Café Soleil

I LOVE Ethiopian food! It's absolutely amazing that it hasn't caught on in a bigger way in this country, because it is more nutritious, less expensive, and more tasty than what people usually eat. Unfortunately, some other Ethiopian restaurants apparently have Ethiopian sanitation standards, though not everyone lets roaches bother them. Also unlike other Ethiopian restaurants, Café Soleil does not burn large amounts of frankincense. Café Soleil prepares its dishes with as much skill as the others, in a beautiful location in Madrona, with lots of light. Their weekend breakfast foods don't look Ethiopian at all, but are equally well prepared. more

This is by far my favorite Ethiopian restaurant in Seattle. There are many close to this restaurant that are also good, but Café Soleil is excellent. The food isn't served traditional-style, instead subscribing to a more family-style, where the dishes and injera are served separately. The flavor of the dishes has always been exceptional. Brunch/breakfast on the weekends is also good, and for dinner there are non-Ethiopian items on the menu as well. The restaurant is also available for special events. We rented out the whole place for a rehearsal dinner, and it was only the price of everyone's meal. No astronomical fee or anything tacked on. The service has always been good, and the atmosphere is relaxed and has tons of character. I highly recommend this restaurant! more
