This is one of the few independent bookstores in the area. They do quite a lot with author readings, interesting book discussions, and other social activities. If I lived in Durham, I would no doubt visit on a much more regular basis. As it is their email newsletter is quite informative and very avant garde. Their children's section is good, as is their literature selection. I was disappointed in their science fiction / fantasy selection though, as it is really nothing you can't get elsewhere and the selection is limited. One really remarkable section is their cards / newspaper / journal section. They even have handmade cards from local artists. Definitely a place to visit, but find your sci fi fix elsewhere.
