Great Rainy Day Enjoyment 2/1/2010

The Brooklyn Museum of Art is nothing short of the way most New Yorkers shpould spent a Sunday Afternoon. My girlfriend and I happened to attend on a day when it was a huge rainstorm which made it alittle crowded but it was certainly worth the wait on line for tickets.\r We came to see the ""Who Shot Rock & Roll"" Photography Exhibit which was amazing and really dipicted a great deal of Rock and Roll History but we were amazed at the other wings and pieces of art from all over the world. We were there about 3 hours total but could have easily spent a few more hours if it wasn't for a busy Monday the next day! This Museum has all the Bells & Whistles of MOMA and The MET in my opinion!\r \r Pros: Great Art, Great Layout, Easy to Find Exhibits, Cafeteria more

What a sight for Spring 1/5/2009

The Cherry Blossom Festival at the Brooklyn Museum was one of the most sublime displays I've seen. Celebrating Japanese poetry and philosophy, the festival delivers demonstrations from Martial Arts masters, poets, and artists as well as hundreds of cherry trees in full blossom. Pros: Beatiful festival, demonstrations, and cherry blossoms Cons: Parking more

phenomenal new entryway & stairs 7/10/2005

Pity that in 1934 the classic McKim, Mead & White grand staircase and entryway were demolished, a typical short-sighted manuever. But in recent years, a gorgeous new glass and steel staircase leading to a refurbished entryway has been erected. Polshek Partnership Architects got $63 million to redo it and create a landscaped plaza that draws the visitor towards the imposing museum. Great exhibits and now a worthy entrance! more

Brooklyn's Best 11/12/2002

The Brooklyn Museum of Art is an extraordinary museum that is at once a world class institution with remarkable holdings that have attracted acclaim from scholars and connoisseurs. At the same time it is very much a community based organization that serves Brooklyn residents through programs like First Saturdays. It also presents a wide variety of special exhibitions. Pros: great art, good programs, good parking Cons: front closed, cafeteria food more

Great Collections, Great Shows 5/14/2002

Though its profile has been steadily expanding over the past few years--a new addition to the front of the museum is currently physically expanding it too--The Brooklyn Museum is still pleasantly uncrowded compared to the Met. And it should be compared to the Met: If it were in any other city in the country, it would undoubtably be one of the chief cultural assets. There is an amazing collection of Egyptian antiquities, and the temporary exhibitions have become must-sees (whether because of controversy or artistic merit, or both). more

Museum Mile's Missing Marvel 5/12/2002

Hidden away in Brooklyn is one of New York's finest institutions. The Brooklyn Museum boasts a spectacular Egyptian collection, wonderful standing exhibits, imaginative shows, and an exciting community interaction/party the first Saturday of every month. All without taking the train into the city--and just steps from the Botanic Gardens. more
