Books on Ninth CLOSED, moved to Munich Germany 10/25/2006

Books on Ninth recently closed it's doors and moved to Munich Germany where they have the largest selection of 2-hand English books in Germany. Email from John & Lisa Browner, Books on Ninth: "This past February, we opened the largest English-language secondhand-book shop in Germany (2nd largest in Europe, after a shop in Amsterdam) in Munich, a place we've often visited and come to love. We're pleased to say that the The Munich Readery has been a rousing success from Day One. more

good stuff 8/19/2005

The store sells a good selection of quality discount books, bestsellers, off-the-wall books, arts writings, gay and lesbian studies, and cultural studies sections. Books on Ninth is a books-only haven for those seeking a good read. Used books are well-organized in a maze of tall shelves, making it easy to find your favorite section painlessly. Good selections in social sciences/culture and fiction. more

Nice little store 8/16/2005

Located near the bigger (non-used bookstore) Regulator Bookstore, Books on Ninth has a nice selection of used books. One of the few store I go into and ALWAYS buy something. Last time I went in I spent about $9 and came out with 4 books. Nice selection of science fiction and fantasy books! pet friendly, too. more

Independent Bookstore 7/8/2005

This is one of the few independent bookstores in the area. They do quite a lot with author readings, interesting book discussions, and other social activities. If I lived in Durham, I would no doubt visit on a much more regular basis. As it is their email newsletter is quite informative and very avant garde. Their children's section is good, as is their literature selection. I was disappointed in their science fiction / fantasy selection though, as it is really nothing you can't get elsewhere and the selection is limited. One really remarkable section is their cards / newspaper / journal section. They even have handmade cards from local artists. Definitely a place to visit, but find your sci fi fix elsewhere. more
