Best

This is a great historic place to get a late night meal.

I don't think I have ever ordered something that tastes good here. I suppose there is some nostalgia asscociated with this restaurant but I have no idea how it got a 9.3. The fo...

Overrrated Restaurant 3/27/2006

I tried Bob's Big Boy after reading the rave reviews about their chili spaghetti and burgers. Well, I tried both. Didn't like either. Chili just doesn't go well with spaghetti. And the hamburger, well, let's say I've had better (e.g. Astro Burger). Don't buy the hype with this place. Cons: Average-Tasting Food, Expensive more

Distinctive Ambience; So-So Food 3/27/2006

Bob's Big Boy is worth a one-time visit (if you leave nearby) just because it is supposed to be an American landmark. I tried the chili spaghetti, after reading the positive reviews of it, but didn't like it too much. The double meat patty burger wasn't that great either. I don't plan on coming back to this place. Pros: Ambience Cons: Average-Tasting Food more

I tried Bob's Big Boy after reading the rave reviews about their chili spaghetti and burgers. Well, I tried both. Didn't like either. Chili just doesn't go well with spaghetti. And the hamburger, well, let's say I've had better (e.g. Astro Burger, Fatburger, Carl's Jr. 0.99 burger, Burger King's Jr. Whopper). Don't buy the hype with this place. Great Value 1/1/2006

The food here is incredibly good, as is the service, and all at a reasonable price. This is also one of the few places left where you can get a good malt anymore. They even have car hop service and a drive-through on certain nights. Note: This particular Bob's Big Boy is owned and operated by the original family, that started the big boy chain. This store is fantastic and definetely worth a visit. But be aware that all Bob's Big Boys are not like this one. This is the only original one left. Pros: Food, Price, 50's Vibe more

Great Old-Time Burger Joint 12/7/2005

I've been going here since I was in college in the late 50's/early 60's and still love going here. I usually stick to the classic burger, fries and malt. I really love the classic look of the place, too. Pros: burgers and malts, price, ambiance more

Run for your money 11/13/2005

This was the very place I stopped at my first time in Los Angeles. It was 4pm, so there was no line and no wait. I ordered the Chili Spaghetti which was alright, but my friend ordered a Big Boy burger and it is -- to this day -- the best burger in its price range that I've ever had. I also ordered a banana shake which I could not finish. I love Bob's Big Boy and constantly beg my mom to go there with me when we're in LA. The restaurant has a very kitschy, retro feel to it and it beats Mel's by far. more

we give up! 10/6/2005

we were raised on bobs! when the one in our town closed we began the long trek to this bobs. over the past year we have been dissappointed many times. at first we kept going back thinking ""oh it cant be that bad this time"" but something worse would happen. our main complaint is the service- i could write pages about all of the things that have happened. one server refused to serve a child because she ""looked to old"". one server not only interupts when you order but he walks away before you can finish, never brings the condiments you ask for , and once he even did not bring out me and my husbands order at all! we really wish we could go back but it is not worth the drive. not all of the servers are bad but the few who are really stand out :( Cons: bad service more

Every Birthday my choice 6/14/2005

Fun Nostalgia. I always must have the great Big Boy Combo. The very Best Hot Fudge Cake EVER, no other restaurant compares, though one cannot have a Big Boy Combo and fit in a Hot Fudge Cake in the same visit, way too much food. Spliting the Hot Fudge Cake makes it feasible, or come just for the treat at another time. Good prices, usually a 10 Spot will about cover it, minus the tip that is appropriate for the pleasant service. As stated, order Blue Cheese Dressing though on the side, and dip the soft Fries in the extra dressing. Yum. Go at 4:45 PM on week-nights for speed. Pros: Consistant Quality, Value Cons: Parking on Fri. Ngt more

Bob's gets an ""A"" in history. 6/10/2005

Bobs gets an A. Bobs big boy dateline: Burbank, California. Bobs makes history again by recovering its A rating in the window Thursday in time for the Friday night Car sho thats taken place in the parking lot for more than 50 years. Bobs has been a ""State Historical place of interest"" since 1993 and has been featured in several documentaries because of its 1940's Wayne McAllister architectural design. Pros: great location, historical landmark, Architecture Cons: busy, crowds, too much fun more

