After owning my own marketing company for 24 years I decided to get into real estate investing about five years ago. I had no idea what I was doing, I just thought that this might be a nice change of pace. I went to my first CTREIA meeting and was amazed to find out there were hundreds of people just like me. Over the years I have evolved from fixing and selling single family homes, to wholesaling, to small multi-family properties to a full time investor with ownership in four apartment complexes totalling 415 units. Everything I learned about this business, I learned from speakers or events or members of CTREIA. If you don't know a lot about real estate, this is where you can learn. I have been a member of CTREIA for the past 2 years. When I started I had only done about 3 rehabs and really wanted to find some other people in the same business. I joined and started attended all of the monthly meetings. I usually meet about 4 or 5 other people at each meeting that do rehabs right here in Connecticut. In the past 6 months I have done 7 new rehabs and my business is growing quickly. I don't think I could have done it without joining this REIA. Great association...highly recommended. Pros: Awesome for networking, very informational events Cons: My business has grown so fast I'm struggling to keep up... but I think that is a pro? more
