Very Smart Vet 3/27/2013

Great, Great, Great!!! I have been going to this clinic for the past 7 years and everyone is great. Dr. Reuter is the most intelligent veterinarian I have ever spoken to, he knows about many diseases and conditions that can occur in pets, and know how to treat just about anything. I have a 8 year old beagle mix that recently had some odd behaviors come about, and I had been to several veterinarians in the Overland Park area, not one could figure out what was wrong with him. Dr. Reuter said it sounded like Cushing's disease, and turns out he was right. He definitely knows his stuff!! I will refer anyone here. And p.s., if you refer someone to the groomer, you get a free bath/nail trim! more

Highly recommend! 7/11/2012

Dr. Rueter and his entire staff have been most supportive and attentive to my needs. I have been with them for 15 years. Dr. Rueter in my book is compassionate, understanding, and truthful. His entire staff are wonderful, caring people and love animals. I have never been or felt misled by any of the advice I've received on the care of my pets. I'm currently adding a new little member to my family and look forward to many more years with this business.\r FYI I have cats, like dogs and they love 'em all. more

Positive experience 9/17/2011

I was referred to Companion Animal Hospital by a co-worker. She warned me that his bed side manner might not be the best but he is good at what he does and reasonably priced. I even read the other reviews on here before making an appointment. I made an appointment with the receptionist for the next morning. I was able to drop off my dog on my way to work. I picked her back up after work. Everyone was helpful and compassionate. He was available to talk to even after he was no longer at the office. True, he is blunt. He shoots from the hip and tells you how it is. But this is what I needed. I appreciate things not being sugar coated. Very glad that this is the vet that I chose. more

Worst Vet Ever 8/22/2011

Not only did the vet give a wrong diagnosis, he convinced us that our dog didn't stand a chance. Our dog was suffering from a painful disease and i hated seeing her like that. So we took her to the vet hoping to get her treated when he made it seem impossible and that euthanization was the only option. After i got home and thought about it some of the things he was saying werent making sense. So i did some research and it turns out she would have had almost a 100% recovery and that very very rarely do they not get well. Not only did he tell us the wrong thing, but he was a complete ass hole about it. He had no emotion at all and said' "There is nothing we can do, would you like to put her down?" \r \r My advice: NEVER come to this place if it actually takes knowledge for them to do something. more

Cheap Rates 6/25/2011

I came in the clinic to inquire about vaccine prices, letting them know I used to recieve a discount rate due to prior vaccines given to my dog at Petco. The girl at the front desk let me know they always match prices including this one, which at the store was $51 for all yearly vaccines. I will definitely continue to use this facility as my primary veterinarian clinic, considering the Petco stores no longer offer a discount veterinarian, and she said they also match PetMed.com. They also have boarding and grooming at a discount rate for those who mention "Petco." more

Perfect Timing 3/6/2011

I was actually referred to this clinic by Great Finds, which is right next door. I noticed the owner had two small dogs in her store and I mentioned that I was very unhappy with my previous vet and was looking for a new one. She said ever since the day she opened her place right next door she has been taking her dogs there and has had nothing but the most exceptional treatment, and considers all employees close friends. I happened to have my chow, Tank, in the car and stopped in to get a nail trim, and to scope the place out. It was very busy and I had to wait about 15 min, but the receptionist was extremely nice and loved Tank. The doctor came out and trimmed his nails very nicely, and the groomer offered to bathe him for a total of $20, the nails included. I left after Tank was dry very satisfied, and Tank's wagging tail said it all! This is a very informative and friendly staff that I am very glad I took Tank too. I will definitely be back. more

Good Vet 12/17/2010

Very clean clinic, and informative staff. Dr. Reuter is a very smart vet, in spite of the fact he's a little rough around the edges! more

Karen W. real estate agent 11/2/2010

I am new to the area and drove by and saw this vet clinic. I walked in with my shitzu "Spooky". I was greeted by a frendly woman who called herself "BJ", I told her I needed some shots for my dog and an exam because my dog was scratching. She called for the vet and he came to the foyer and outstreched his hand and said hi that he was Dr, Reuter. He asked how he could help and I told him I needed shots and an exam for scratching. He was very nice and took me to the exam room. After a through exam he showed me some flea dirt and said my dog had fleas. He gave him some shots and offered me just one dose of flea solution to help defray the cost, The bill was reasonable and the other person BJ gave me a card and offered grooming services for $30.00. I had been paying $45.00 in Utah where I just moved from. I made an appoint ment and was impressed with BJ's profile which is on the counter. I was happy to know that the cat laying on the counter was rescued and lives at the clinic. more

