I am a happy customer. 12/13/2011

We've done business with this jeweler several times over the years and have always been very happy. The first time we hired them was several years ago. We had them fix a loose stone on my engagement ring and they did a wonderful job. When we got engaged we hired a jeweler in West Lake to set the stones in the ring and they did a pretty bad job. One of the small diamonds eventually fell off and thank goodness my husband found it on our carpet. I took the ring to CKR Designs and explained the problem to them. They not only put the stone back in but also fixed the settings and realigned the small stones to make them fit better and more securely. The whole ring looked better after they were done and I was very happy. Can't remember who did the actual work but I could tell whoever did it is really good at what he/she does. Recently we purchased a beautiful antique ring there. While having it resized I decided to ask them about changing the setting of my engagement ring's center stone. It was set very high by the original jeweler and was catching on things a lot and also looked too stuck out. This time I worked with Dan. He explained to me what could be done and gave a very clear estimate up front. I believe Dan also did the modification and it's really beautifully done. The craftsmanship is superb and the customer service was great too. I called them 1.5 week before the estimated completion time to see if I could put a rush on the order because I needed it sooner. Dan completed the work the day before and even called me to inform me that it was ready. That's great customer service in my book. And now my new old ring looks more beautiful than ever! My order this time also included another small repair and it was very well done too. We couldn't be happier with all the services we've received from this jeweler. When it comes to jewelry pieces they sell in the stores, I like some and dislike some others. That's just like with any other jeweler. Jewelry is a very personal thing and everyone has his/her own taste. But if you want great customer service and craftsmanship for your customer made jewelry, you won't be disappointed with this place. more

The Best Jeweler! 7/1/2011

I will only go to this jeweler! Kirk Root Designs is the place to go when you need anything done jewelry related. He not only treats you as family, he knows his business. I have never seen anyone take so much care in what he does. The entire staff is eager to take care of you, and will help with anything you need from that day on, even if it's just coming in and wanting a simple cleaning. They took the time to find something specific I was wanting, and still gave me the best price! more

C. Kirk Root Designs is a rare gem! 4/18/2011

C Kirk Root is in the Arboretum in Austin, TX. On Valentine's, my sweetheart surprised me by taking me to C Kirk Root Design to pick out a pearl necklace! He's very romantic and never lead on...just picked me up for lunch and took me on a shopping trip! I got flowers and chocolate, too! I love my pearl necklace and matching earrings. I love it so much, I was wearing it all the time and broke it when brushing my hair. I returned ii to the store and they repaired it for NO charge....that's service! I give this place a 5 star rating any day! I have been back since Valentine's day because they have so many unique items. There aren't too many specialty jewelers around Austin but if you like custom, specialty or unique items this is the place to go! more

