Best

Being from Italy, I have a hard time finding Italian food in America that I really like. My husband and I love to go to Casa D'angelo. The food is fantastic at a resonable price...

Worst

I have given this restaurant my usually three attempts before I write a review. The first time it failed to impress me, the flavors were just not there, the second time the pasta ...

The Boss and I went to Italy a couple of years ago for seventeen wonderful days and nights and we ate and drank our way from Sorrento to Venice. And when we want to spoil ourselves with a dinner that rivals Italy, we go to Casa D'Angelo.\r \r And what a dinner we had last night . . . \r \r We started with an Appetizer Special, Burratta with grilled vegetables. Burratta is a cheese, similar to Bufala Mozzarella, except it is creamier and a little moister. A little arugula and a nice balsamic reduction to finish it off. Outstanding!\r \r The Boss had the Grilled Shrimp (off the menu). The Shrimp were prepared perfectly. I had one of the specials, Beef Short Ribs braised in Brunello with Papardelle. Off the charts! On the side, we shared a side (off the menu) of warm Cannellini beans with tomato, roasted garlic and a drizzle of olive oil.\r \r We finished with espresso and an Apple Torte with Cinnamon Ice Cream. Perfect ending to a perfect meal.\r \r The wine list can be a little intimidating but there are some fairly priced wines (We had an Amarone - Zenato Ripassa 2006 for $55). Try their website before you go and do a little research if you want to have a nice wine for a reasonable price.\r \r Some folks complain about the prices at Casa D'Angelo but then they will go to a high end steak house and pay over the top for a steak and a Cab. Casa D is a high end Italian restaurant with outstanding service and outstanding food, presented perfectly.\r \r One secret - Make a reservation and ask to sit in one of the Wine Rooms. Gets you into an area that is a little quieter and off 'Main Street' that can get a little busy when the place is crowded. more

Food is ok. Grilled scallops were to smokey, risotto was sub par. Overall I would say horrible value. Have had better food better values at other local restaurants in this category (fine Italian dining) more

I realize not everyone has travelled to Italy or comes from an Italian background, so there are many different ideas of what constitutes great Italian food. In my opinion, great Italian food is about great ingreients and simple preparation. That is not what you find at many American Italian style restaurants and what is many come to believe is good Italian food. Casa D'Angelo is the real deal. A master chef from Italiy using only the finest ingredents in simple but outstanding presentations. I've met some folks who don't like Casa D'Angelo, they don't appreciate the quality and simplicity of the good, or they think it's too expensive. Others think good Italian food has to be concocted with fourteen different ingredients like fancy fusion food, or loaded with heavy sauces like Olive Garden. You will not find that at Casa D'Angelo, only the real deal. more

The best Italian restaurant 2/28/2009

This the best Italian restaurant around! The food is great! The veal chop with gorgonzola is to die for. Everytime I go there with my family I feel like I'm home! Pros: Service, food and ambience more

ZAGATS NEEDS TO UPDATE THEIR SURVEY!! THIS PLACE IS BELOW PAR!! 7/18/2008

I have given this restaurant my usually three attempts before I write a review. The first time it failed to impress me, the flavors were just not there, the second time the pasta was actually quite tasty, which gave me hope that the Zagat reviewer actually ate here before giving this restaurant its rating, BUT this last visit, the food just lacked ANY flavor. We ordered the prawn appetizer, and having had it at Cafe Martorano's, prepared in a succulent sauce with a mouthwatering tender flavor, I hoped Casa D'Angelo would fare as well, but the prawn was dry, flavorless, with no moisture whatsoever, the pancetta dry and burned, and the dish had no sauce or anything to add any moisture or flavor to it. I gave my prawn to my husband it was that bad..I imagined Gordon Ramsey calling it ""****"". Then came my main course, the puttenesca pasta. Perhaps they had a new cook in the kitchen, because that pasta was raw, we sent it back and left hungry. Service was ok, waited about 10 minutes for my check with nothing on the table though... Pros: It is a decent looking restaurant, and service was average. Cons: the FOOD, the entire reason to eat out... more

Never Again! Very Disappointing 12/31/2007

Oh my, do i feel horribly taken after eating (barely) at this well known establishment. I ordered the twin lobster tail special and the risotto from the menu to split with dining partner. The risotto was gluey and scallops in it were very tough..it had no flavor in spite of claiming to have truffle oil in it. The lobster tails were poached by virtue of sitting in water to keep them warm...they had NO flavor--ONLY a terrible tangy flavor and mushy texture from sitting..served over a non-descript pasta with a couple of cherry tomatoes..that dish alone was $72!! Yes, that's right...the whole meal was without doubt the worst I have ever had and one of the costliest. Had only one glass of wine and the check with tip was over 150! NEVER AGAIN. EVER. WHAT A RIP-OFF. Pros: italian wait staff attentive for the most part Cons: too many to list more

An overpirced Olive Garden 9/27/2007

The food at the Olive Garden is much better and one fourth the price. So not worth the time and the food tastes like Lean Cuisine. The strip mall ambience is horrible, too. Cons: So overpriced! Ridiculous! more

Best Italian in Fort Lauderdale, Superior Service, Great Food! 9/17/2006

This is one of the best Italian places in South Florida. Its very upscale, super wine list, decor is nice, and a big open kitchen. The service is always great, waiters are very helpful and very knowledgable. They have about 10-20 specials every night, and if you dont see what you're looking for they will make it for you. Angelo the owner works here in the kitchen and is super nice, always comes around and greets everyone. Make sure you call ahead because they get very busy, especially on weekends. more

Excellent wine list, great italian, great service, italian spoken everywhere by the employees. 9/15/2006

We had dinner friday night, made rez. at 7, were promptly seated. The service was great, excellent wine selection (the wine menu is almost overwhelming). The portions are large so I would avoid any appetizers or salads. I had the veal special, with mushrooms and wine reduction sauce, and it was like being a caveman. The piece of meat was huge, and tasted incredible. She had sausage, spaghetti, brocolli rabe, spinach. Tasted great also. Most of the staff was italian, which always makes me feel more comfortable. I don't like Chinese people serving me Mexican food. Not that expensive, our 2 dishes + 1 bottle of wine came to $99. Highly recommended in every way. Pros: Wine List, Service, Real Italian food. Cons: not cheap, but not too expensive. more

My first visit was great and I had every intention of becoming a regular. On my second visit I made a reservation, showed up and was not seated an hour later. Needless to say we left without eating and have not been back since. more
