I was seen for a colonoscopy that I was dreading from day one. The entire staff including the front desk, nurses at initial visit and all the nurses and doctor Makam were so fast, friendly and efficient during my procedure. The worst part as everyone says it that awful two day preparation but other than that it was a breeze! The anesthesia that they used wiped me out so I had no idea what was going on and when I woke up it was like a deep sleep but no hangover effect or groggy feeling. I really could have went to work but I thought it was going to take a day to get over. When it's time for that preventative check in 5 years I will definitely visit this group. Such a refreshing change for the usual ho hum get your copay nurses and doctors out there! more

Visited Raj Makam for evaluation of a minor rectal discharge. His office has signs all over saying that you are responsible for paying the bill. He spoke for 5 minutes while laughing and saying ""you didn't do any online research about your problem before coming here""; inappropriately loud so patients in other rooms could hear him. I can tell cause I heard him talk to patients in other room while I waited in my room; think about your information privacy here. He did not inspect the problem area; straight away asked me to schedule a colonoscopy (costs $2000 & of course I am responsible for it) because he does not do guesswork anymore since they own the colonoscopy equipment in the office. I told him that I have burping issues and his genius guesswork response was ""stop drinking milk""; how about doing some diagnosis or tests or asking me whether I even drink milk at the first place. It felt like I went to a sales/marketing office selling colonoscopy procedure rather than feeling like going to a specialist who would put in the effort to understand my problem to do some initial diagnosis during my visit. I heard similar experience from other colleague of mine. Next, he sent me $240 bill for this level of consultation experience. In all honesty, I am questioning why should I owe him so much money for 5 minutes of his time to market a higher billing procedure? By the way, I eventually ended up doing online research, took corrective measures (diet, exercise, OTC meds) and my problem is completely resolved in a matter of 3-4 weeks from that consultation visit. more

Could be better 6/20/2011

There is only one nurse I like. Regretfully I can't remember her name. I came in to see dr makam and brought a list of questions and concerns for him regarding my health. He cracked several jokes about me having a list which annoyed me instantly. Then when I asked him a specific question about a procedure he suggested, he seemed genuinely irritated with me, looked down at his computer for a few moments, and then popped his head back towards me with a kind of gritted teeth response, ""do you want the medical terminology?"" I felt uncomfortable but my husband told me to get over it and that the dr was just teying to be funny. During the endoscopy my experience went well but my follow up appointment proved very disappointing. Two nurses told me I had a condition the dr would be addressing and Dr makam tried to send me out the door before telling me about it. I had to say ""but what about the condition the nurses told me about."" he had to go back inti his computer to look it up and THEN didn't treat me for the condition. The nurses were shocked. I don't know what to think about that. Worse, I told him I couldn't afford the new meds he prescribed and asked I'd they came in generic. He told me they did not. I researched online and found out there is a generic. I also found out this medication is supposed to interfere with one of my daily medications and he did not address any of that with me. The absolute worst part was when I asked him a question regarding a possible reaction, he told me "" you are a very difficult woman"" Well buddy, I may be difficult but that's not for you to say. You are supposed to be respectful, professional. It's nice that dr makam knows how to be gentle with the eldery man Cary Mary speaks of but I don't trust this guy. I will not be seeing him again and I've told my family to see some one else too. The only thing good is he gave me a giant box of samples which I appreciate but not worth feeling mistreated. more

Wonderful Office 3/31/2009

From the moment i walked in i felt like i was being well taken care of. The staff was very friendly and the doctor i saw really seemed to know what he was doing. My experience was so good that i sent both my parents there. my mother sees dr george samuel and he has been a godsend to her. when she was in the hospital for something completely unrelated he stopped by to check on her. my father and i see dr raj makam, who is not only a good doctor but a very nice person. my father has trouble putting his thought together and it takes him awhile to get to the point and the doctor was very patient with him. admittedly sometimes we have had to wait awhile, but the doctor makes it worth the wait. we know that he's going to spend just as much time with us as the people he was seeing while we were waiting. Pros: This office has the best and friendliest staff in the world more

Worst Office 9/20/2008

During my first visit, I was extremely impressed with the nurse who checked me in but that was about it. The Dr hardly listened to me as I conveyed my medicines I was currently taking to manage my GI disorder and I know this because at the end of our conversation he suggested that I perhaps start taking a medicine, which I had already told him I had been on for three years. I didn't let this bother me at the time, but when I began to have symptoms and called the office to speak with a nurse, it took over three days for a return call and even then I was then told I should perhaps start a ""new"" medicine, but yet I was ALREADY taking this medicine. The phone system there only allows you to leave messages, which in my experience are never returned unless the patient calls and calls. I would not recommend this office to anyone who have a GI disorder since the level of attention to the patients is extremely lacking. more
