Captain Jack's

Honestly I feel one star is too many. I've lived in Prior Lake for over 65 years. This place has been through many owners since the first ones (Simpkins). It has been fabulous most times and absolutely horrible others. I took some friends to eat there a month ago and was saddened to realize it had not improved. It took forever to be seated and once we were...that was it. We waited and finally I went to the bar to get some drinks. The staff was rude and the food we finally did receive was cold. Drunks on the deck yelling obscenities...not a good environment for family outings. I can't imagine anyone wanting to live near there. It's no wonder the house next door has not sold to anyone. The food was cold and greasy. The customer service was nonexistent, the help was rude and as far as being part of their future clientele...not a chance. Save your money...you'll get better food anywhere else and you will not be an annoyance to the staff. more

This is truly one of the hidden gems here in the southern suburbs. You would never know it's here unless you have a boat on Prior Lake. It's off the main drag right on Prior Lake! The views are fantastic. When you go there be sure to sit in the dining room not the bar area. I had great service while I was there and the food was really good too. I'll certainly be going back. more

A few friends and I stopped by for drinks and dinner. We had a great time. I thought the food was good. I never noticed the service, which is what you want. They brought the food on time, no problems and got out of our way :) more

I've never had a bad experience there. True if you sit on the lower patio service is slower, but just relax you're 10 feet from the lake lapping at the shore. Personally I think its a pretty relaxed vibe there. Foods good, beers cheap and the wing are excellent. Sit back and enjoy! more

I don't know what you all are complaining about. Captain Jack's is one of my top five favorite restaurants. Drinks are cheap, food is good, the view of the lake well it doesn't get any better than that. I' Not saying any of you are making it up but I've never had any problems there. more

I went here with a few of my extended family members. There we 8 of us so we called ahead to make sure we didn't need a reservation. We didn't.\r \r So we show up and the place is packed. They said a 25 minute wait but it was only about 10 or 15 which was nice. \r \r We get seated at 2 tables put together that were not really meant for 8 people, it was still dirty and wet. We ended up moving to a nearby table because it looked bigger. That was also wet and dirty. \r \r I'm not sure what everyone else but I ordered a Captain Chicken WITHOUT ranch dressing and an order of Mozzarella Sticks for the table. \r \r The Mozzarella Sticks come out almost 25 minutes later. Then the food comes about 45 minutes after that. They get my order wrong, they put ranch dressing on it like I specifically told them not to. I was so hungry at that point that I wasn't willing to wait another 70 minutes for another sandwich so I sucked it up and ate it. \r \r Despite the fact that I hate ranch dressing it was still OK. If it was OK with something I don't like on it, it should be twice as good if you drop that item.\r \r 2 tips if you choose to come here: \r \r 1. Do NOT come here with more than 3 people, otherwise they will mess up your order.\r \r 2. If you come here, be prepared to have a 2 to 3 hour lunch/dinner. more

I went to Capt Jacks to celebrate a friend's birthday. I won't go back. The service was terrible and the bar tender was very rude. He acted like taking our drink order and serving the drinks was inconvenient for him. When I asked for drink (after a long wait) he told me very rudely to 'relax' and 'you're not the only person in the bar you know.' The bar wasn't very busy and he seemed really angry about something. We also ordered food and it was OK at best, nothing special and pretty pricey. I won't be back. more

Although the atmosphere can be fun, the service is usually horrible, the supervisor sees everything as a complete inconvenience to her and it is dirty. There are spiders EVERYWHERE. It has great potential, but seems as though it is never cleaned or sprayed for bugs. I can no go to Captain Jacks because of how unsanitary it is. more

We have gone there plenty of times and made it our regular stop when on Prior Lake. We seem to enjoy the food, atmosphere and the service has always been good. But just recently, we heard from friends and friends of freinds who have gotten sick from eating there. A couple servers quit due to how dirty it was. I am in question now as to ever eat there again. What is going on? Don't they have inspections? We would hate to lose one of our favorite places on the water?!! more

