Being from out west, I'm pretty hard pressed to find good Mexican food here in NYC. At Cabrito, I've found at least part of what I've been so desperately seeking. At the top of my list are the delectable carnitas. They're just plain perfect, I don't know what else to say. Eat them, you won't be disappointed, I promise. Next up is the extremely impressive tequila selection behind the bar. Not the place to go for shots with your buddies, but definitely a destination for the tequila connoisseur (or just plain old drunk with taste).
The only thing on the menu I had a problem with was the cheese enchiladas, the most basic staple, and the focus of my continuing quest. While they were, indeed, extremely delicious, the price is simply not justifiable. At $15, the plate comes out sans rice and/or beans, and honestly looks a little...pinche (there's really no other word). They're served, essentially, a la carte, though they're priced as an entree. Like I said, delicious, but a little overpriced.
Overall, a great eat. Go there, enjoy yourself, and the lovely, friendly staff. This place is for fun and friends. Great for hanging, nuff said.