Very Sympathetic 10/16/2010

I came into Companion Animal Hospital on October first of this year, and I had a great experience. I live in Independence and have my own vet, but was visiting friends in Overland Park with my dog and needed help. My 22 year old shih tzu was having problems and I was thinking it was time for her to be put down. I passed by the hospital unannounced and explained my problem and the vet tech was very helpful and sympathetic. My dog had lost complete hearing and sight over the last couple years, and just this week was not willing to eat or drink. She understood and provided tissues, explaining this is a very difficult time. Dr Reuter came in and did a full wellness exam, and discovered that she was severely dehydrated, with a very low blood pressure. He very nicely explained to me that she was older and he would be more than happy to put her on a low protein diet along with pain medication that ws safe to use every day, but I knew it would be expensive to keep her alive and honestly more

This place needs to be out of business! 8/11/2010

This place should be out of business. This place is not professional. They do not take care of your pet the way they should. more

Best Vet in OP KS 4/29/2010

We have been taking our pets (cats & dogs) to Dr. Reuter for over 8 years. I found him and his staff to be the most attentive and caring & sympathetic to the needs of our pets and then us. I would highly recommend them to anyone and have. Dr. Rueter is passionate about animal care. If he's rude it's because pet owners don't understand their pets and won't listen to his advice. He's a good man and his staff is great!!!!!! more

Worst experience I ever had with a vet. 9/17/2009

The rudest people I have ever delt with. I Stood at the counter for 5 min. before he would help me. I guess the solitaire game he was playing meant more to him than a customer, Then he was the most condescending ass I ever talked too. Like he was doing me a favor talking to me. I easily spend several thousand dollars a year on my 4 dogs, He can kiss that good by. more

Companion Animal Hospital is NOT A GOOD PLACE 9/14/2009

I thought DR. Reuter was an insensitive jerk who has no sympothy for animals and should be banned from practicing!!!! NEVER TAKE YOUR ANIMAL TO DR. REUTER!!!! JERK more

don't patronize this vet 7/31/2009

I took my dog into the vet just to get his nails trimmed. We went to this location just for the fact that it was close to our house. When we walked in the door I asked about a nail trim. The Dr. was the only one present, he looked at my self and my dog and stated "your lucky that one of your neighbors doesn't report you for animal abuse. I asked why, when the doctor replied he is extremal overweight. you should be able to see the dogs ribs then down to his waist. For this being my very first experience at this vet, I swore I would never return. I then went to my regular vet and asked him about my baby being "fat." My vet told me that he felt that he was average and there was nothing to be concerned about. more

Very Rude Service 11/3/2008

I didn't even meet the doctor. The front desk staff was so rude I never made an appointment. They were very unprofessional in just answering the phone. I thought I might have the wrong # and had to as if it was Companion, they just answered "hello".\r I do not recommend them at all. more

Very Informational 5/19/2008

I started taking my cat to this vet because it was the closest to my house. He was very nice with my new cat and worked well with him. He also was very quick to get him in and the early hours that they are open work very well for me. Also, the second visit I brought my cat back because I thought he had an infection in his paw (which he didn't), but the vet checked him out and also answered all my random questions about my cat (like why does he chew on metal). He also helped me get medication for my cat for when I have to travel with him. One of the best parts is that he didn't charge me for the visit, only the medication. At times the vet is a little short, but he knows his stuff and he'll treat you as nicely as you treat him. Overall, I would recommend this vet because of convience and his wealth of knowledge. more

Terrible bedside manner 9/7/2006

We took our puppy to Dr. Reuter at Companion Animal Hospital for the first (and last) time last Friday because Mickey was constantly vomiting and we wanted to get him to the nearest vet. As soon as the doctor walked in, knowing nothing about Mickey or his history, stated that Mickey has Parvo. He just assumed that we had never vaccinated Mickey. I explained that he is current on all of his vaccinations and provided proof. When I put Mickey on the table, Dr. Reuter proceeded to put a very large thermometer in Mickey's rectum. Mickey of course screamed and hollered and tried to squirm away as I held him down so that the doctor could do his job. I expected the doctor to show Mickey some sympathy, realizing how uncomfortable it must be to have someone put a large object in your rectum when you're already feeling terrible as it is, but instead he turned to me and said, "You need to get this dog into obedience school". Following that statement the receptionist hollered in, "And that's why we more
