The whole crew made every one feel like Family. Mike walks around to each table greeting and sharing stories about food and his family. The inside is small,about 8 tables not your typical dine-in eatery. Every one was talking and sharing stories like at a family reunion.We had all you can eat catfish and it came out of the kitchen piping hot with fries and a side of coleslaw.The home made tartar sauce was very good.We also had shrimp and a cup of gumbo,the portion is very good and full of fresh seafood. The overall experience was more than we expected. Also, we heard that his crab cakes are to die for! He only makes them every 28days. Mike was so professional in hosting my B-Day bash! He welcomed my guests with open arms and even fixed a special plate for an allergic shell fish guest. He even set out a 4-course dinner menu flyer on the table with a B-Day card. The food was incredibly outstanding! All 12 guests thoroughly enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. My neighbor has been singing the praise of Catfish Mike's and being the seafood lovers my wife and I are we had to give it a try. I do not care for fried catfish so I thought it would not be for me. BOY WAS I WRONG! Tonight they had an Osoboco special and it was FANTASTIC. The wife had fried catfish and shrimp. She enjoyed her's too, I sampled the shrimp and enjoyed it. As we were the last ones in the resteraunt the owner joined us and ate too. It was such a cozy place and I know for a fact WE WILL BE BACK! While we've been regulars since the grand opening, today's lunch inspired me to write. Mike had a few specials as he always does. Today one of them intruged me - shrimp served with homemade tortolini stuffed with proscuitto, cheese and ground almonds, served in a basil cream sauce. My mouth is watering just remembering how absolutely stunningly delicious it was! The sauce was light, not heavy at all as cream sauces can be. The shrimp were huge and succulent and the tortolini was superb! There was crusty bread, brushed with the basil/olive oil mixture to go along side. My husband had the stupendous crabcake and shrimp special. You won't find any "filler" in these crabcakes. No sir! They're served either fried or sauteed. The portions were so large it kept him busy (and away from my plate - always a bonus!) and left him full and happy. You simply can't go wrong with anything on the menu! We've never, ever had a bad meal. Mike treats every customer as if they were a member of his own family. That, coupled with the exceptional food, keeps us coming back again and again! Our Wednesday night dinner group decided to give Catfish Mike a try. We are a very picky senior cit. group and had a concern when we drove up! Well, we have no concerns now. Mike came out and talked with us about his background of 28 years as executive chef and his recipes! By the time we left an hour later we were stuffed with shrimp, catfish, crabcake, all the fixens and and delicious desert! We will be back often! BTW, every customer in the place was friendly and gave Mike 10- star rating! Pros: Awesome Food! Friendliest place in town! Cons: Can't find any! more

For the most part this is true; I don?t think the tables looked well used though. This place, on purpose or not, is a great copy of many of the hole in the wall seafood places one finds along the Louisiana coastline, fishing docks and camps. These places always have great food and service and so does Mike?s. I tried the seafood gumbo first and it was excellent plenty of seafood. This place has been advertising heavily on press web sites lately, claiming to have "the freshest seafood in Katy." So we decided to try it. We were initially stunned by the spartan dining room: one very small room in a strip center, stocked with 8 well used tables and chairs. A card table with a cash register on it fronts the open kitchen, along side a cooler of canned and bottled soft drinks. This place is for eating only, not for "dining!" But the food WAS fresh, and well cooked. We started with buffalo shrimp, which we'll skip the next time. Factory breaded baby shrimp, fried and doused with hot sauce, we didn't taste the shrimp. I ordered the only non-fried item on the menu, the pan sauteed rainbow trout with dirty rice. It was very fresh, tail on, but I suspect it was deep fried rather than pan fried. In any event, it was very moist and good. Rather than the advertised topping of lump crab, it came with three large fried shrimp. Okay, I'll take that. The rest of our group ordered either fried shrimp or fried oysters. The oysters got raves from the crowd. They were large and plump and nicely breaded. The accompanying fries were frozen of the crinkled variety if that is a detail that bothers you. It doesn't me. You can order the authentic dirty rice instead. To finish, it was agreed that we must try the fried twinkies, found on the menu under the kid selections. Probably one of few places where you can get these in the Houston area, they are a winner with kids. Six orders of 2 twinkies were made while we were there. I know, because a guy I presume to be the owner shouts all orders in to the kitchen in an unnecessarily loud tone. Some sullen guys in the galley appear to agree. The owner was otherwise eager to please. All the food is served in plastic baskets lined with wax paper, and washed down with those canned drinks, or tea served in real plastic glasses. I know that "the best catfish ever" is a strong recommendation, but it is SO true! I picked up the catfish plate to bring home to my husband for dinner one night and he was seriously impressed. My husband is the pickiest man on the planet, so that says a lot. He kept going on and on about how good it was that I had to eat some too. Fried catfish is usually SO greasy, but not this catfish. I can't really explain it, but it had all the flavor without all the grease. Just outstanding. And the hushpuppies and cole slaw were awesome too! I know it doesn't look like much from the outside. It's in a little strip center behind Popeye's off the Katy Freeway and Mason Rd. We are so glad we made the trip and tried out this new little seafood cafe. We enjoyed the lemon shrimp appetizer , the fried oysters, the buffalo popcorn shrimp and the fried chicken strips. They all were terrific. Mike makes a special effort to please all. I bet this little place grows and grows. Really great seafood is difficult to find. more
