LESS than adequate. 7/29/2006

for the price, this place came up really short. Our server could not have cared less about presentation. the salad bar was a joke. one of our party's prime rib came VERY undercooked. The mozarella and tomato were old and the cabernet mushrooms had obviously been just sitting all night. The ribeye was simply OK...dittio for the prime rib...but for $28, you would expect more than a steak from winn-dixie. The coffee might have been purchased at waffle-house. Pros: we were with some friends Cons: food, service, CIGARETTE SMOKE FROM THE BAR more

Good for lunch 12/8/2004

I definitely recommend the Capital City Chop House for lunch. The prices at lunch are very reasonable, considering the fact that you're getting dinner-sized portions and quality ingredients. You can eat here for about $15 a person including the tip (if you don't get the filet). We had an appetizer and desserts, and it was still less than $25 a person. The service was also quite good, and our food arrived quickly. We finished our lunch about 45 minutes after we arrived, so we had time for dessert. We all enjoyed our food too. Pros: good food, good service, central location Cons: , sometimes expensive, crowded seating more

Outstanding meal !! 6/27/2004

Visited on 6/26/04. Our server, Mary Lou, gave us a tour of the menu and proceeded to take exquisite care of our part of 4. Salads were fresh, huge, and delicious. Strip steak and salmon entrees were superb; cooked exactly as ordered. Cheesecake was cream style and quite good. Portions were larger than expected; food was very tasty and well presented; service was excellent. Am looking forward to our next visit. Pros: quality of food, portion sizes, service more

Questionable!!! 5/17/2004

Ordered the herb grilled chicken breast, it came almost 20 mins later and tasted and smelled like...FISH!!! Called the manager who agreed and I asked for the steak which was excellent, my husband had ordered it as well, and it was really good. Service was very slow, however I was surprised they did not offer to comp at least my entree since I had their fishy chicken and it was quite traumatic. Would not go back there again... Pros: Good steak Cons: , slow service more

Totally Disappointed 4/2/2004

With a 9.2 rating, we expected good food, good service and an overall satisfying experience. We were very disappointed at the flavorless food, pitiful salads, and horrible service. My steak was supposed to be medium well, but it was charred well done, and they first cooked my boyfriend the wrong size steak. So, we waited forever for food, and our waiter barely seemed to know we existed. To be honest, the place reminded us of a slighly-upscale yet still bad hotel restaurant. And its way overpriced! Drive 5 more minutes to the Angus Barn where the food is always good and the service impeccable. Pros: Location Cons: , Service, Overpriced more

#9? Have you lost your taste buds? 3/11/2004

The Chop House has by far the best steak in town! The food, dessert, wine selection, cigar selection, beverages, not to mention the fantastic service is by far the most consistent of any of the Restaurants listed. I'll say that the other restaurants have decent food, but for the best steak and the best ambience around, you just cannot possibly beat Capital City Chop House! Making you feel special is their specialty. #9? You're out of your mind! I've never had a better meal. Pros: Highly Romantic, Great service, Fantastic wine list more

Consistency 3/11/2004

Consistency is what I look for in a restaurant. Service, food preparation...this is what you will find at The Capital City Chop House. Our experience has always been pleasurable and I always look forward to our next visit. Thank you...Capital City Chop House for your service. Debbie Cline Pros: consistency, delicious, cleanliness more

Allways come back 7/21/2003

Whenever I'm in the area, I make the trip over to the Capitol City Chop House. An associate of mine suggested it the first time I flew into RDU, so I gave it a try. The Tuna appetizer is a must have, the Wasabi will definitally light you up. The steaks are great, I've never tried anything else. Sure it's pricy, but IMO, the steaks are better than Sullivan's or Ruth's Chris. Morton's is another story.... Pros: Great food, Good drink selection, Attractive setting Cons: Pricey more

BIG Disappointment 4/13/2003

Overall, for the price, we would have expected better service. We all had to ask for refills, our server was attentive upon our request but did not initiate service herself. She also recommended the double-stuffed potato...it turned out to be dry and pasty. My friend's she-crab soup was luke-warm. I will say that the filet was done right, but I could have gotten a better meal somewhere else. I also second-guessed whether or not they put any vodka in my bloody mary...I honestly could not taste it. The entrees alone average $25. The bill for the four of us came out to over $120, we didn't order dessert...the Chophouse is not worth the price. I wish you all better luck. We will not be going back! more