Cruisin' 6/5/2004

Bob's Big Boy has been a hang out since the 50's. Those who were too cool for school would gather to show off their hot-rods and discover the latest auto mods everynight before and after cruising Van Nuys Boulevard in a parade of over-the-top lead sleds. The food is the same now as it was then: burgers and fries with shakes so thick they had to be eaten with a spoon. Bob's is the last of it's breed and a thowback to post-war Southern California. Pros: nostalgia, nostalgia, nostalgia more

Worth The Wait! 4/14/2004

My husband and I have been coming to the Burbank Bob's for two years now all the way from Mission Viejo! (southern tip of Orange County!) My husband loves the Chili Spagetti and I of course love the Original Big Boy Combo! The atmosphere is great and the old pics on the wall make for great lookey-loo-ing around this L.A landmark! Yes, you have to wait for a table, but I suppose that is an indication in itself on how much people STILL love Big Boy! In-N-Out may be the best ""fast"" food burger, but nothing beats the Original Big Boy Combo! :) Pros: Great atmosphere!, Great Food!, Friendly Service! more

Love the food, Hate the croud 5/21/2003

Need I say more?? On a good day you wait 30 minutes for a table to find out that they skipped your name about 15 minutes ago. And then when you do get seated you don't see your server for another 10 minutes and you wont be seeing your food for another 40. God i hate this place. more

A bit of Burger Nostalgia 1/1/2003

I would have to say Bob's food, not necessarily great, probably borders somewhere between good and very good. I've eaten at various Bob's for more than 30 years. The nostalgic atmosphere and the experience together is what makes Bob's the happening that it is today. Toluca Lake Bob's has classic cars on Fri. nites and car hop service Fri. and Sat. nites again. But for those who don't see the light about Bob's, I guess they wouldn't see the light about any restaurant. Cheers to the ""Original Double Deck Hamburger""! Pros: Nostalgic Atmosphere, Classic BigBoy Burger, Bob's Blue Cheese Cons: Crowded at mealtime, Wkend parking jammed, Long wait when crowd more

Great classic experience 12/19/2002

This has got to be the best coffee shop around. I love this place for breakfast and its not bad for a classic burger and fries. Great milkshakes. Take the family to Bobs for a classic experience. more

Carhop service, gotta love it! 9/10/2002

I've been going to Bob's since I was a little kid and if anything it's gotten better. The menu has grown to include more choices like veggie burgers (which are really good!), healthy salads, etc. And they have the best onion rings I've ever had--just the right amount of grease and taste. The weekend has retro carhop service, which is so much fun, and the Friday car show has brought out the likes of Jay Leno more than a few times. more

Just As I Remember 8/13/2002

I frequent the Bob's in Walnut/Diamond Bar now. I hadn't been there since I was a kid, and when I found out there was one there, I rushed over there as fast as I could. It was just as I remeber it. The smell of fried chicken wafting through the air, smelling just as it did when I was a kid. The burgers are still great. The value is good too. You won't go poor eating at Bob's. Pros: good food, good value, good service Cons: not close enough, needs later hours more

Good Enough for The Beatle's 7/8/2002

Americana. This joint is filled with hungry and happy customers, all piling in American classics like hamburgers and fries, Chicken Fried Steak(order it), meatloaf sandwiches and chili. The food here is good, not great, but something about the atmosphere and the comfort factor of the food make it a great experience. If you're into classic cars, visit Bob's on a Friday night and you'll be in heaven. Bob's is a great place to take a group. Ask to be seated in the ""beatle's booth."" more

Was Great in the 50's.... 6/28/2002

but if the burgers were the same I could still rate this place great. But somehow when the car hops disappeared and they took the mascot down the food went too. I've have tried the Original Big Boy with fries several times over the last year to see if it was just my imagination, but no, they are not the same. I'd rather just remember the way it used to be when we would sit in line for a hour or more just waiting to get a spot to park our car & eat off of trays attached to our windows. Those were the good old days and the good old burgers with a Cherry coke. Pros: Parking okay Cons: Poor quality food more

Out of pie? 6/13/2002

The last time I went to Bob's Big Boy, I ordered pie. They were out of that kind, so I ordered another. The waitress comes back and says she's out of that. I order another. They're out. I asked them what they did have, and it was one old looking piece of something that looked completely unappetizing. I haven't gone back. more
