I've used Catherine's Pet Parlor several times for groomings. I've usually been generally happy. The last time I took my dog there (fyi, she is a very well behaved VERY calm dog, she isn't a squirmer at all) after I got home I noticed several nicks on her belly that were actually bleeding. I was obviously upset and called and spoke to Catherine, who offered me 1/2 off my next grooming. At the time I wasn't sure if I should go back. So after a few months I decided to give them another shot, since I have usually been pleased. Let me just say, a bloody coat, chair and floor later, I will NEVER go back there. One of her nails were cut so short she was bleeding excessively all over the place. I know sometimes nails are cut too short, but this was extreme. I'll never go back. NEVER. more

Catherine's Pet Parlor 10/14/2010

I have used Catherine's Pet Parlor for years. Let me explain to you all why I love Catherine's. I have an older dog who has Congestive Heart Failure. He unfortunately coughs and hacks due to the increased size of the heart. I went to Catherine since they had been grooming him for years and explained my fears to her. She took my dog and told me not to worry. My dog was treated like a KING. They gave him a wonderful cut. They didn't blow dry him like normal due to his heart problem. Instead of keeping him in a cage, she kept him in her office to walk around. Now that is what I call going above and beyond the call. What wonderful people to have to deal with. I would never trust anyone else. more

Butchered Hair Cut 4/26/2010

I was shocked when I picked up my dog and seen how short they chopped his hair all off. I had been growing it out and it was supposed to have just gotten trimmed. Well not only was it all choppy and short all over but terribly uneven, it looks as if a child took scissors to him. I am so upset, I took a chance by going here based on other reviews and speaking with the Manager. I even told her how I was growing his hair out and how the last place cut it too short, what the heck, can't I get a decent trim for my dog? I am so bummed out at the job they did on my dog, I guess now I have to wait another 6 months or so for it to grow out, he doesn't even look like a yorkie any more..... more

Butchered Hair Cut 4/26/2010

I was so shocked when I picked my dog up from here, only to discover they had chopped his hair off. I had been growing it out for a long time and was careful on selecting a groomer. I thought I had picked a good place to go but yet it turned out to be the worst for me. They chopped all my dogs hair off and all he was supposed to get was a trim, he doesn't even look like the same dog anymore. I really wanted this to grooming service to work out. It seems they must have had the most inexperienced, horrible groomer do my dog! All I can say is Thanks Alot for ruining my dogs hair! Pros: Friendly Cons: Didn't get good results more

Pet Parlor treats your pets with love and care 3/31/2010

Catherine and the people at the pet parlor have groomed my dogs for the past 10 years and not once have I had a problem with them. I take that back, once my dog chloe was just nicked and catherine told me when I walked thru the door. Chloe moves around alot and I know it was just an accident. She told me she would pay for the vet if chloe needed to go but it was not bad at all. Catherine also grooms shelter dogs at their foster homes for free. This woman is a saint!!!! I now live in Ann Arbor but when I get a new dog I will drive across town just to take her to catherines. You can see everything going on, no hiding behind a wall you can see how they treat other pets. I TRUST THEM!!! Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: NOT A THING more

best pet salon 9/29/2009

I am a friend of Catherines and I know how much she loves every one of her clients pets. I have been in the office and grooming area and know she loves and treats every pet as if it was her own. It is surprising how pets sense this. When I first brought my normally skittish Italian Greyhound Brandy in, she was as calm and trusting as she is with me. Pros: customers are always happy more

I took Katie to Catherine's for her first haircut over 8 years ago and Catherine still remembers how Katie reacted. When we were looking for a second dog Catherine, knowing Katie's personality, offered advise on what kind of temperament we should look for. For the love of your animal 8/12/2009

I've used Catherine's for almost 10 years now. We moved away and when we came back, she's still going strong. The staff is friendly and loving to the dogs, the prices are fair, and my little Peanut always looks fantastic when she's done. I highly recommend. Catherine's Pet Parlor cares for your pets as if they were theirs. 8/1/2009

We had a miniature poodle/mix. I had worked for a groomer as a teenager and knew the style and names of cuts. When I lived in Detroit, and when I first came to R.O. in 1989, I always asked for a Puppy Cut. I never got a puppy cut. I never told any of the groomers that I wasn't receiving what I wanted and just paid and went on my way. After trying several groomers in the Royal Oak area, I thought I would try a new business that had opened up on Woodward,(across the street from where Catherine's is now). I walked in with my poodle mix and said, "I would like a puppy cut." For the first time in five years, and as many groomers, the person I came to know as Catherine said, "This dog does not have a puppy cut." FINALLY, someone who knows what they are doing. \r That was many years ago and that doggy has passed on. We now have three rescue dogs who visited Catherine's two-three times a year and we wouldn't trade her or any of her groomers for any thing in the world, they are our family. more

Cali, The person who wrote the review about her dog getting its jaw broken NEVER said her dog was beaten. So before you write anything like that, please review the review before stating things that were never said. It was none of your business and you don't know what went on in there on that occasion. more

BROKE MY DOGS JAW 2/17/2009

When I got home from Catherine's I noticed my dog had a bloody muzzle and he was moving his mouth in a strange way...the next day I take him to the vet and I find out he has a BROKEN JAW. I call to inform Catherine and receive no apology and no explanation.\r Go to Marcy's Groom-a-Pet instead. It is obvious how much more they care about the well-being of your dog. more

Catherine's Rocks! 12/20/2008

I have taken my dogs here for as long as I have had dogs. Which is a long time. I could rave on and on about how wonderful Catherine's is. I tell everyone I know to go there.\r I have only ever had one thing happen. My dog got a nick and bled a little. But when your working with animals anything can happen. I don't blame the groomers because they do the best they can. Sometimes accidents happen. Its not their fault. It's not like they are purposely trying to hurt your dog.\r I know that my dogs got nuts when I say "Catherine's?!" They love going to get groomed there. I've tried a few other groomers just to see the competition and my dogs HATE going to other groomers. Their tails go down and I practically have to drag them into the groomers. But Not Catherine's. They love it there.\r \r BTW\r Liz- I doubt that your dog's broken jaw was the fault of Catherine's. I know for a fact that their not beating the dogs. more

Great Attention to your dog 1/25/2008

Catherine's is always a pleaasant place to take your dogs for grooming. While she is very popular in the area, each dog gets specialized attention. A dog that goes in looking like a mud ball comes out looking like it is ready for the Easter parade. The ladies in the shop that do the grooming are very attentive and I never worry about my dog's wellfare while he is there. I recommend The Pet Parlor to everyone who has a dog. Pros: accessable on Woodward, good parking in back. Cons: May take some time to get an appointment. Very popular place/ more