Floating through air until... 10/15/2010

I will certainly try to let this not be completely emotional, but I'm almost positive some venom will seethe out. You know the moment you dream of when the leading man in your life says those magical words, ""Lets go look at rings""? Well, it finally happened for me. It wasn't a dream... not a fairytale, but alas it finally happened to ME, this girl. (You know the girl, always a bridesmaid never the bride, chuckles all around. I come home, mascara tear-smeared, and stuff my face with queso and Nabisco Pinwheels watching Friends until 3 a.m. Yeah, I'm that girl). So, imagine the glee-filled moment when the man of the house asks to go look at rings... you know the ring... the one symbolizing I'm his forever. Glowing with glee. And, that we did. We enjoy a good deal, the bargain-hunters, the Craigs-lister variety, yard-sale scavengers and cruise sites like Gilt, Etsy, Ideeli, etc. We want to know that we are getting more for our money and possibly finding items more unique than heading to the mainstream stores (think Zales and Jareds). I knew just of the place. C. Kirk Roots Designs, here in the Austin Arboretum, walking distance from my work is in complete liquidation mode, everything 20%-60% off of their prices. I peeked in first to make sure there was a reason to bring him along and sure enough, there was. I brought him in and upon first opinion, customer-service was at an all-time low. I don't get it. With this economy, these times, you can't spring for a cheery attitude and a fake smile? C'mon folks, not even for people willing to drop a few thousand dollars on an engagement ring and wedding band? Bad move. The sales associates seem to work against one-another rather than with/for one another... And, then there is Bruce. I have no idea what Bruce does. None. Is he a jeweler, a sales-associate, or just an abrasive jerk (so many other words would be fitting here) that has zero-social skills... apparently, the latter. The owner made the biggest mistake by allowing Bruce near clients. You do realize your sales associates are the face of the company?!? My boyfriend decided to drop this place like a bad habit and peruse a half a dozen other places. I, unfortunately, though couldn't stop thinking about the first ring I tried on at C. Kirk Root. We hesitantly went back. My leading man even said, ""I want you know, if you didn't like that ring so much, I would not give them our business."" The moment we walked in, we said, ""We do not want to be waited on my Bruce."" The other associates there at the time said something to the likes that he is harmless and from Boston. Well, Bruce... you are in Texas and some Southern manners need to be developed real quick, Sweetheart. We were waited on by Linda and she was as informative, as she was sincerely nice. She was extremely patient with us while answering a plethora of our questions. We decided that we were going to go with the ring that I haven't been able to stop thinking about since day 1. We put some cash down and put the ring on hold for him to call back and sort out the intricate details. Well, that's he did. And, guess what... because they are in liquidation mode they offer zero-forms of financing. And, honestly that really isn't that big of a problem for us. But, I can imagine that the inflexibility would put other couples in a pickle. My man offered 50% down (in cash), to pay the remaining balance of 50% in 60 days. Again, the answer was, ""No"". Nothing... 100% no wiggle room. And, why? Your store is in liquidation mode, which I can only imagine because of this economy and because your customer service is non-existent. Why would you turn your nose up at a guaranteed sale with business to grow. more

They saved the day 2/27/2010

We had beautiful custom made rose gold wedding bands made by Kirk Root. My wedding band matched the unique engagement rose gold engagement ring that was also purchased at Kirk Root. I have received many compliments on the unique style of the engagement ring. Unfortunately our wedding bands were stolen from our home weeks before we were to exchange the rings. Our insurance company informed us that we would not have our insurance settlement money in time to have the rings made again. We were very upset. I went to Kirk Root with the intention of buying their cheapest rings until we received our insurance settlement and could have our wedding bands re-made. The rings were very important. I already had an appointment to have my nails done so I could show off the rings. We already had a photographer booked to take pictures of our rings. Dan Schwieterman, the Goldsmith said that just would not do. Together Dan and Lori Dane the manager made an executive decision to go a head and authorize the rings to be made again and we could check them out for our special day and when the insurance company paid us we could pay them. I then started to cry tears of joy because we would have our rings and the robbery would not affect our special day. As it turned out, we were paid the same week that we needed to pick up our rings and were able to pay for them. Had we had to wait until we were paid by the insurance company, we would not of had our special rings and that day would have been spoiled by the robbery. Also, all our jewelry that was stolen had been appraised by Kirk Root and stood up to the highest dollar of the appraisal. The insurance company had sent Kirk's appraisals to a national appraising company and we were able to get top dollar for our appraisals so it means that is appraisals are very fair. We highly recommend Kirk Root Designs for all your jewelry needs including buying from the store's selection, having custom rings made and having the jewelry appraised! Pros: Tremendous customer service Cons: Sometimes the run out of free chocolate more

Texas' Best Jeweler 3/10/2009

When I moved to Austin in '96, I was hesitant about any new jeweler. Who to trust? Who really is fair? Who is knowledgeable? And then I met Kirk Root. I gotta tell ya, I am very impressed. Kirk has some of the best credentials in the country for appraisals, plus he is a nice guy AND honest as the day is long. Pros: Kirk, Honest, Knowledgeable, Fabulous Work, Great Quality Cons: usually on time with work and it can be later than expected.... (but it is custom) more

Don't let them talk you into something 11/14/2006

I went in to get my engagement ring re-sized, something I thought would be simple. Well, 3 weeks later, and very little customer support, I still don't have my ring back. They keep ""fixing"" it to the wrong size. How difficult can it be to fit my finger? They act like they know what they're talking about, but I have learned over the last few weeks that I should have gone with my gut and told them my size myself. Pros: Nice customer-facing staff, but they didn't make the decisions Cons: Jewelers assumed they knew what I wanted and didn't listen to me. Diamond was loose after 1 visit - they're lucky I didn't lose it. more
