If you love plants or birds this is the place for you 7/20/2009

The area around the hotel is beautiful but I am more of a horticulture and animal fan so the plants and the birds were the best part of my visit. Besides having your traditional parrots or Macaws to entertain guests the hotel also hosts a huge collection of waterfowl such as; wood ducks, mandarins, ring teals, widgeon, Bahama pintail, black swans and provides a habitat of lush tropical plants like unusual palm trees and things like a huge aloe bainesii. The best time of year to visit is March through June when all their ducklings hatch. The birds we met while there were all very tame so you could walk right up to see them. Pros: Tropical paradise Cons: Little-No parking for people going to the lobby to check in more

Best in PB 7/17/2008

Highly Recommended. If you want PB (Pacific Beach) it's the best there. The area's fun for family but is primarily a college-age party zone.\r \r The hotel itself is very nice by any standards, although not super-posh like some it's not run-down or lacking. They recently did a much needed full remodel of the Tower, the lobby is very nice and unique looking, the grounds are unique with a talking exhotic bird area, ducks and swans talking about, water flowing through the lobby and out to the garden, and lush tropical plants throughout. Being right on the sand (bay side of penencula) is nice too - far quieter than the ocean side.\r \r Friday night we attended their weekly full-on Luau - nicely discounted ($35) for hotel guests. That's the main event. There are boat rentals at the hotel's beach-front too, with jet-ski rentals at about 1/2 mile's walk up the boardwalk. The hotel has private bike rentals. The ocean's beach is a block away in the other direction, with lots of shops and really nice beaches. Busy area.\r \r We spent most of the weekend with our 6-year-old at the hotel pool where they have a full bar, Calipso band, free archade for the kids, and luxury cabana lounge chairs. The hotel resturant & cafe is very nice, just a tad pricy for dinner but the quality's there too.\r \r The hotel usually has a wedding on Saturday night, all roped off on the lawn in front of the cafe. Pros: Great escape from the PB madhouse, great pool, steps to relaxing on sand, luxurious grounds and nice big rooms with newly remodeled stuff. Cons: free arcade has some broken machines and in need of remodel. more

Really Enjoyable spot to be when Vacationing in SD 6/24/2008

I have stayed here with family before when visiting my brother in the oh-so-up-and-coming Pacific Beach and the hotel offers a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the beach streets. There is a nice cafe on the premises and its right on the sand over-looking the lake which leads to Sea World and their famous fireworks show. It is a stunning, tranquil spot to stay when surveying the San Diego area, and it is close to just about everything that makes this city great- a bevy of shops, restaurants and attractions and of course- the beach! Pros: Tranquil San Diego Esape more
