Very Disapponting 7/26/2011

This used to be my favorite restaurant when I lived in Plymouth. I recently returned for the summer (and will be coming back every year) and took a friend there for dinner. The food was extremely disappointing. I ordered seared tuna with sir fried vegetables and received a grey piece of fish on a soggy mess of vegetables swimming in a salty sauce. My friend's dinner was only slightly better -- overcooked fish on a small heap of (tasty) mashed potatoes. Both plates looked ""slapped together"" and not very appetizing. At the prices, I expected more -- we will scratch this restaurant off our list. more

A Great Place and a Solid ""Very Good"" 10/18/2010

My wife and I went here for the first time on our anniversary. My wife does not eat red meat, but loves seafood. We were both very impressed. more

They live up to their name. 8/12/2007

It was a dark and stormy night . . .. Actually, it was. Saturday, 11 August. Rain, lightning. But our group of five was happily indoors, quite dry (until the martinis and wine arrived). Our appetizers were the ubiquitous fried calamari, Dungeness crab cakes, and seared scallops with polenta. While ubiquitous, the calamari were among the best we've had, and the scallops were very nicely done, with the polenta a nice touch. My wife and I lived in Seattle for a time and frequently partook of the joys of Dungeness crab which we regard as slightly superior to the eastern blue crab. The crab cakes here, 1700 miles east, were outstanding, as was the sauce. (A quibble: it's advertised as fresh, but it can't be at this time of year.) The Caesar salad is advertised as assertively garlicly, which is precisely the way I like it. The table bread was certainly edible, but many restaurants have better. Now for the entrees: three people got the shellfish saffron risotto, of which I had a taste. It was very good, but short of the pinnacle of the risotto art achieved by Pazzaluna in St Paul. Another had the Dungeness cioppino. She was too busy slurping the broth, her head almost in the bowl, to comment. Actions spoke louder than words. My entree was roasted monkfish with chorizo. A nicely sized piece of a fish not frequently found on local menus, very tasty. Alas, perhaps since I didn't get a dessert, my memory of the others' comments on the final course has vanished. The service was a bit slow but didn't descend to the level of serious annoyance. The server did seem rather humorless but certainly not unfriendly. The ambience is very pleasant. Notwithstanding its Wayzata location, I detected no pretension whatever on the part of either patrons or staff. In fact, on this hot, humid, and stormy evening, many were wearing shorts including the author of these words. For the seafood lover, this is a very good destination in the Metro area to satisfy such a craving. Pros: Aquatic provender Cons: Nothing serious more

Great food and customer service 7/9/2007

Awesome world class food, super customer service, lots of TLC inspired me to submit my first foodie feedback post ever. Our uncle had a stroke recently, and though it makes it hard for him to get out of the house, it did not impair his desire for seafood. I called Blue Point and learned we could pick up anything on their menu to go. The large scallops were gently browned and tenderly DIVINE. They were served with a heavenly sauce and whipped potatoes topped with crisped onions. I did not know scallops could taste so wonderful. The halibut was lovingly nestled with whipped sweet potatoes. The salmon was grilled and dressed up with capers, tomatoes (was that cilantro sliced super thin?) to deliciously and boldly complement the halibut and scallops. I've traveled and eaten great food around USA, France (including Paris, Beaune, et al), Italy and Israel. I stand by my statement that our food from Blue Point was world class quality and flavor did not suffer (just totally yummy) after transporting it a hop-and-a-skip to our appreciative uncle. When food is prepared with love we can taste it. The highest compliment I can pay is that we could taste the love. Thank you, Blue Point, for sharing your love of food with folks who have physical challenges, and still love delicious food. more

Great Bar... Good Fish... Pip-Squeek Sized Lobster 7/5/2006

In short, they have fine fish, a great bar, and they are right off Lake Minnetonka. They have disappointing sized lobsters. Pros: Great Bar, Good Fish, Close to Lake Minnetonka Cons: Runt Lobsters more

A Poor Man's Oceanaire 11/9/2005

Well, not a poor man, a less well off man. This is a restaurant that fills the gap between the Outbacks and the $100-a-plates. The service was great, even if timing was a little off (gaps between appetizer/salad, and salad/entree), and the food was flavorful. My shrimp tasted fresh, as did my wifes snapper, and the house specialty dessert, key lime pie, was great. The wine list was impressive, and the calamari (with aioli) was VERY good. And we walked out for about $50 each (with appetizer, entrees, salads, potato and glass of wine). The ambience was in keeping with the rest, and very reminiscent of Oceanaire (except for the occasional train across the street, visible out the window). One comment on a previous review This restaurant doesnt serve lunch, so there is no $10 sandwich. Pros: Food, Service, Value Cons: Timing, View (Disappointing) more

Great Food and Service . . . Good Locale 6/5/2005

If they would knock down some of those buildings across the street, this place would also have an excellent view of Lake Minnetonka! Expect a selection of a half-a-dozen or so fresh seafood and oyster choices (they vary somewhat every day) in adition to all the seafood restaurant standards. Everything is prepared exceptionally well and the service staff is quite competent. Granted, there are many FANCIER locales. . . but I'd rather not pay for high rent and upholstery. Probably the best Calamari in town. A little batter, crisply fried. And if you call ahead with special requests, they will do their utmost to comply. The bar gets a little boisterous most nights and especially on Fridays. That makes for a noisy meal if you are in the nearby dining room. But if you prefer peace and quiet, just ask for another room. Pros: Menu Choices, Locale, Good Parking more

Best Happy Hour In Town! 2/5/2003

Clamari is tender because it's fresh, not frozen. Happy hour has calamari, mussels and 4-5 other dishes for around $5. Great atmosphere; quiet without being pretentious--teriffic dining rooms, great place to meet and talk. The food is always well prepared and the fish fresh. Pros: Happy hour, freshly prepared, friendly service Cons: portions too big more
