One of St. Paul's Best-Kept Secrets.... 8/16/2006

For people who enjoy Italian cooking without depending on a gallon of red sauce, this is your restaurant. A large variety of menu items as well with everything prepared well. Service was extremely quick and friendly. more

Great food. 7/16/2006

A find. Today was my first visit to Biaggios. I had the spaghetti and meatballs. It was very good. The marinara sauce is excellent. My lunch partner had the lasagne and was impressed. Service is not very good. Maybe if they left the olive oil at the table it would free up some waitress time. The bread basket needs more bread.\r \r The lunch menu has a limited number of items. \r \r I know that the restaurant is hown as being $$$, but I think it should be a $$. \r \r Ambience is excellent. Pros: Food, parking Cons: Slow service. more

Homestyle Italian 6/5/2006

We've been to Caffe Biaggio several times now, and we've always been very satisfied. Being from Chicago, I was happy to find a place where I could go for a business lunch and find a real Italian beef sandwich with giardeneria peppers! I've come back several times with my wife and friends in the evening, and the atmosphere, food and service were terific. As the menu says, it's not a chef place, but rather an owner-operated homestyle, European-Italian restaurant. OIn the evening there are courses...antipasti, primi, secondi, dolci. All were tasty and generous. Just like my family would make as a kid! I highly recommend it! Pros: independent, good parking, tasty more

poor service 5/31/2006

probably worst service for upscale restaurant in Twin Cities. All food arrived at the same time for everybody at the table: salad, soup, pasta. Water never refilled. Bill had to be changed twice (was wrong) more

Great flavors 5/16/2006

Great flavors on the food. The Bolognese was extremely flavorful, not what I expected but very good. My dining partner had beef braised in wine that was excellent, extremely tender and large portion. The Arancini we had as an appetizer were also good, perfectly fried and no greasiness at all. I will definitely return. The only thing that made it less than spectacular was the wait person. She wasn't knowledgable about the food preparation or the winelist and she was unable to make conversation. But she was still prompt and attentive. Pros: food, portions, decor Cons: service more

The best food in the City 8/25/2005

This is such a wonderful place! The food was out of this world! I would recommend the Tomato Basil soup it is unlike anything I have ever had, and in general I am not a huge fan of tomato soup, this is the exception to the rule. My mother had this wonderful bread pudding w/ a carmel sause for desert. The service was excellent. Try this place out, you will not regret that you did. more

Best Takeout Containers in the Cities! 5/7/2003

The menu needs a major overhaul. After having great difficulty choosing what to order for lunch, I settled on somesort of giant ""steamed"" meat sandwich served on a juice-soaked bun with a few hot peppers for garnish - very odd. My companion ordered the overpriced lasagna and she was pleased with the meal, but not the price. The interior of the restaurant is beatiful and most romantic. Service was not great considering the restaurant wasn't very busy. The reusable takeout containers can't be beat! Pros: romantic, free parking, takeout containers Cons: overpriced, odd menu, slow service more

Cafe Biaggio 4/3/2003

This restaurant was a major let down. First off, we were seating behind the hostess station and next to the coat rack (which had people sqeezing by our table to get their coats). The service was slow. There was no olive oil at the table and the bread was forgotten. The food had no flavor. I had the seafood special which consisted of 5 fishy tasty frozen shrimp and old mussels that I couldn't eat. The pasta was bland. No sauce even! The veggies were under cooked and the brick roasted chicken was dry and lacked flavor. Cons: Seating arrangements, overpriced, bland food more

Great Expectations 1/18/2003

I was glad to see the space put to use on University. Great art moderne windows. Very nice loft-like atmosphere--brightly lit, large art and B&W photos (some nude pix)on brick walls. We went with a small group on New Year's eve. The wine, two bottles of $39 cianti, was very good, the appetizers average--portobellos were bland, the bruschetta was burnt (but the olive-topped ones were very good), but the sirloin strips in balsalmic were wonderful. Our friends enjoyed lasagna in white sauce and brick chicken. The desserts sounded fantastic, but we didn't imbibe. Service was friendly and quick, but not hurried. Some nice tables good for groups of 8-10. Pros: atmosphere, entrees, wine Cons: appetizers more

pretension, anyone? 12/27/2002

the decor and design: interesting and eye appealing the service: horrid ? mostly non-existant? condecending? yes , I think that about describes it the menu was promising, I saw other plates come from the kitchen looking fantastic, so perhaps ours were a fluke. Overcooked fish for my friend (despite her requests) my ciopinno was minature, lacking in broth, and the shellfish in it were also cooked for about a week too long. the bread was delicious, volume level deafening Pros: good parking, great bread more

Hip 12/24/2002

Great food, wait staff knowledgeable when it comes to wines. When you make a reservation ask for the ""nudie table"" more

Great Restaurant 12/4/2002

Cafe Biaggio is a great restaurant. Service was wonderful. Appetizer, salad, entree and dessert was great. Cool interior. Highly recommend this new St. Paul Restaurant. Pros: Great Service, Nice interior Cons: Not a huge menu more

fun and quirky 11/18/2002

I think Caffe Biaggio was great!!!!! I love the art and the fun music. It's close seating to others but it was fun to step out of my comfort zone and actually meet the couple sitting next to us. The food wasn't the typical Italian that you find everywhere else, it was fabulous!!! I had the shrimp and the dessert menu is to die for!! I would say overall it was great food, great atmosphere, and I'll definately go back. Pros: not typical Italian, colorful, romantic Cons: a bit cold more

Cafe Biaggio go go go 11/16/2002

My wife and I went to Cafe Biaggio for the first time this week. The ambience was welcoming and it looked like a restaurant setting you would see in New York City. Full of art work, white table cloths and tile work. The food was spectacular. I had the Grilled steak with collard greens and wild mushrooms, and my wife had the spinach ghnoci. The service was fast and freindly. It was great over all. I would recommend it to anyone. Pros: good parking, great wine selection more

what's the fuss? 11/16/2002

We dined here mid-afternoon - the place was empty, yet somehow our waitress kept forgetting about us. The salad was limp and dry, the tuna overcooked to a sickly gray. Great decor, interesting wine list - but there's no way we'll return. more
