Outdoors + pitchers of Czech beer=great! 9/12/2002

The Beer Garden is great fun...the outdoors setting is truly a joy, and there's plenty of room to sit on the dozens of picnic tables. You can even go there when it's raining lightly, as the side tables are beneath an overhang. The selection of Czech/European beers is quite nice and also affordable if you get pitchers. The menu has many traditional Czech/German-type choices, and there's also a decent amount of vegetarian choices. Live bands play here sometimes, although I haven't gone to those events. Overall, the Beer Garden is great, long live outdoor Beer Gardens! Pros: great atmosphere, inexpensive, outdoors more

OVERRATED 7/30/2002

Bohemian Beer Hall is Quality Astoria 7/17/2002

Pay no mind to the bad reviews about the Bohemian Hall...this is a great place for New York beer-drinkers. Domestic and import beer is $4 and comes in a Britannia mug (20oz) and the garden out back is fantastic on a summer night - lots of picnic tables in an open space, secluded from 24th Avenue, where you can sit as far or close to the crowd as you'd like. It's a Czech pub but you won't feel left out; the bartender will recommend a good Prague beer if you ask. The patrons are there to chat (not watch the game) and I can see how this could become a disgustingly trendy hot-spot in the years to come...but for now, it's my kind of place. Pros: 20 oz for $4, large beer garden, can't get too crowded more

For a good time...... 6/20/2002

The Bohemian Hall Beer Garden is a great place to eat or to just have a few drinks. The Bohemian Hall is unique in a way that it's one of the last Beer Gardens in NYC. On a cool summer night, sitting in the Beer Garden, will bring you back in time to when this is how all ""bars"" used to be. The Bohemian Halls menu is diverse. The food is delicious and the service is great! Pros: inexpensive, social, outside seating more

A secret oasis 6/18/2002

The Beer Garden is the best place in this city to hang out, listen to great Czech, Greek, Jazz or whatever the live music of the day is, and relax. It's an authentic European type atmosphere. Their grill is the best (try the sausages!), the beer is always perfect, and the bartenders are just fine. Too many Manhattanites flock here in the summer which sucks a little, but luckily its a huge park. This place is equally fun in the winter sitting inside! Pros: Beer, Garden, people Cons: none, none, none more

Fun with friends 6/3/2002

worthwhile going towards the end of the summer - good food, good beer, and fun music. Nothing spectacular but a fun place in general. more

the best got better 5/29/2002

Went again over Memorial Day weekend. Pleasantly surprised to encounter the 20th annual Czech / Slovak Festival. Great food, great beer as usual and great looking women! Super beer garden can't be topped on a nice weeekend afternoon. Everyone was very friendly and jovial, and no, I don't speak Czech. Make sure you try the ""Becherovka"". Kind of a higher octane Jagermeister. Can't wait to go back!! Pros: atmosphere, drinks, food more
