years, Centex Mechanical has been our go-to for heating and air conditioning, and has been 5-star in our book. Recent management changes within the family passing down to the next generation have made their pricing structure go from "favorable/what you would expect" to greedy, high-margin, looking for "the cream" new customers with no regard to long-term customers who have given their business for many years. For example, during my spring checkup last week, the surge-protector outside on the compressor had gone out. Instead of just honoring the warranty and giving the usual 15% loyalty discount, we were presented with 5 options for replacing this item, ranging from about $300 to over $1400. The option conditions were ridiculous. Customers are neither stupid nor willing to fall for such tactics. The part replacement took about 20 minutes, so the "bottom" option I chose was still almost $300 even after the part warranty reduction. Their annual spring & fall checkup that was $199/year now has options up to nearly $500/year, with definitely not that much value-added to each choice. They are NOT grandfathering their loyal customers with the 15% discount, and are limiting the value of the new 10% discount. A younger generation of family has taken over and seems to think that there are enough new customers who will fall for this to offset any old-timers who leave. We may stay another year or so since they just installed another complete new system recently and there are already warranty issues, but we are definitely looking around for a company with old-fashioned values of their customers as reflected in their service and pricing. We have also found this exact same paradigm with our Bastrop-based family-owned plumbing company recently, so it will become critical for those of us on fixed income to search out the few remaining local "Mom & Pop" businesses that operate with some degree of valuing their customer base as their greatest asset. more

First time user of Centex Mechanical. Called on a Monday morning and the service technician was at the house in just 1 hour and a half. My A/C needed repair and was fixed swiftly. The technician explained what the issue was, the cost and that he had the parts on his service truck. An hour later the A/C was functioning like new. Daryl W was the technician. He was thoroughly professional, know exactly what needed fixing and a great representative for Centex. Daryl and Centex are definitely recommended. more

Both Celena and Blake were outstanding in the handling of our scheduled maintenance. Both presented themselves in a very pleasant and professional way. Blake was very helpful during the visit, recommending needed repair work and offering us the options available. Blake was also very professional in the performance of the maintenance work. Centex Mechanical Inc is the Best of the BEST. From the first time I met Gene, he was a real gentlemen and very helpful. They installed our HVAC system in 2013 and we have not had a single issue. They come out twice a year to check everything and fix what is needed. I don't plan on EVER going anywhere else. Thank you to Daryl, and David (employees) for always giving it your all. more

I really like this company they make sure that their technicians have a ton of training so when they show up they actually know what they're doing. I have tried other companies will they send out people that have no clue what they're doing the tech spends lots of time on the telephone asking for how to do their job just somebody who doesn't really know and is too busy to answer all the questions they try and sell you something and your system is still broken afterwards. Isaac was my tech he was very polite even more than little shoe covers when you came in the house and took him off when he went outside and then put him right back on when he came in the house again. He was very thorough and all of his checking of different things that we're going wrong and explained everything very clearly and answered all of my questions. I feel like they were very honest as a company with what I should expect they showed up on time and even called me before they were headed out to the house which was a huge Plus. I gave them only four stars because there is a couple of points that's I think could have been better even though they are still a great company and I would use them again and again anytime I have a problem with my AC system. Maybe I don't know enough about the industry to know if their prices are higher than other options but the cost to fix my system was $1,900. For a three-year-old system that cost almost $7,000 I find that to be a lot of money. But again I don't know if Centex is overpriced or if any company would charge me that much money to make the repair that needs to be done. I did really like the fact that they had multiple options for me to either put a bandaid on the system, do a partial repair, or do a complete repair and Ensure that everything that could break is brought back to where it needs to be with a warranty. That gives me the option to find out what will work for my situation. It just seems to me and I've all of the options that are available everything is very expensive. But maybe I'm just a penny pincher and AC repair cost more than I think it should. Jasmine was the lady who took my phone call and communicated back and forth with me about my appointment. She was polite and not that fake Walmart polite but actually a genuine politeness as if she was a happy person and glad to be at work. This is huge for me as I hate hate hate the fake thank you for coming to Walmart type greetings that companies give these days. It is huge for me when somebody greets me like I'm a real person and they are a real person it's going to share with me how they can make my day and they're happy to do so. So two thumbs up for Jasmine. Maybe I'm setting the bar too high here but it would be very nice since I'm a technical person if the person who answered the phone could be a technician of their business. But either way she got all my questions answered even if she didn't have the answer she was very quick to find the answer which means she's still a great asset. All in all I would use Centex again and definitely recommend to others. But as my nature I try and make things better anyway that I can. more

The reason we use center is because they came out and repaired our air conditioner this past summer when no one else would. I’m disabled and the heat was very difficult for me. It was on a Sunday and no one else would come. I like a company that realizes that air conditioners don’t break down on just Monday through Friday more
