Editorial review from Citysearch 8/9/2012

I have shopped at Carolina thrift many times, there is a cashier that is very rude there however i have never had any other issues other then waiting on her to ring up the items i would recommend this store to anyone that enjoys the thrift shops more

Rude Employees all day! 12/14/2011

I totally agree that the employees are rude. They couldn't care less about the customers. They do not speak, acknowledge, or even look at the customers and they just absolutely REFUSE to help anyone. There was one woman in there, I don't know her name, she was a tall, thin, white, woman that was nice. I do not think she is there any longer. She was polite and friendly and actually a nice person. I haven't seen her in a while so she probably left. Who could blame her? The rest of the people that work there are horrible. The manager is the worst of them all. They completely hate their jobs and they hate themselves. They are worthless and insulting. If this place wasn't so damned cheap, I wouldn't go there at all. more

My favorite thrift store! 7/9/2011

This is by far my favorite second hand store! Each thrift store has it's benefits. This store is HUGE and I can always find something there. It's true some things are overpriced here, but I have seen that at EVERY thrift store I go to. What no one mentions is that many things are under priced too. They also run sales where items are 25-75% off what items are already ticketed! I LOVE this store. It is part of my weekly routine along with going to the grocery store. If you are snobby about staff or appearance than I doubt you have had much experience thrift shopping and by all means spend way too much money and go shop at a mall. On a side note what is the deal with all the people mentioning employees' race? Seriously how often does someone say ""that white clerk wasn't nice to me""? Think about it - some of you are sounding racist. more

Thrift Shopping 6/2/2009

People need to understand this is a THRIFT shop. Where can you go get a ""Le Suite"" or ""Jones of New York"" suit (women) ...or Ralph Lauren polos (kids) for less then $10. My mom even bought a St. John's knit suit with no picks for $10. This is not Walmart nor Target. If you a real shopper you will run in fight the crowd, know how to work the 50% off days and get out. The deals I find are the best in town. For $30 - $40 I can get a trash bag of clothes. The deals are so great it cost more to have a ladies suit dry cleaned then it cost to buy it at Carolina Thrift. I am not looking to live there or have a sales associate hold my hand. Deals!! Deals! Now there are times when I do not find what I am looking for. I know the racks I need to search and if it is an off day...... I am out in 15 minutes. I drive 40 minutes just to see what I can find. Now if you need a discount consignment shop that is extra clean and with loving associates go top the ""Snob Shop"". This is a great place...but you pay for all the extras. Pros: Best consignment shop in the Triad more

Rude employees, and ignorant as well. 3/9/2009

The employees at this store are ignorant and rude. Today I went in there, and as I was checking out, an Asian man came into the store and nicely requested some help from the blonde woman who was checking out my items. She responded rudely to him, hollering over the heads of several people. He asked if he could check out a kitchen stove that was in the front of the store, outside near the entrance. Both of the women running the registers, the African American woman and the bleached blonde woman, yelled out at the man ""Can't check them stoves!! We ain't got nowhere to plug them in!"" The man just stood there with a puzzled expression on his face... I said to him, ""I wouldn't buy it, if I couldn't check it out first & see if it works."" The woman running the register gave me an evil look and said ""Hey. We don't accept them stoves. People just drops em off, and we don't accept em. And the reason we don't accept em is we can't check em out."" O.K. Fair enough... when I went outside, I looked at the stove, and it had a price of $29.00 written on it. If they don't accept them, how are they selling them? Very curious. And if they don't accept them, why not just put it out by the dumpster or let the man who needs the stove have it? Ridiculous. I said as much to the woman, and she proceeded to badmouth me and mutter about how stupid I was. I guess she doesn't see the disconnect here... you either accept the stove or you don't. You can't say you don't accept it, and then put a price tag on it... many of the prices here are too high. The policies change too... sometimes they will charge half-price for the items in the linen bins in the back of the store on half price days, and sometimes they will charge full price. The bathrooms are absolutely disreputable. There's a giant gap in the door where the little urchins running all over the store can come in and look at you when you're using the bathroom. Employees are exceedingly rude. Every one if them is appallingly rude. Pros: Sometimes interesting ethnic items in bins in back; I found a sari, nice Indian bag, etc. Cons: Rude employees, dark dingy room, high prices, overflowing stinking dumpster, parts of games or toys missing & still priced high, nasty bathroom, and oh yes...rude employees. more

