We arrived on a Wednesday it was peaceful & quiet part of town. Room was ready & well equipped with microwave, kitchenette, Jacuzzi tub & dishes. That way you can walk down to the store & prepare meals instead of having to eat out the entire time you're there. We stayed 3 nights & had no complaints. more

I have stayed at the Catalina Beach House many times through the past several years and I look forward to each trip. I recommend the top suite. It is really affordable and is like having your own place in Catalina. A gorgeous view, private balcony, kitchen and not to mention the BBQ and the porch swing. Always friendly people. I love going back and always recommend to friends. more

My husband and I spent the weekend on Catalina and stayed at this charming, quaint hotel. We found our room small, but very clean and cozy. It is close to everything. Even though we had not had much exercise in previous weeks and are in our 60's, the walk up the hill was not at all difficult. This was our first visit to the island, and the owners were friendly and helpful. We are already planning a trip back in January. There was coffee in the lobby. Our room had a refrigerator and a microwave - perfect for warming up leftover food from the wonderful Italian restaurant down the hill. The bed was very comfortable, and It was wonderful to sleep with an open window above our heads breathing in the amazing fresh air. We both had the best night's sleep we have had in a long time. I had shopped some on the internet for other hotels on the island. The Catalina Beach House was the best price and well worth it. I highly recommend it. more

I have no idea what the other reveiws say about this place, but the walk up the hill was not bad at all. (AND I SMOKE). \r Let me begin this reveiw with the hospitatliy my wife and 2 year old son had received as soon as we got their. IT WAS AMAZING :)\r The front desk did not treat us like a dollar sign if you know what I mean. The rooms were elegant and up to date in comparision to the others (and we stayed at most of the hotels on the island). The prices were totally affordable, but were not true to what we encountared, meaning if you were to book a vacation, you better book it here fast before they realize that this is not just an avarege hotel, but a 5 star hotel, and they increase the price.... more

This was the perfect small hotel one block up the hill from the town of Avalon, with a sunbathing deck andan ocean view, tables, and chairs, even a barbecue on the first level. The staff was super-friendly and quick to respond, and the rooms were clean and comfy, including a kitchenette. I would definitely stay again with friends, my boyfriend, or even my mom, and will recommend it to others. more

We stayed at this hotel because it is closer to Casino Point (although up a relatively steep hill) and was inexpensive. My husband and I are avid scuba divers that needed a nice place to stay and a good nights sleep. The whole hotel has been newly renovated/remodeled with fresh paint, carpet, fixtures, and bedding. On the top floor they have higher-end, larger family style rooms, but we opted for the queen sized bed economy room which are cozy and come with fridge, microwave, coffee maker, TV/Cable, private Bathroom/shower, Air conditioner & Heater. The roll of Paper Towels is a nice added touch. How many times have you needed a napkin/paper towel and instead all you have are towels? Chris, who provided us our helpful and friendly hotel service, was extremely accommodating to us and was able to accommodate us with our scuba equipment; allowing us to use their hose to clean our equipment and bring us to and from Casino point using their very cool ""Pimped Out"" 2-3 person seat motorized vehicle. There ""sister"" hotel called the Hermosa, which we have also stayed at, does cater more to scuba divers because of outdoor showers and places to store your equipment outside your room, but we wanted to try something different and a little closer to Casino Point. more

My best friend and I stayed here for four days in January 2013 and we were floored by how perfect our room was. Perhaps we got a remodeled one? Nonetheless, we went with the standard room which has two beds and the bathroom with the big tub. (We didn't use the tub but it makes for a very nice, roomy shower.) Our room had hardwood floors, wainscoting, a well-stocked mini kitchen with nice glass door cabinets, a big stainless steel sink and lovely tile. Our bedding was comfy and modern. The bathroom was gorgeous! Beautiful tile and a neat-o ""waterfall"" faucet fixture in the sink. The overall property is really awesome too...we just stepped out the door to the patio and a few more steps took us to an amazing view of the ocean. more

We have stayed at both the Beach House and the Hotel. Each was a great time. We enjoyed the bigger rooms of the beach house for our anniversary. it 's a bit of a hill, but worth every step. The deal was fantastic and was always enjoy seeing Scotty and the crew. Go explore this paradise… more

