A real gem in the Yakima Valley 9/30/2010

You'll think you're in an intimate Seattle restaurant when you walk into The Carousel. It's on historic Front Street but it's a bit hard to find, as it is tucked back off the street and their sign is not prominent. It has a nice, quiet atmosphere, the service is personal and non-pretentious, and the food is excellent. I love their Spinach Salad Flambe (made at your table) and my husband's favorite is the Porto Filet (not shown on the menu, but always available as a special). And if you get appetizers, the stuffed mushrooms are delectable. more

Delicious! 5/6/2009

Great place to eat. Friendly service and good food. I didn't know what to order, but the chef and waiter were very helpful to find a dish I would like. I highly recommend! Pros: Service, Entree, Atmosphere Cons: Next to the county jail more

Best dining experience in Yakima 2/15/2008

On Valentine evening my husband and I had the most wonderful meal since moving to Yakima last summer. For starters we had escargot (my husband thought they were the best he had ever eaten)and I had the crab cakes which were a perfect proportion and so good. He had the lamb and I had garlic prawns. Both meals were simple and very good. Prepared to perfection. The raspberry creme brule and the parfait with wild cherries in brandy were beyond words - a perfect ending to the meal. Yakima is lucky to have a restaurant of this caliber. The service was outstanding and the atmosphere in the restaurant was very relaxing . We have tried many restaurants since moving here and this has to be #1 for having it all. We will definitely recommend it and plan on eating there again. The price is worth the experience especially for a special evening out. Pros: Food, drinks, wait staff more

intimate and relaxed 2/14/2008

this restraunt was tasteful in decor had a very relaxed and intimate atmosphere, we enjoyed a well rounded meal unfortunately when we were there the oven broke and dinner took almost 2 hours but the service and people made up for it, as far as the meal goes i had a delicious pork tenderloin stuffed with an apricot relish and my husband had the best honey mustard ginger glazed salmon ever, the food, the people it was a wodnerful meal, i definetly suggest trying it.. oh be prepared to shell out some cash dinner alone was about 108.00 for us.. Pros: service, the atmosphere, large wine selection Cons: the oven broke, a bit costly, the wait to get a table more

A family french restaurant 11/13/2007

I eat at the Carousel restaurant almost every week; I love it. It has a cute little bar that reminds me of intimate bars in New York city restaurants. My friends and I love to meet there. My favorite things are the escargots, the beef bourguinonne, and the steaks. Oh and the chocolate mousse. They also make great cosmopolitans and martinis! It is a totally friendly place to eat and everyone there is like family... definetely one of the best restaurants in Yakima. Pros: very good food; comfortable place to meet friends more

I eat out frequently, have friends in the restaurant business, have myself worked in the food service industry in many capacities, and was a server in upscale restaurant in Seattle. I have eaten in restaurants all over the world and my experience last night at Carousel was easily THE WORST dining experience I have ever had. Do not support this restaurant. The owner of this restaurant knows nothing about running a restaurant. We personally made a reservation earlier in the evening and returned (on time). We were informed a table was not yet ready when we arrived and were happy to sit at the bar for a glass of champagne before dinner. But we ended up waiting over an hour and a half to be seated, all the while being reassured that a table was coming available in a few minutes. For the last 20 minutes of our wait, we sat completely ignored at the bar, could see 3 empty tables in the small dining room, and had to ask to be seated at one of them. They cleared and set the table after seating us, all the while treating us like we were being rude. I hated my restaurant experience last night not because of the long wait, but because of the terrible way we were treated after the service turned bad and we started asking to be seated at our table, then having to ask for some bread (that arrived burnt and cold), then asking for napkins, then asking for silverware (after our hot plates sat in front of us). It was AWFUL. We are seasoned restaurant-goers and I am always polite and patient. I understand that the timing in restaurants is difficult, but the owner of this restaurant dealt with his mistake in an extremely unprofessional and rude manner. This was EASILY THE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. The wait staff was stretched and scrambling to keep it together and the owner was no where to be seen. It was horrendous. I would NEVER EVER recommend any friend of mind to this restaurant. Please BEWARE. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE for all 4 in our party Pros: the service/management outweighs the pros more

Authentic French in Yakima 5/10/2006

Tucked away just off of Front Street, Carousel serves up authenic French bistro fare at a very reasonable price. We started with the garlicky escargot served in a traditional bowl. Use your bread to sop up the juicy goodness. For our entrees we tried the Coq au Vin and the Rabbit. Both covered in an appropriate sauce and seved with mixed vegetables. Preperation and presentation were simple but very good. The wine list features local favorites as well as selections from France. Sadly it was 8:30pm on a Saturday, and we were the only couple in there. Carousel needs local support, if it's going to make it. Pros: Affordable, Traditional Cons: Hard to find more
