I had a group dinner at Bosco's Cafe in Mandeville, La yesterday afternoon. I was part of a group consisting of approximately 15 people....we were celebrating a friend's wedding. I was not very hungry, and am on a tight budget, and had looked at the menu and had decided on a light, economical repast. As soon as we were all seated our server, ID 5 (I have the receipt), came to the table and asked for our drink requests, then proceeded to TELL us what we would be served (no one had placed an order), in what sequence this would arrive at the table, and then told us that we would each be charged $25.00!!!!!! Of course, being with a large group, I did not complain or say anything as I had no wish to embarrass myself in front of my friends.....I have a suspicion that other ladies felt the same way. The food was regular Italian....egg plant casserole served in large servers with utensils to dole it onto our empty plates, shrimp served the same way............then came large platters of lasagna with other large utensils to serve ourselves onto our empty plates. Dessert was a canole. I didn't wait for dessert as I was upset by this entire method of serving dinner at a restaurant................I HAVE NEVER BEEN SUBJECTED TO AN 'INTIMIDATED"" GROUP FEEDING AT ANY RESTAURANT BEFORE.....AND I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN!!
I left early and was doubly shocked to get an invoice for $32.63 for food I had not personally ordered, for having to share serving utensils with other people, and for being denied (by psychological intimidation......who would speak out and say they really couldn't afford something in front of all their professional friends???) my personal choice of the menu. Also, the server told us it would be $25.00.....I don't think I was charged $7.00 for tax!!!! I charged this, left no tip, and left, very upset. This evening I decided to do something about it...........if possible I would e mail Bosco's itself, but I do not have their e mail address.
I will never eat there again, and I will never recommend this place to anyone again............I have never been subjected to such intimidation by a server and a restaurant..........it must be the policy of Bosco's to embarrass their patrons, when in a large group (for their convenience, of course) and TELL them what they're going to eat and how they're going to eat it and how much they're going to pay for it!!! I hope you let Bosco's know about this. My receipt is dated 5/5/09, and the check out time is 18:55:37..........much earlier than the rest of my group.
If possible I would appreciate receiving Bosco's e mail address.
Oh, by the way, the food was nothing special and definitely not worth $32.63!!
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Group dinner through public intimidation
