A Delight 4/8/2012

Yesterday we were attending the annual car show in La Verne, Ca. and stopped for lunch at Cafe Allegro. We thought it was an excellent experience in all respects. The ambience, the food and the service were quite to our liking. The waitress in particular was,as I think as she said, on her first day on the job and she needn't have said so, as she was everything a cutomer could wish for. The setting and the food were so good, and the Bar Harbor, house Chardonnay was just right. Congratulations on a job well done ! more

An open window into thier kitchen 9/11/2008

Cafe Allegro in Laverne is a quite romantic lovely evening experience. As you wait for your table your anticipation of a great meal is teased as through the sidewalk window you watch the chef and staff preparing the dishes you will soon be indecisive over. There are so many beautiful and interesting choices that as each order gets its finishing garnishes you are certain it is the one you must have. if you are seated inside you may end up sharing a table with strangers that will soon be friends or outside under the canopy and heaters you can have a romantic sidewalk cafe starry night and candlelight dream come true. The staff is friendly and stay very attentive even when short handed. The food is absolutely wonderful and the wine both good and reasonable. Pros: ambiance of this sidewalk cafe is amazing Cons: you will have to wait if busy so just take a stroll around downtown laverne more

poor customer service 4/28/2007

i came in to upland cafe for wine and dessert was asked to sit by the waitress station when few were left in place. Asked to sit somewhere besides there. was taken outside. was pleased with that. asked if wet rag could be used on sticky table. got creme bru and terrime su with wine. terri was fabulous, creme was over cooked. close to scrambled eggs. When asked by hostess how things were, i mentioned the food was always terrific but the creme was overcooked. she said the chef did not prepare it. I jokingly said maybe the bus boy prepared it. we all laughed. hostess stated that her mother made it also. i showed her the creme as it looked coagulated from being overcooked. she agreed. Gave the waitress cash then the mgr. come out and asked me not to come back and gave me all my cash back. Please! do not ask me how things were if one does not want to know then have the nerve to ask me not to come back for my comments. To add, that was the FIRST TIME i had ever had anything wrong with the food. The service has always been un cordial and inexperienced I have found. I had commented about the service before when asked how things were. see fore note about do not ask if do not want to know!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: fabulous food Cons: POOR SERVICE more

Quaint local Italian Neighborhood Eatery 8/22/2005

Pasta can almost be seen as something as easily as a $3 bottle of pasta sauce, $4 container of Parmesan cheese, and $2's worth of pasta noodles from your neighborhood grocery store, but than you'd be over simplyfying pasta down to the point of Sushi being only vinegared rice and raw fish. So when I took my first bite of my ""Penne Explosion"" I was happily impressed. You could tell this sauce was prepared down to the detail although the Cioppino was jus' mediocre because of the odd usage of starchy filler ingredient like potato's that had been food prepped fairly largely. Aside from that, the service seemed as though it was biasedly unattententive, but I'm definitely willing to give it another shot! Pros: Warm atmosphere, Pasta Dish's, Neigborhood Restauran Cons: Service to sum degree more

The food here is better than... 3/23/2005

The food is just out of this world delicious. Every dish here is a delight but the marsala, darlings, the sauce is absolutely dreamy and the sliced almonds with the freshly grated cheese, heaven on a plate. I have never found a restaurant that comes even close to tasting as good. If marsala is not your thing (then you must be from mars) any pasta meal on the menu is fantastic but whatever you do, only eat about half of it so you can save room for the tiramisu, that they make fresh, it is layers of cream, soft lady fingers, cocoa and a drizzle of espresso, of course if that is not your thing (you're just crazy) the crème brulee will not leave you disappointed. Pros: The food, Cozy, Great Date Place Cons: Small, No reservations more

Small in stature. Large in flavor 8/11/2002

Located in downtown La Verne (ajacent the Pomona Fairgrounds) a person catches the wonderful aroma of authentic Italian food before you even see the restaurant. Priceing midrange, and seating rather crampted(unless you care to sit at one of the sidewalk tables.) However, the pasta dishes are worth any minor inconvience you may encounter. Everything is good here the Chicken Marsala the ABSOLUTE best I've EVER had. A small, cozy bar is located in the back. A variety of good wines are available. Children NOT recommended due to limited seating, and crampted quarters. Try this place. You'll love it! Pros: Excellent food, Fresh preparation Cons: Poor seating, No alcohol outside more

very romantic 7/1/2002

Great little Italien restaurant--perfect place for a romantic meal. The food and service are both quite good. Cafe Allegro in Upland is a bit less cramped. more
