Editorial review from Citysearch 4/16/2013

Don’t bother! My boyfriend and I had a Groupon so were pretty psyched to try Bluefin, especially since they are right down the street from our place. The restaurant was dark and pretty sparse on décor but the service was friendly at first. We were seated at tiny table, but should have requested for a booth since there was plenty of available seating.\r Our server was friendly and even let me make a substitution. However my boyfriend was not given a spoon with his soup. I ordered a salad and rather clumsily ate it with my chop sticks. When the server finally came back to check on us, my boyfriend’s soup was already cold. She very haughtily told us she would have to go wash a spoon since patrons rarely asked for them? She wasn’t very nice, but we were optimistic about our main courses since we had been waiting quite a while and there were only a few other diners there.\r More disappointment arrived with the food. Our portions were skimpy to say the least. I ordered the Spider roll and was supposed to get 8 pieces. I only got 5 and had to ask for some ginger. My boyfriend ordered some combo, basically a tiny assortment of 4 different items, none of which had any seasoning or flavor.\r We were ready to leave! The bill was only $23.95 so our Groupon left us with an out of pocket of $3.95 plus gratuities. When our snooty waitress finally came over to pick up the check she let us know they only accept cards for transactions over $10 !!! My boyfriend and I looked at each other stunned. Neither of us carries cash. At that point the waitress made a point of telling us they charge of whopping 50 cents for anything under. It was getting comical, then awkward as the waitress handed my card back to me and walked way? Since I always keep a $20 bill in my car I just ran out and got it.\r When the waitress returned the check again she left a 1 dollar bill, 2 fives and five, yes that’s right FIVE pennies which went flying everywhere when I opened the book. Uh, was it something I said? I really felt like leaving her the dollar and pennies, but I’m a woman of principle, so I left her a generous $5 (over 20%) tip and decided to leave a poor review instead.\r Just to re-cap:. The décor is boring. The service is slow and downright insulting. The portions are skimpy and the flavor is blan. Unless you like cheap food and bad service, I would avoid Bluefin. more

Run from Bluefin like it's the plague!!! 7/2/2011

My husband and I are not experienced sushi eaters and have driven by this sushi restaurant several times and finally decided to stop in. Big mistake! When we sat down my husband asked what kind of beer they served and the waitress pointed to the wall where five or six beer bottles sat and said ""is it up there?"" and had no idea what they were. When he ordered a Sapporo she brought a warm glass to pour the beer into which was also room temperature. We ordered two different kinds of rolls and the nigiri octopus. When we got our first roll the presentation was terrible. The pieces were falling apart and looked like they were all rolled one at a time. Nowhere on the menu did it hint to the fact that they had imitation crab in the rolls which my husband hates. The nigiri octopus was a very thick cut and hard to chew. My husband had to actually spit it out. After a few bites we decided to cancel the rest of our order and cash out. When we told them that the beer was warm and that we didn't like the imitation crab the cashier said that we should have asked for real crab. When we canceled our second roll the chef glared at us and dramatically threw away the roll. We paid $28.00 for a warm beer and a horrible sushi roll. We have eaten at several really good sushi restaurants in Portland and Seattle and have always had a good experience. We even occasionally make our own with friends but we will never go back to this restaurant!! We went right around the corner to Sinju Sushi at Clackamas Town Center and it was 100 times better. more

Blue Fin Sushi Bar on 82nd Ave. 5/27/2011

I went to Blue Fin Sushi tonight with a coupon from Restaurantdotcom. I was happy to see that Blue Fin Sushi had recently joined the Restaurantdotcom family. I took my 12 year old nephew who really likes sushi. Between the two of us, our bill was about $45.00. That's $45.00 for sushi only-we drank water. When the bill came and I gave the waitress the coupon, she wouldn't honor it. That's right, the restaurant wouldn't honor the Restaurantdotcom coupon. They said that the owner is now only honoring the Restaurantdotcom coupon on Mondays. Today is Friday. The owner was not there for me to have a conversation with. I have never heard of any place, anywhere only honoring a coupon for one day out of the week. Crazy!! I will never, ever go back!! This is horrible customer service! This leaves a negative mark not only for this restaurant, but for Restaurantdotcom also!! They should not be allowed to change the terms of the contract and stick it to the consumer. I haven't been this mad in a really long time. This was extremely embarrassing for me. The owner is insane to drive business away. The negative press that they will receive with these shenanigans will kill any profits they hope to make!!\r \r I will say that the waitress was very nice and apologetic, her hands were tied and couldn't make any concessions for us. more

Disappointing 2/20/2010

I saw something on Food Network about fried shrimp heads and decided to see if they made them and try the new restaurant at the same time. I was told that they normally only came with the raw (sweet) shrimp but they would make them for me anyways. The menu was over priced but the decor was nice and so I added to my order. The small Saki was about the price of a large in normal restaurants. The sushi rolls came stuck together with the loose end that should have been cut off and so not a good sushi presentation. When the check came they charged me 5.00 for two shrimp heads! I questioned it but they didn't change the bill. They just said that I should have ordered the shrimp cooked another way, but that's not what I was told and it was never offered. The Miso soup came out of a packet. You can tell if you know your Miso. I told them that I wouldn't be back, but what they don't understand for a new restaurant is that for over a 3.00 difference in shrimp/heads, my professional friends won't go there either. Pros: The option for Dungeness in their sushi rolls Cons: Price vs quality and presentation more