Rude Employee's and Management 10/28/2008

I was in the Carolina Thrift today during my lunch hour and shopped for about 45 minutes, when it was time to check-out i walked up to the register and there was no one at any of them. There was an older black lady working in the middle of the register area. I sat my items down at the first register and waited, the black lady working in the middle area then proceeded to go to another register and stare off into space. I looked over at her and aksed is that where you are working...she replied yes ma'am. I responded to her that it would have been nice if she would have told me that instead of just letting me stand there. I picked up my items and placed them on her check-out desk and slamned down my hangers that ""I had to take off myself"" - it is posted in the store to remove your own hangers! The black lady advised me not to be slamming stuff, i told her i wasn't trying to slam the hangers and that she should think about finding another job! She then got an attitdue with me advising me that i need to check my attitude, i told her she need to shut up and check me out! She had rang up one of the items i was purchasing and stated that she was not going to check me out...i said well you better get someon over here to do it! She then started hollaring for another staff to help me. She came over and checked me out. In the middle of being check-out a heavy set woman came up and asked what the problem was. i told her she needed to fire her rude staff since she advised me she was the ofc manger. She was very rude to me and asked me to leave the store i advised her that i would leave when my friend got done checking out. She then got on the phone like she was going to call the cops and when she was speaking to the cops she said no she is white! CATHY-book keeper so called 'MANAGER"" came to the door after i left and advised me that 'SHE GETS OFF WORK AT 4pm""!! What a freakin' idiot! These 2 staff need to find another job. These 2 employee's CATHY & HELEN need to another job! Pros: Got an UGLY - 80's costume - which is why i was there in the first place Cons: Employee's - HELEN & CATHY need to find new jobs! more

Rude Staff 2/15/2008

when i went to the carolina thrift a few weeks ago, i brought a client in with me who does volunteer work there...when i went in the cashier said hey and knew exactly what we were there for but completely ignored us. So we walked around for a few minutes and i saw some toys that i wanted to get my little girl...well, i got up to the cashier and an it was an African American lady running the register...now don't get me wrong, i have no problems with African Americans at all, but it just burned me up how she acted like i wasn't even standing there and told the African American woman behind me to come up to the register, that she was next in line...I do not like that store, period!...and i will not be back! Cons: Not enough parking, expensive merchandise more

Better Customer Service and Pricing Needed 2/8/2008

I have been to Carolina Thrift in High Point numerous times, and every time I am amazed as to why used products cost just as much as new ones. For example, a shirt that contains any brand names tag will be priced at roughly $12.99, how ridiculous. I can to any store and get a brand new shirt for that, even at the gap. What I find the most ludicrous is when something is not priced, and you ask, ""How much is this""? You get a quick rude, non smiling answer: ""If it is not priced, I can not price it, only the manager can and she/he will be in next Tuesday"". This has happened to me 5 times. There should be someone at the store, daily, that can price a piece of merchandise. Of course, if there is a price on it, it is too high. Sincerely, I'd rather be at Goodwill. more

Greatest bargains in the triad 1/5/2008

I am happy to say Diania Grifith is no longer employed with the company and things are back to normal. Also the management at the new store is very kind it is my favorite store the new manager James who is rather young is one of the kindest most profesional managers i have ever seen. The changes he made to the store make it very desirable to shop there.I know the owner and when he saw the reviews that were written hear he took the intrest in fixing and preserving this for our loyal patrons. Help carolina thrift in its quest to provide the comunity with the best bargains in the triad. Pros: lots of great deals Cons: none now that Diana is gone more

