I recently went to a party held in the blue room at the Capital Club and was not impressed. Our server was not interested in taking drink orders, guests had to either wait 45min ...

Excellent place to meetup for drinks 5/8/2010

Excellent venue for meeting up for drinks prior to going out on the town. The cozy intimate ambiance of the downstairs with lush pillowed booths makes a great place to take a date and much better for having a conversation than the upstairs scene. The club atmosphere of the upper level is great for large groups, with a DJ spinning tunes, and a large open area for dancing walled with pillowy seating. On a warm summer night, the sparkly lighted outdoor terrace is the perfect place for sipping that yummy Chocolate Bacon Martini, a house specialty. Pros: Adventurous specialty drinks, cushiony and outdoor seating Cons: Parking can be challenging more

NEVER go to this bar 2/22/2010

my friends were walking past this bar last night when a few of the patrons standing on the sidewalk decided they ran into them. They attacked my friends and beat them very badly while the door guy claimed he didn't see anything and locked them out. no one at the club would be a witness for the police. Businesses like this should be run out of the neighborhood. more

Worst bar in capitol hill 2/7/2009

I've been to this bar several times last year, and I kind of liked the atmosphere, food, drinks and the music. This time, I went to celebrate my friend's b-day, and we had really bad experience (It was actually surprising, it seems something (owner?) changed?). First of all, the bartender guy was terribly unfriendly, and since the music was so loud, he didn't hear the right drink orders and made wrong drinks. When we corrected him (after he made), he got upset and yelled at us (couldn't believe it!). After all he made the right ones but charged us so much more. We thought food quality got worse, too. The music was ok still, but there were too many homosexuals dancing... and kept bumping against us. I don't think we'll ever go this place again. Pros: Music (DJ) Cons: Bartenders, service, decor, parking more

great place for a party 8/24/2008

After searching for a place to host my saturday nite birthday party we settled on the Capitol Club because of a delicious sounding menu, nice looking location and very reasonable event prices. We had one whole room of their dinning room for a very modest food & drink minimum and no room rental fee! Our server was very friendly and handled our large party with grace. The food was delicious though the portions are small because it's tapas. The music was great and, though we could hear the bar noise upstairs, it was not at all bothersome to our event. I had a great party here and highly recommend the Capitol Club! Pros: great food, nice ambiance Cons: small portions more

surprisingly pleased 6/1/2008

Went to Capitol Club the last time my buddy from San Diego was in town. I was extremely apprehensive, as I had heard some not-so-stellar things about it third-hand from someone else (obviously from my rating, a stale review), but thought what the hell since I had passed by it the week before and it appeared to be full of some damn happy looking folks. For good reason, it seems. We only went for happy (2) hours, but the food was really fantastic (and very reasonably--happy hour at least--priced). Specifically, if you like calimari, they serve the fattest, lightly breaded (i hate when it's overwhelmed by breading and grease) fried calimari that really let the natural taste come out. The other food that I nibbled on tasted great even though it was a bit unfamiliar (which was actually fun to try new stuff) and the beers / booze pretty damn cheap, especially considering the fact that the service was probably some of the best I've had. The guy waiting on us was really friendly from the outset, but somehow we discovered he was co-owner, and he told us all about their various specials. Apparently there are live music and performances too. The only negative thing I would have to report is that this joint is that I suspect it is about to get very popular in a hurry, since people tend to find out about such a great score pretty fast. This is probably one of those types of joints that's too good to last, but hopefully they'll be rewarded for doing it right. more

New Menu Same Awesome Place 3/23/2008

Its been a while since I had been to the Capitol Club and I was not expecting much to tell the truth. Last time I went there (6 months ago) the food was awful and the service was below average. But now I have to say Im glad my friend talked me into going there. They have a new menu and its SO YUMMY!! Its all Spanish food which I wasnt very familiar with but it was fantastic!! Also they have these new yummy drinks...I had a few with Tequila and Guava juice. Mmmm! Not to mention the cute waitress that waited on us was the sweetest thing ever! She even bought my friend dessert for her birthday! To sum it up if you havent been here in a while you are missing out! Definitely has changed for the better! Pros: Drinks, Food and Service Cons: The rain! I wanted to eat out on the deck! more

Excellent Service - great casual meeting place 9/23/2007

On the 3rd Tuesday of every month, we gather at The Capitol Club for a conversation about sexuality. The service is always excellent. Our group can be challenging, as we never know how many will show up and when. The food is consistently tantilizing. Their wagyu beef burger is premium and a favorite of many of our group. If you are looking for a casual meeting place for your group, with very reasonable food prices and excellent staff, this is the place! more

Great decor, bad food 1/23/2007

Great ambiance- the Moroccan flair is right up my alley. But the decor did not make up for the rest of the place. The food was bad and the place was freezing cold- ever thought to turn on a heater in January? And the Capitol Club is under new ownership or so and didn't have a liquor license- so, no drinks. We left after our less than appetizing dinner to head down the street to the Chapel to quench our thirst. It really is too bad as the place is so cute. Pros: Decor Cons: Food, no liquor, no heat more