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend getaway and we loved it! The service was great, the room was comfortable, and we can't wait to go back. We did not have any problems with the staff or room, and you can't go wrong with the location, as we were walking distance from everything in town. The weekend was very affordable as well. more

if your looking for luxury accommodations this is not for you. If your an adventurer, like it simple, don't mind walking up a hill to get to the hotel, & like inexpensive rooms, then this is the place for you. I always stay here when i visit Avalon because I don't spend much time in my hotel room when i'm there anyways except to sleep & shower. You can do both of those things comfortably. Its quiet, the staff is helpful/super nice, its quant, clean, & affordable. more

My family and I recently visited “Catalina Beach House”, we spent 5 nights in rooms 10 and 11, they were located down a flight of stairs in the back of the building. It was what we expected, an older place with small rooms, small bathrooms and little kitchen areas with Clean plates, cups and silverware. TV was very nice, flat screen, didn't watch it much but it was nice. The patio areas were nice, grill was a little to “used” for my liking but worked. The Wifi, it was okay for most of the time, it worked best in the patio areas, from our rooms it was sketchy at best, no big deal we weren’t there to surf the internet but checking mail was important. I have an iPhone and hopping on the net with ATT was fast. Night time was quiet.\r \r The hill wasn’t to bad, it will get your heart rate up for 30 seconds but it’s really a short walk.\r \r The staff was great! They picked us up at the dock when we arrived and dropped us off for departure. We needed some extra towels and pillows after normal hours, called the # and within minutes we had what we were after. The maids were usually around if we needed anything. more

Stayed here a few weeks ago and it was great! \r \r Had to write a review to talk about this ""hill"". The whole island is a hill, except for the main street...THIS ISN'T THAT BAD PEOPLE. From the bottom up, it's at most a 2 minute walk up the hill. Just when you think it's ""far"", it pops up and is right there.\r \r I really like this little hotel. Loved being able to store my luggage at the Hermosa Hotel after check out and the room was very clean! The bed was hard/sturdy, which my guy and I loved, best sleep ever! Nice to have a microwave and a tv, which we didn't use, but nice to have! And although it seems minor, LOVED that there was a fan in the bathroom! I feel like the majority of the hotels now don't have fans!\r \r Anway, long story short...great place, great service, can't wait to visit again. Signs in the lobby were hilarious. Loved their little patio area. On Tuesday, just sat up there and watched the cruise ship leave and the sun set....it was lovely, relaxing and peaceful. \r \r Yes, did use a Living Social deal and more than worth it! What a great deal to include the boat ride, tickets to the museum and a bike ride. more

My husband and I also stayed here as part of the Groupon 2-night stay with boat passes and museum tickets. The groupon was originally for the Hermosa cottages but when I made my reservations Mindy told me that the cottages were booked. She offered to upgrade me to the Catalina Beach House for just $25.00/night. I was so happy I took the upgrade.\r \r The Staff's excellent Customer Service started the moment I made the reservation and was consistent until the moment my husband and I left the island. Even when their boat unexpectedly decided to shut down before the groupons were to expire, Mindy and her staff made good by all of us by offering SEVERAL options including extending the end date for the Groupon. Since my husband and I were celebrating our 1 year anniversary we opted for the upgrade to the Catalina express at no extra charge. They also offered an entertainment package for two for $79 which included, a two hour bike rental for two, 2 10-minute chair massages (which were AMAZING), 2 admissions to the botanical gardens, and 2 tickets for the ghost tour. By our calculations that is a value of over $125.00 for just $79 AND they make all the reservations for you!\r \r Mindy and her staff put us in one of the nicest suites they had. It came with a kitchenette, whirlpool tub, comfy bed and satellite TV. To save money, my husband and I went shopping at Vons (which is just a few streets over and down the street from the Hermosa Cottages) and get stuff for breakfast. It was so nice sitting on the deck, enjoying breakfast while watching the boats on the bay!\r \r As Sophia L. stated in her review, the hill is really not that bad, even after a few ""Buffalo Milk""s it was good exercise! Plus you never really have to carry your luggage up the hill because the hotel offer complimentary transportation up the hill. Personally, I felt like more of a local walking up the hill. As you will see, many of the locals walk everywhere and most of the houses are in the hills. more

We had a pleasant 2 night stay. We arrived in Avalon and checked in at the sister hotel and were told that our room wasn't ready yet but we could leave our bags there and they would call us once the room was ready. So we walked around and and had lunch and then we were taken up to our room. more

I would definitely stay here again! Mindy and her staff made my first trip to Catalina a memorable and all too enjoyable one! more
