Cafe Andree is one of my favorite restaurants in the city.

Worst

Quite ordinary to say the least. Maybe dinner is better than breakfast, but the waiter seemed as though he had been up all night. The toast was cold. The jam was Smuckers in ...

Amazing food, great service 6/27/2005

It's amazing that I hadn't heard of this restaurant even though it is so close to Union Square. We ordered the small and medium plates and everything we got was delicious. The Tartare with Ahi Tuna, Mango and Avacado was simply amazing, as was the potato tortilla with grilled prawns. The duck confit enchiladas should probably be listed as a medium plate rather than small; it was scrumptious nonetheless. I will defintely go back to try their other stuff, especially the banana walnut empanada with French Vanilla gelato on their desert menu. They have a fixed-price menu which looked pretty good too. I believe they regularly change their a-la-carte menu, so look forward to more delicious food at this amazing restaurant. Pros: Reasonably priced, Good wine list, Fantastic food Cons: Small more

This Cafe is a Gem 6/18/2005

If you like trendy, over-priced , over-rated restaurants with an attitude then do not come here. If you want very fine creative dining in a relaxed atmosphere then have dinner with Andree. The restaurant has a New Yorker theme and you dine in a comfortable setting of a home library. It is intimate, romantic , friendly and quiet. We had the fixed menus with accompanying wine pairings (one Chef's tasting menu and one vegetarian). French nouvelle cuisine with a Latino kick beautifully presented. The Steak au poivre was perfection. All for less than $100 for two! The service was friendly but imperfect. The menu and wine options needed some explanation which we did not get. This place is a winner. Pros: Inexpensive, Creative menu, Quiet more

Highly Recommended Restaurant in Union Square 5/8/2005

I really enjoyed the dinner I recently had at Cafe Andree. Each bite resonated with tastebud popping flavor. The presentation? It was visually stimulating... very satisfying eye candy. What a profoundly perfect fusion of Latino and French cuisine! I will definitely recommend the restaurant to many others. With Cafe Andree, how can one go wrong? My personal three musts were present in each meal: flavor, presentation and an extremely reasonable price for such an adventurous meal! And by the way, Cafe Andree is adjacent to the lobby of the Hotel Rex. I was there on a weekend night, so I also got to listen in on the live jazz and acoustic musical performances at the lobby. Another tantalizing treat! Maria Carlota Salem Pleasanton, CA Pros: romantic, excellent service, affordable more

Nice Pre-fixed menu 5/4/2005

The prefixed menu for dinner was very affordable--$34.00 with wine pairings for $15.00 additional. The food was delicious, presentation was great, and service was awesome! We'll come back again soon. more

Great Quaint Restaurant in Union Square 3/21/2005

This restaurant is a hidden gem! I had lunch with a client and was greeted by the friendly staff. The food was delicious and unique. It's a nice place to getaway from the Union Square crowd. Cafe Andree is located on Sutter Street inside the Hotel Rex. The hotel looks great, too! If I were not living in S.F., it's a hotel that I would have stayed at. Pros: Intimate, Trendy, Delicious food Cons: Small more

inexpensive quality 1/3/2005

cafe andree offers up the best qualities of the mission district restaurants in the heart of union square. the food, wine, and cocktails are wonderful, the atmosphere is great, and at the end of the meal the price tag is extremely reasonable. once you have tried the tortilla soup, the argentine empanadas, or the duck confit enchiladas, you will be hooked. i also like the fact that the wine and beer lists offer quality choices not often found in most restaurants. Pros: quality, price, atmosphere more

Best Kept SF Secret 6/27/2004

My niece, grandniece and nephew took me to Cafe Andree for dinner after seeing Buddy, The Buddy Holly Story. What a pleasant surprise to be able to enjoy dinner without being rushed. Thank you, to the staff of Cade Andree for making my birthday special. The food and service were outstanding. They get a prefect 10 in my book. Pros: Excellent Food, Great Service, Not too load more

Best Secret in Union Square 6/21/2004

The new Cafe Andree at the Rex Hotel is one of San Francisco's newest secrets. I work in Union Square and I have been there for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I used to take clients to Postrio or Scala's, but Cafe Andree's quality of food is much better and certainly the value is. I am confident that Cafe Andree will be a success, but of course I am worried that I wont get a seat. more

Just plain luscious .... 3/24/2004

My companion and I shared five small and medium plates, and each one was absolutely wonderful -- fresh and lively flavors, beautifully presented, reasonably priced. The selection of wines by the half-glass (and glass) was also excellent and complemented the food well. I can't wait to go back and try the things we didn't have room for! Pros: Food, Wine more
