Bait and switch company. Came in for an alternator replacement. $90 diagnostic charge he says will be waived if choose to have any work done. Fee was never waived. I knew I needed an alternator...that is why I brought the car to an auto shop in the first place, specifically one that specializes in Electrics! Fee was not waived. Same guy checked me in and checked me out 3 days later, with the same smile one his face he said $400++ ... For a $70 alternator and two bolts? He told me it came with a lifetime warranty, didn't specify if that was labor or just the part, but this made me feel better about paying so much $$. 1 year and a handful of days later, the alternator went out on me. No problem I says, lifetime warranty at Briggs. Once again I knew the alternator was out, I tested it my self this time. Brought it back, he says that he will take care of me. I come in the next morning, guy tells me ""you need a new alternator, that'll be about $380"" Said he was giving me a discount since I had been in before. Once again this is the same guy who told me he would waive a $90 inspection fee, and that the alternator had a lifetime warranty. Neither of which turned out to be true. He said it had a 1 year warranty, and I was literally less than a week past my 1 year. So ironic, doesn't the warranty always expire right before something starts to fail. Ended up charging me $35 to tell me ONCE AGAIN that my alternator was bad. Terrible practice. Bait and Switch. Since my experience at Briggs; I have changed career paths and now work as customer service for a small family owned automotive repair shop. I was so disgusted by the way I was treated, I decided I would make it my life goal to ensure people have a choice for auto repair, and do not have to deal with shady business practices like this. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 5/22/2013

Sorry inadvance for the following novel, but I think people should really get a feel for the way this shop handles its business before taking their vehicle here.\r \r Just as the other reviewer, I feel I was lied to repeatedly. I dropped my truck off Monday, 5/20/13, after making an appointment the previous week to have a switch wired to LED accent lighting in my headlights. The person I spoke to in person when I dropped it off on Monday, Chris, told me that they were super busy (although I had an appointment) and he hoped to work on my truck that afternoon, and would call me with a quote for the work shortly. I told him if he thought he could do it, to also give me a quote to hook up the ballasts/wiring harness for the HID's that were going in the headlights. He said the work I had described to him and shown him would be no problem and pretty straightforward. I never received a phone call Monday and ended up leaving my truck there overnight.\r \r Fast forward to Tuesday morning, I call Briggs and ask to speak to Chris to find out the status of my truck. Ed, the person I spoke to over the phones exact words were "" Chris had a dentist appointment that nobody knew about, but should be in to work any minute. I'll have him call you as soon as he gets in."" I never receive said phone call and had to call THEM back at 4:30 only to be told by Ed that Chris had gone home sick for the day. I was also told that my truck had not been touched. Not wanted to continue talking on the phone and wanting to speak to someone in person, I told Ed that I would be there when the shop opened on Wednesday.\r \r Which brings me to today, 5/22/13. I showed up at 8:00 am just as the shop was opening and ran into Chris and Ed both. When asked why my truck had not been touched and why I hadn't received and updates at all, Chris said ""well I told you I would get you an update"" and walked away. I actually had to follow him out into the shop to continue talking. When asked again what had taken place the previous days and why I hadn't been contacted or the truck worked on, all I was given was ""sorry"" When asked what the estimate on time would be to have the original wiring done + the HID's/harness, I was told 3.5 hours. 3.5 hours at $95.00/hour. That cost would have been half of what I payed for the lights themselves.\r \r After hearing how much it was going to cost, I told Chris/Ed to forgo the HID/harness and just do the original wiring as planned. Once I said this Chris said he was too busy to work on it and didn't know when he could get to it. I asked if he was just mad now that he wasn't going to get as much money to do the shorter/simpler job, I was told that I should take my truck somewhere else. When pressed why he had time to do a 3.5 hour job and not a shorter one, Chris said he could do it but it ""would only be half assed, because that's all the time you're giving me"", and if I left it until FRIDAY, he'd ""see if he could get to it.""\r \r Sooo, you have time to do a 3.5 hour job, but anything less and suddenly you're booked and don't know when you can get to it? Nevermind the fact that I had an APPOINTMENT on MONDAY to have it worked on, and it never was. I told both Chris and Ed that this was BS, and that had screwed me out of 2.5 days when I was on a timeline and could have had it done elsewhere.\r \r Needless to say I go my truck and left, and ended up taking it to shop just down the block. After explaining to the manager what had happened, he told me that this wasn't the first time he'd had customers complain to him how they were treated at Briggs, and his own God mother OWNS BRIGGS! He quoted me an 1.5 hours tops, and as of right now my truck should be finished this afternoon.\r \r Moral of the story, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SHOP TO ANYONE. more

TEN STAR SERVICE 9/22/2011

We were devastated when our car didn't pass the DEQ test. After careful search, we picked Briggs Auto to look at our car. The mechanics are ""DEQ certified"" and we found the sales staff to be professional and helpful. We are two ""old ladies,"" sisters who are not very car savvy. But after looking online for information about our problem, we were pleased that Briggs employee Scott confirmed what we knew. No doubletalk and, in fact, all the staff at Briggs Auto went the extra mile for us. (My sister just said, ""They went an extra TEN miles for us."") We are happy to have found an honest shop with knowledgeable and caring experts. We hope we never again have car trouble but if (when) we do, they are our mechanics of choice. more