My husband and I took friends from out of town out to eat for one of their birthdays. We got there at 5:30 but were not even approached by a hostess until close to 6. We then proceeded to be sat at a filthy table, and ordered immediately. Our appetizers never came, our drinks came 45 mins later and our food came almost two hours later (we all ordered burgers and fries). When the food came, my husband didn't even get his french fries and I had to wait another 15 mins for my food. When we asked to speak to a manager, we actually had to go to the bar to speak to one because he refused to come to our table. At that time he refused to apologize and we listened to him scream at his server (who had too many tables and really did an amazing job given the circumstances). The people next to us were also charged $80 for two drinks and food they never received. I've never written a review before but I had to get the word out about what a terrible place this has become. Completely ruined our night. (Oh, the bill came in seconds) Pros: After they forget to serve you, your bill will come fast. Cons: terrible service, management, don't expect to eat. more

Went to lunch with clients and food was not good. Clients were not impressed. Cons: no parking, food is poor, service is also poor more

This place is hoppin in the summer time. It is great to pull up the boat and find a nice place to dine and have a good time. The servers seem to always act like they are having fun whether they are or not! more

My wife and I have been going to Captain Jacks on and off for years. I understand the criticism of the past, but there are now new owners and they have done a great job of turning the place around. One thing I enjoy is the fact that Captain Jacks is always hosting great activites for people. Whether it is the ice golf, the snow softball, Oak on the Water, the weekly Texas Hold'em tournaments, etc. there are always fun things to do in a great atmoshpere and with good people. If it has been a while since you have been there, try it again either in the winter or the summer. more

This restaurant is under new ownership. We've tried it several times and have had fast, friendly service. The menu is simplified for summer service as that is their busy time, however, if you want dinner entrees, they're offered every Friday and Saturday nights. I suggest the coconut walleye, it's awesome! Captain Jack's offers a fun lake atmosphere and beautiful views. Suggest previous reviewer try it again. We've never been disappointed in the last several months. more

Captain Jack's has a well-priced menu, offers a great lake atmosphere with beautiful views of Prior Lake and friendly service. Suggest the previous reviewer who had bad service on a birthday night try again. We've been there many times and have never had to wait for food to that extent. Also, if you want dinner entrees, they offer them every Friday and Saturday night. Try the coconut walleye, it's awesome! Watch for changes there. New owners are entertaining a new menu and a change in the decor/atmosphere. They're open for breakfast & lunch on the weekends again too. Pros: Moderately priced, very affordable. On the lake. We are locals and used to enjoy Captain Jack's for our family get-togethers and nights out with other couples. But, the service and menu has gone EXTREMELY DOWNHILL, and we will not return. Most recently, we went there to celebrate a family member's birthday. After orders were taken, we watched at least one other party leave in disgust after waiting. After over an hour, we again asked our waiter about our food. He said our order was ""lost"" after checking with the kitchen. We decided to just leave and enjoy our celebration elsewhere... very hungry at this point. Captain Jack's new menu is also a disappointment. They used to carry nice dinner entrees such as nut-crusted walley and a lemon caper chicken. No more - just burgers and sandwiches. You'd think they could keep pace with that easy menu. We were all VERY disappointed and will NOT return. Cons: slow / no service, reduced menu, wait = not for kids more

Captain Jack's offers a fun, lake atmosphere. You can pull your boat up to the dock or drive your car there. The food choices are good, wait time on food is pretty slow. Our toddler got overtired while we were there so my husband took him out to the boat to wait for the rest of the party to finish eating. The waitress boxed up his food and brought it down to him on the boat. Great customer service! more

This place has undergone an amazing transformation in the last year. With a new chef and new management, I once again enjoy the food and the lakeside atmosphere. For lunch, you can't go wrong, but you have to try the buffalo burger and the Captain Burger - they both taste great and are a bargain. Dinner entrees are out of this world also. Now ""Captain Jack's"", this place is a wonderful find. Think of a much smaller Lord Fletcher's without the snob appeal and high prices. Okay, so the food is different too, more of a bar and grill menu, but don't think it isn't quality. Sitting on the deck in the summer with a cold drink, watching the lake and the boats is a ton of fun. Great service too. Prices are reasonable as well. Pros: quaint Cons: hard to find more