Try to catch the live music and dancing! 11/15/2006

For some reason I always forget about The Capitol Club until I get invited to a birthday or special event here. The food, drink, and entertainment are superb. The food especially, it's really quite amazing for such moderately priced dishes. I always leave thinking "why don't I come here more often?" and for some reason I still can't figure out what it is about this place that makes me for get it so easily, when really it's a great spot. hmmm... more

Something different, something fun 11/13/2006

This is a good date spot, unique food, comfortable seating arrangements, and entertaining surroundings. The food was enjoyable and the staff was very friendly. A good pick when you are tired of your norms and want a nice comfortable night out. Pros: Diverse Flavors and Comfortable Setting Cons: Parking more

great place to take a date 10/31/2006

lots of cozy areas and pillows...good service, good drinks....romantic...they get live music sometimes too more

Amazing Food! 10/20/2006

If you haven't been since they hired a new chef, or have never been, GO NOW! The food is fantastic, the waitstaff is friendly and I was told that weekends are slower than midweek. I went three weeks ago to try out the new menu and I've been thinking about it since. I'm going back tonight. The main dining room does have an echo, large groups can drown out your own table conversation, but I was busy eating so I didn't mind! Pros: New chef, friendly waitstaff, good wine Cons: parking more

Cozy, yet exotic 10/16/2006

I hosted a surprise birthday party in the blue room there. The space itself was comfortable with benches along the walls with small coffee style tables. The server was attentive and brought the cake out with lit candles right on cue. The food was above average and included a variety of tasty treats from italian to indian. The kitchen did seem a little slow at preparing the food, but it was worth the wait. We brought our own decorations and the staff handled taking it all down at the end. I would definately recommed this. Pros: good food and drink Cons: kitchen was a little slow more

Dead on a sunday night.. 10/9/2006

Came in from Canada on a sundan night to try out this place after reading great reviews on cityseach. While the food and ambiance were spot on. There was no one here! We were almost the only ones in the restaurant... Also, on their website that on sundays they had cheap Hoegaardens, but they had none on tap.. Pros: Great food Cons: parking is hard to find more

Exotic & Cozy 6/6/2006

This quaint little place allows you to feel like you are not in the middle of a big city. The food was above and beyond my expectations! The seasonal menu was moderately priced (I would have paid more) and they had an extensive wine menu. I highly recommend getting a couple of courses and spending some time relaxing and and a great conversation. I felt our waitress was very attentive and gave great suggestions! The only thing I would change would be the acoustics... there was a party of about 8 women at the end of the room who had little consideration for the volume the rest of us had to endure. Other than that this is a place I would highly highly recommend for a wonderful escape with an exotic seasonal dinner. Pros: The atmosphere and menu Cons: parking more

fun and unique! 12/18/2005

I had my birthday party in the Blue Room having never been to the Capitol Club. All my co-workers recommended it highly, and I saw the great information on this website. My party turned out perfectly!! Our waitress was attentive and extremely helpful, the food was delish, the drinks were tasty and interesting, and I loved the decor & ambience. Also, the price was right. I'll definitely be back. Pros: Ambience, Excellent Service, Delicious Food/Drinks Cons: Parking? (Cab It) more

This was a DREAM experience 11/18/2005

While visiting from LA, I decided to check out this place and I have to say, I was PLEASED. Some of the best service I have ever had, great drinks, wonderful ambiance-- it was the total package. Great prices and an ideal location were icing on the cake. I never felt like I needed anything, but the waiter was totally non invasive-- I felt like I was having a romantic dinner in an isolated place, even though it was packed inside. I will definitely tell friends to check this place out when they are in town and hope to eat here again soon! more

Fantastic food, service, and entertainment 11/2/2005

I went to the Capitol Club for drinks with a friend on Tuesday evening, and was thrilled to find that a free flamenco performance was included. The flamenco duo sang and danced beautifully, while we enjoyed delicious cocktails. We were not planning on ordering dinner, but couldn't resist the wonderful smell coming from the table adjacent to ours. The duck breast with honey almond sauce is delicious. We will definitely be back soon. Pros: romantic, free entertainment, great food Cons: parking more

The Capitol Club has great food and stiff drinks! 10/23/2005

This is a great place to take anyone - the food is so good, the service top notch and the drinks are poured stiff! There is nothing not to like. I would definitely go there for after work happy hour or for dinner prior to a night out on the town. You will not be disappointed. Pros: Good Service, Great Food, Stiff Drinks! more

  • The Scene
Pillowed booths, ornate lanterns and candlelight set a swanky Moroccan mood that romance-seeking couples find irresistible. A DJ pipes in groovy background music that's as non-intrusive as waitstaff who keep the meal moving along smoothly. On a warm night, the balcony off the second-floor lounge is the perfect setting for a signature cocktail.

    The Food
Middle Eastern touches highlight this menu, with delicacies such as sweet Medjool dates with Brie, and sweet, fat scallops boldly combined with pomegranate vinaigrette and parsnip. The kitchen also draws on Spain, Italy and France for culinary inspiration. The grilled veal (a choice free-range organic chop) deserves special mention for its incredible tenderness and accompanying roasted grape sauce and celery root gratin. For herbivores, there's a filling risotto and substantial salads. Strong flavors dominate the bar food as well, such as a small pizza topped with fennel salami and olive tapanade.