Best steak in the Triangle 1/23/2003

I dined at the Chop House for a rehersal dinner before a wedding. I highly recommend it for any special occasion. more

Great Meat! Needs Seats! Why Salad? 1/20/2003

First time at the Chophouse Jan 2003. No reservations. Seated promptly at 6:30PM(Fri) Found the meat (Filet) to be the amoung best I have had at any place. All other items were of equal quality. I do wonder why a place of this quality would still have a salad bar??? The wait staff was good, but under par for this restaurant. Better timing and attentiveness are required. The seating is a bit cramped for most carnivores. But I would go back again for the food! The Chef(s) are great! Pros: Great Beaf Quality, Exact meal prep., Easy to get to Cons: Seat sizing, Wait Staff Training more

My favorite hangout 1/13/2003

I stop here for dinner whenever I'm in the RTP area. The food is great and the service is outstanding. more

Excellent 12/27/2002

My meal was excellent (chilean sea bass-- highly recommended). The food was great, the atmosphere was nice, the service was excellent. Even the price was comparable similar establishments (Angus Barn, Fins, Ruth Chris, etc., Prime Only, etc.). One final note. I've seen several folks compare Capital City to the Angus Barn. For my money, Capital City is far superior. I have been to the Angus Barn a handful of times over the span of six or seven years. None of my visits were distinguished in any way. The food wasn't awful, but it certainly wasn't great, especially when the price is factored in. So if you want atmosphere and ""high society"" status, go to the Angus Barn. If you want a romantic, cozy spot with great food (at least the seafood seems great) go to Capital City. Pros: great food, great service, nice ambience Cons: expensive more

Believe it's a 10 12/19/2002

I went there for dinner after my college graduation. We had a reservation for 9 for 8 pm, but the people sitting at our table did not want to leave. Even though we kept asking the hostess about our table she was always extremely polite. The table had finished eating at 7:45 and were just talking, so eventually one of the managers had to ask them to leave. Waiting was very aggravating at the time. We finally sat down at 8:30 at one of the nicest tables in the restaurant. Not only was the service incredible and the food fabulous, but our waiter gave us three free desserts and did not charge us for the extra sides we ordered. What could have been a ruined evening turned into one of the greatest meals I've ever had. Pros: atmosphere, service, food quality more

UMMM SO GOOD ! 12/10/2002

My wife and I used to travel to Greensboro to Gate City Chop House for this kind of food and service so we were very pleased when Capitol city was opened. I recomend the cajun seared beef tips w/orange marnier sauce for an appitizer ummm. The service and especially the presentation of entrees make each visit a delight. more

A Rising Star 11/9/2002

Went there for the first time earlier this week. Had heard raves and now I know why. The atmosphere is excellent, it's great for 2 or 10. The waitstaff is superb, all your needs are taken care of, without anyone 'hovering'. I'll go to restaurant if the service is great even if the food is just adequate, however, at the CCCH, the food is the best !!! Couldn't find anything that wasn't perfect. Wouldn't hesitate to suggest it to anyone. Pros: waitstaff, seating, food more

Steak & Beer 11/7/2002

Great steak, a killer black and tan, and the best shrimp bisque I've ever put in my mouth. A great place! more

Good business dinner 9/17/2002

Finding a restauarant that serves good food to a party of 12 in good time with friendly efficient service is tough. Capital City Chop House did it. more

Professional service & Fabulous Food! 6/21/2002

We held our rehearsal dinner here, as well as some trial dinners before we decided on this place. The restaurant may be in the middle of nowhere but once you enter, you are welcomed and seated and professional waiters with vast knowledge of food and chef's cuisine greet and take your order. The service is very good and the staff is very professional. They made our rehearsal dinner a fabulous and memorable one. Thank you!!! Pros: Great food, Great service Cons: Slightly expensive more

was a 5, now 7.5 6/20/2002

As for the 01/17/02, the manager (?) in question is gone. So I hope you all will return. For I (an x-cook) will say the management are good now, as for the food, I think it is very good, and the price is competitive. Pros: Graet food, price Cons: the wait, parking more