Terrible management 7/30/2007

Dianna is a terrible manager, treats her employees very bad. She fires good people cuz she doesnt like them , however keeps employees who supply her illegal substances. People shouldnt donate to the Vietnam Veterans of America, many things they throw away, refuse to give to agencys that help needy people. They make alot of money making people think it helps the vets, it doesnt! The main office is Bargain Thrift in Roswell, Ga, where the owner, John, has been in rehab quite a few times for crack/coke. I would suggest everyone boycott carolina thrift and go to a company like goodwill industries where the proceeds actually go to help the needy. Goodwill's prices are more in line as Carolina Thrist just wants as much money as they can get. Most every penny you spend at Carolina Thrift pays for salarys including more substances in Dianna's body, not to mention the owner. Dianna told a worker that the owner, John, came into the GSO location, took $90 from the register to buy illegal substances. Is that the type company you want to keep in business? Just FYI, they put price stickers over 'defective' stickers on cartons, fooling the public and then refuse to give a refund, only a store credit. This is plain fraud, which has been reported to the NC Atty Generals Office. They have also been reported to the NC Labor Dept and the Federal INS as they employee so many non americans. There will soon be an article in the newspaper telling about all the underhand things this company does. If the general public wants to show they will not support a company like this, its really very simple, REFUSE to shop at their stores, go to other thrift stores who have high quality merchandise, who care about the community, treat their employees good and most of all, treat the customer as a human being. Money is too tight to allow a company like Carolina Thrift to rip off people as they have for so many years. BOYCOTT CAROLINA THRIFT...MAKE THEM SHUT DOWN OR CLEAN UP THEIR ACT. Pros: cheap merchandise but not good quality Cons: managers are druggies more

Bring your own fan, companys air conditioning is broke 4/3/2007

nice selection fair prices, store air quality is very poor, stuffy. Bring your own fan, their AC is broke or has dirty air filters. Do not bring anyone here that has breathing problems. Pros: can save $ here Cons: Xtreme heat in this store,do not bring breathing impaired people here more

In total agreement with the 1st review 3/28/2006

I agree with EVERYTHING the first review said. Example: I know no one has to lend a helping hand but in good human nature people do. My mom & I were shopping for baby items. I was 6 months pregnant. They were closing,we were leaving. Mom accidentally locked the keys in the car. Middle of the winter, probably 25- 32 degress outside, strong wind gusts. It was obvious that I was pregnant and they just stood at the door watching from the warm inside while we tried to get in the car. They didn't leave, just watched. We were outside in the cold for about an 1 & 1/2 hour before my grandpa finally showed up to help us out. These people are so cruel, you'd think it was a job requirement to act this way. They yell Bathroom key about every 5-10 minutes.Makes you cringe. Some deals are ok.Employees are foul. Pros: bargains, wide variety Cons: rude employees, tightly spaced more

Carolina Thrift High Point Location Staff RUDE!!! 2/24/2006

This store has its up & downs, as with its pricing. Sundays are the best days to go with the certain color tags being 75% off otherwise, its like NEW prices for USED stuff. Now they putting white & green tags on almost everything, The staff at high point is to be desired. Requirement for a job at this location, A rotten attitude torward customers and a healthy set of lungs. They yell & scream the whole time you are in this place. ( Hey invest in an intercom people) If you are a nervous person dont shop here. My 3 year old cries when she goes there cause of the screaming & yelling ( bathroom key & we closing in 45 mins, 30 mins 15 mins etc). We actually had an employee tell us they was closing in 15 mins) THEGREENSBORO STORE IS BETTER NICE WORKERS Pros: 75% OFF SUNDAYS, % OFF DAILY Cons: EMPLOYEES ATTITUDES, YELLING, HIGH PRICES more
