Worth the Drive 12/11/2005

I live in Huntington and have been to many salons from here to SC and til now havent been able to find a salon or stylist where Im comfortable AND dont get butchered. Christina gave me the best haircut Ive had. She used different scissors and some razor thing and explained to me why ""texture"" is so important. Then she hooked me up with a wax that lasts all day without making my hair greasy or gel looking. No one's ever been able to get my hair right and she was on point. Toolbox stations and good music and tattoo and truck magazines! I'll make the drive every time. Pros: comf. atmosphere, hot girls, edgy style Cons: none here more

Always a great experience 11/14/2005

I usually have a hard time getting my hair cut because I'm never sure what I want it to look like, but every time I come here I'm satisfied. The stylists ask me tons of questions about what I like and don't like, and end up doing something amazing. All while offering me free beverages. Love the late hours too. The only thing is the parking--I've no idea where to do it. I usually go up the hill at the light right east of the place and park on the street there. Pros: service, talent Cons: parking more

Aladdin: my new hairstylist! 10/17/2005

I loved Blue Velvet where I met Aladdin, my new stylist, who was not only friendly and patient but he also was a darn good stylist who truly listened to me. A+ Aladdin and Blue Velvet 10/9/2005

If you're looking for a great salon without BH pretense or prices, this is it! I took a chance based on other reviews here and I'm so glad I did. Aladdin gave me quite possibily the best haircut of my life. At 8 months pregnant, I feel attractive again!!!! Need I say more? Also the best Velvet Elvis ever in the bathroom. Aside from the best haircut/style I've ever received, this fun hip salon is just cool. From local artists featured on their walls, to a friendly staff you can't go wrong. After Christina cut my hair, no on else gets a chance! Parking is the only downside, however, if you're not there at the LA ""Lunch"" rush or after work rush, then you should be okay (you may have to walk a block or two). Best Facial Ever! 6/1/2005

My skin is so soft and clean, and I love my hair after going to Blue Velvet. Katrina, the owner, did my hair, and she was so knowledgeable and patient because I wasn't quite sure what I wanted. She helped me pick a color that flattered my complexion, and gave me a cut I just love. I'm so glad I just left it all up to her. I also had a glycolic peel and facial on my chest and face. My skin looks radiant, and I've received so many compliments today. Seriously, my skin feels so soft, if I did't know I was 50+, I'd think I was in my 20's by the way my skin feels this evenong. Thank you Gwen and Katrina!!!!! Pros: I was surprised at the price. Seems like everyone is raising their prices, so I was grateful their prices were so reasonable. Cons: Parking can be a little tight sometimes, but you can always use the Valet at Wine Bistro. more

Katrina, the owner of Blue Velvet is a rare talent. She has a gift for creating a style to suit the personality as well as the lifestyle of her clients be they young or more mature. Her versatility ranges from the more outlandish to the more consevative and anything in between. She also has a genius for customizing color to work perfectly with an individual's skin tone so as to look beautifully natural. She is delighted to create the outrageous too if desired, and the color is always consistent. Every time I leave her chair I looks great. Her salon is a clean, streamlined space which is also warm and comfortable, filled with original artwork and little touches of Katrina's personal style throughout. The smell of custom made candles subtly fill the air, and a varied mixture of music rounds out the senses. I highly recommend Blue Velvet to anyone. more

I have been with Katrina for 7 years and I have never been disappointed-she is talented, she listens when you tell her what your ""hair"" concerns are and always comes up with the appropriate solution!!! There is not a better person for color or cut- she is skilled in women's and men's styles, and her warm caring way makes everyone feel comfortable and secure. I have been going to Shanna for about three years before she moved to Blue Velvet Salon. I love Shanna because she is the best hair cutter I have ever had. Not only does she do exactly what I ask for she is always offering new ideas and keeping me up to date. She is also a great colorist too! A total wiz with highlighting! Im so glad she moved to Blue Velvet, it is such a great open space with it's high vaulted ceilings and amazing, ever-changing art on the walls, I feel like I am in an edgy Silverlake salon right in the Valley! Funky, hip, happy vibe! 4/6/2005

I saw this really cool retro sign for a new salon on Ventura one day and was intrigued to check it out. With a name like Blue Velvet I had to! I am so glad I did! I am a natural red head and affraid to color my hair. Not only did Katrina the owner Brighten my hair she even added a few funky pieces here and there to spice it up! She said the streaks would fade with time and they did. I got a couple of months of fun! She put my mind at ease right away. The vibe is friendly with no aires put on. Great music too! Everyone was young and hip and friendly. I even got my brows done from Victoria and she was awesome! The price was competitve and I got what I wanted and then some!! Great experience 4/6/2005

My experience at Blue Velvet was an exceptional one. The decor of the salon is a cool, ""industrial meets retro"" design, but not so trendy that the ""Average Jane"" customer will feel intimidated. My stylist consulted with me at length about a new hairstyle that would not only suit my face, but suit my lifestyle as well. But what I appreciated most was ""less is more"" attitude of my stylist, cutting my hair in small increments, stopping to see if I was happy with the result yet -- as she said, ""We can always cut off more later -- let's check to see how this looks first."" Having fallen victim to ""hack jobs"" in the past, this new approach was refreshing and quite a relief! I will definitely be returning to Blue Velvet and can highly recommend it to anyone. more
