I guess if you really love Northern Italian food with strange trendy additives to make it unique, then this place is for you. Ambience was fantastic, service average, and food......

Delicious 10/21/2002

One of the best restaurants in the Seattle area--great food, very good service. Ambience a bit mundane, but at least they don't try to hip it up like some places in Belltown. I don't know what the person who complained about small portions was talking about--maybe it's not TGIFriday's, but the portions were quite large for this caliber of place. Pros: Varied menu, Delicious preparation, Good value Cons: Parking, Ambience more

Not worth it 10/4/2002

My husband and I dined at Cafe Juanita for our anniversary. The food was delicious, but the portions were ridiculously tiny. I certainly wasn't expecting large portions, but this was silly. Just a little bit more would have been fine. My husband's steak was overly salty and he said it wasn't good. My scallops were delicious. The waiter wasn't as attentive as I would have liked and a tad snooty. I don't like to pay for snooty. The ambiance was interesting, but kind of crowded and the lighting was almost too low. I thought the food was overpriced by about 25%. It was a nice dinner, but I don't think we'll be returning. Pros: good food, romantic atmosphere, nice restrooms Cons: small portions, overpriced, inattentive staff more

Best in Seattle area 9/17/2002

Truly fine cuisine - most exquisite food prepared by one of the countrys top chefs, served by a knowledgeable and professional wait staff. Rated nationally as one of the top restaurants in the US. more

The wine list, Oh my God!!! 9/1/2002

The food is fabulous, no doubt. But the wine list is extraordinary. Great and rare wines for every budget. It's worth the trip to the eastside. Pros: Service Cons: parking more

Worth every penny! 8/23/2002

Cafe Juanita is the kind of resturant so many places pretend to be, and yet are not. The menu is varied and inventive, primarily Northern Italian, but with French influences. Every dish I have tried has been presented flawlessly, with impeccable ingredients prepared perfectly and paired with inspiration. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is intimate without being overly formal. The appearance from the outside is deceptive; although the interior is not luxurious, it is pleasant and does not detract from the star of the show... The FOOD!! Pros: Quality of food, gourmet value Cons: Exterior appearance, tables to close more

Has always been a favorite of ours, but after it was sold, we worried. However, the food is even better. more

elegant italian cuisine 7/29/2002

I've been eating at Cafe Juanita for over 15 years. When Peter Dow owned ""Cafe J"" it was always solid, the wine list was great, and the service very friendly and knowledgeable. With Holly Smith at the helm, all that is true, plus the interior has been spruced up, and the food is every bit as tasty but also more sophisticated and elegant. Pros: great wine list, relaxing atmosphere more
