We scheduled an appoinment with Ellis and he never showed. We left work early and drove 25 mins to meet him. When we called him, he claimed he was down in his back and couldn't find our # to call. When my husband called him on Monday he gave him our # and Ellis state yes I have the # on my phone. We all know that cell phones save #'s when people call, simple process of elimination. Needless to say he didn't seem to concerned about not having our business. And didn't even attempt to reschedule with us. Horrible business acumen. more

Ellis Bryan sold me a fence based on his promise of good post-work customer service. He told me about how he goes around to his customers and makes sure everything lasts. He even told me how I could purchase an automatic gate opener and install it myself and offered to help me do it... although he wasn't available when I did the work. Before I even installed the gate opener one of my gate posts started sagging and the two doors started overlapping in the middle. He sent his crew over early one morning (unannounced) and they chopped off part of the offending door so that they wouldn't touch anymore. Not an ideal solution, but it seemed to work... for about two weeks. Then the same door started overlapping again. This time it was obvious that the problem was a sagging gate post. When I called Ellis about it he said he was sending himself an email right then so he would remember to come by and check it out. A few weeks later after no response I sent him an email to which he replied ""I'm not touching that gate... It's been tampered with by someone who had no clue what they were doing."" It's a shame to have such a beautiful gate with such a fatal flaw and seemingly no customer support! Look elsewhere. more

Ellis Bryan brought his team to our duplex to replace the iron railing on our front porch with wood railing. Mr. Bryan explained that this particular job was slightly different than the type of fence work that he usually does (I think it had to do with the existing veranda and concrete landing), but he and his team handled the task masterfully. As form follows function, I can verify that the railing is solid and sturdy, and it looks great too! Mr. Bryan set his crew to work and left to oversee other jobs and/or fetch supplies, and the crew continued to work on their own (unsupervised) in a focused, professional way right up until they completed the job. The men were polite, friendly and quite skillful. As a former construction worker myself, I can verify that this kind of trustworthy labor is hard to find and highly valuable to both contractor and customer. Mr. Bryan himself is personable and professional. He is transparent in his business methods, knowledgeable in his field, expertly in his judgment and just a straightforward and friendly individual. I used this site to research a fence company. I looked at multiple companies and received five estimates. I have to admit I was initially skeptical of Bryan Fences because the reviews seemed almost too good to be true. I can now say this high praise is valid and well deserved. I spoke with Ellis over the phone who came out the next day to look at my property and provide me with an estimate. He was courteous and took the time to answer all of my questions (which there were many) and helped to informed me of what to look for when constructing a fence. I actually used this information to quiz the other companies and found out many were apparently skipping some of the minor details most certainly to save them time and protect their bottom line. I was very pleased to find out that despite this attention to detail this company was very competitively priced. The job was scheduled for just over two weeks out (sooner than most of my other estimates) and was actually finished ahead of schedule. The fence looks great and all that was promised was delivered. This level of professionalism was much appreciated because I have a relatively small lot in area code 37013. Some other companies seemed like they really did not want to be bothered with this type of job. I felt that this company valued my business and Ellis thanked me for it several times. We had a cyprus wood fence bulit in May of 2007 & Mr. Bryan went on & on about how cyprus wood is the strongest & best wood to build our fence out of. We put in the extra $$ for this fence & less than 4 months later, it looked awful. The posts have bent & made the fence crooked--it's looks like we've had the fence for 10 years & it's been less than a year. I don't recommend going for the more expensive wood-stick to the cheaper stuff--it will save you in the long run!!! more

Hi. I work for a major music organization in Nashville. We searched the city over to find the right fence for our office. When we found Ellis and his company, we were treated with respect and patience as we were not sure as to what type of fence was best for our property. Ellis helped us find a style that fit our building. It is absolutely amazing. The work was quick and efficient. Ellis was able to go around our schedule and was available to answer all our questions- and we had plenty. We never felt like we were pressured and always felt that he cared about what we wanted in our fence. He is a small family-oriented company that does wonderful, custom work. After reading the rave reviews and seeing this one rated as the best in Nashville, I phoned Ellis to inquire of fencing my new residence. Being new to Nashville, I didn't have anyone from whom to get recommendations. I left a message for Ellis explaining I'd selected him from his reviews on CitySearch. Being that I was out of town, Ellis returned the call and asked me to phone upon my return to Nashville. I did just that, leaving him a message again. After a couple of days with no return phone call, I phoned again. This time, Ellis answered the phone stating he was currently installing a wrought iron fence. He didn't seem to remember our last conversation and sounded as if he really wanted to get back to his fencing. He asked me if it was a small space to fence, saying, ""so what is it, like a 20 x 30 or something. I mean, really, is it worth my time to come out there and look at it?"" Well, how could I answer what was worth his time. I explained the area I was attempting to fence was a 150 x 80, at which point Ellis then told me he'd certainly like to come out and give an estimate. He stated he would phone me when he finished that afternoon. And to this date, a month later, I have never heard from Ellis again. And as highly as he is rated, I'd be an idiot to track down someone who didn't have the professionalism enough to return repeated phone calls. What makes this guy so great? Or is the expectations of Nashvillians that low? Not such a good experience from someone who is rated the ""best"" by CitySearch. What's the criteria for this sort of a rating?
