I've lived in Miami my whole life and I've never been denied to get into a place for a pool party at 3pm while on a guest list and been demanded the only way to get in was to buy a bottle...(keep in mind I'm a girl and I was with one other girl, no guys - plus we're not over 200lbs!!) In addition, we just walked up to the door and we stated who's list we were on and they told us the only way to get in was to buy a bottle, so we walked away. The people that work there were rude and fake and show special treatment to their friends, who walked in passed up as we were at the door. Very small place and NEVER a good crowd! The day and night time parties there SUCK!!! I've also been to a few of the parties that they have at night and it's the tiniest place, bad music, bad crowd. Just overall not a good place to go. more

Rip Off 2/1/2010

I live in NY so I am no stranger to expensive/small portion meals. However, this restaurant charged $48 for a pint-sized portion of paella (4 clams, 2 pieces of shrimp, 2 tiny pieces of lobster and a lot of rice and gooey gravy). I admired the owner's chutzpah. We also ordered a scallops appetizer which was well-conceived and presented but the scallops themselves were extremely undercooked. I also did not enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant--I felt like I was still in the lobby of the hotel (bad acoustics) and the tables were laid across the room like at a wedding reception. Overall a big disappointment. The service was earnest and the manager did seem sincerely concerned when we expressed our opinions. However, I would not return. Cons: Food, Price more

Cabana Dining for Valentine's Day 7/3/2009

My wife and I did the cabana dining for Valentine's Day this year. The experience was great. The food was good, not spectacular, but good. Too expensive though. Pros: Beautiful setting Cons: pricey more

No ordinary place 1/9/2009

Recommend making reservations, or you could wait some time to be seated. Took my husband there for his birthday dinner and it was very good. We tried the house special crab cakes and it was very good, with wonderful sauces. I had a crab chowder which could have been more flavorful - not to thick, though and that's what I prefer. My husband had the lobster, I had the pan roasted chicken - and they were both absolutely delicious. I give this two thumbs up! Attentive service, delicious food, a bit pricey on wines. Pros: Great ""Ambience"" Cons: pricey wine list more

Great food and service 8/14/2008

Blue Door was truly impeccable in almost every way. The location of the restaurant was fantastic, the beautiful interior decor of the Delano hotel, complete with flowing white curtains makes simply entering the restaurant itself a luxuriously stylized event. Blue Door offers both inside and outside seating. The inside seating looked relatively conservative in terms of decorations and set-up whereas the outside seating was truly fantastic. Overlooking the Delano's pool, facing mile-high palm trees and surrounded by the infamous white decor, sitting outside at the Blue Door was one of the best seating arranagements I have experienced at a restaurant. People watching was inevitable as a constant stream of hotel patrons would traverse down to the pool, half a foot from the table at which I sat. Although it is always amusing to stare at strangers, perhaps the tables could have been pushed back a bit farther from the pool-going traffic. Pros: Location, food, presentation, service Cons: sitting outside, people-watching may get old fast more

Quintessential Miami scene 11/18/2007

Whenever I'm in town I always eat here for lunch & it's always a scene. Lots of tourists (it is a hotel, after all) and lots of people-watching (and believe me, these people WANT to be watched - ha). Depending on what you're in the mood for, you can choose the indoor area, which has more of a formal vibe with its high ceilings, white tablecloths and pastel-hued accents, or the fabulous outdoor patio setting, which overlooks the pool and has the cool wall of masks. Usually I order the salmon with the artfully presented Provence-style tomato (I think it's stuffed with cous-cous & topped w/parmesan). I've never made a reservation, but on the weekends, it gets pretty crazy so you might want to call ahead, especially if you have a large group. Pros: Great views, good food, people-watching Cons: Kind of expensive, but worth it for the scene more

Very Romatic 11/18/2007

Two options for dining at this very upscale restaurant in the Delano Hotel on South Beach. Inside seemed very noisy. Outside on a warm Miami night overlooking the famous pool and gardens of the Hotel was wonderful. Service and food was excellent (and pricey) but worth it. It got crowded as the night went on and I think the service would be worse after 8 pm. Pros: food and setting Cons: Price more

Drenched in sweat and embarrassment 8/26/2007

This place is embarrasing and the service is horrible! This was my birthday weekend and I thought celebrating it at this restaurant would be the way to go. Boy, was I wrong. Instead of a nice dinner, I was embarrased by the staff of the hotel. I don't know anything about their parking rules but from what I gathered, you can request valet parking if you have a reservation. However, I had a reservation but when I pulled up to the valet, they wouldn't park my car and we argued for minutes before they got loud and embarrased me in front of many people outside of the hotel. Although the food and the atmosphere is okay, but pricey, we were sat outside. By the time I finished with my food, I was drenched in sweat. We paid $300 for two people and in the end we had to go back to the hotel to take a shower. Go figure! Pros: food Cons: everything else... more

Super cool! 8/3/2006

We love this place! This year we went to Miami twice, and both times we managed to get there on Saturday night. Ambiance is out of this world, great menu and drinks. Prices are a bit higher then at regular restaurant, but hey - it's at Delano! I know for sure we'll dine there again next time we're in Miami. more

Atmosphere, decor YES-Food NO 7/16/2006

An energetic trendy environment, nice surroudings and decor, interesting people to look at...BUT the food is not at all at the level of the reputation; on top the servers are obnoxious if you are not a Star. The prices are above expectations for what you get: the cuisine of an upscale, trendy restaurant chain more interested with food cost than customer satisfaction....!!! Pros: Atmosphere, Philippe Starck decor Cons: Service, Cuisine more

Superb Service 12/15/2005

Our waitress went out of her way to please us. This is so unheard of on South Beach! The food is usually quite fresh & tasty here, but my fish was dry & overcooked. She insisted that I return it & show the chef. The others in my party had delicious meals & I didn't feel like sending it back. I'm glad that our lovely waitress insisted. I took the fish home (the Cobb Salad & crabcake were more than enough!) and sure enough, it was delicious for lunch the next day. Better that the first time around! Pros: Excellent Service, Variety, Comfortable more

Perfect 6/5/2005

The food, ambience, service, and, did I mention the food? were all perfect! After a nasty experience with the Delano's arrogant concierge, we were turned completely around by a delightful staff! They more than made up for the rude concierge! The waiters were so helpful, but not in that ""clingy, hanging around your table"" type. No attitude; just great service! The food was impeccable; lobster chunks ""melted"" in my mouth! What an indulgence! Pros: excellent service, superb food, beautiful room more

Wonderful dining experience 7/29/2004

Our experience at Blue Door was EXCELLENT! The decor there is to die for. It is absolutely the bomb, candles everywhere and wonderful furnishings. I had the Red Snapper which was delicious and had an appetizer that was lump crabmeat and avocado which was delicious as well. The service was wonderful also. This is a fabulous restaurant Pros: food, decor more

Superb in every way 3/21/2004

Down from NYC on a weekend trip, my boyfriend and I had the great fortune of ending up at Blue Door. It goes without saying that the Delano is one of the most lovely and romantic hotels in the world, but we weren't prepared for the perfection we found at the restaurant. We waited a mere 20 minutes for a table without a reservation on a saturday night. After starting with an exquisite mojito, we found ourselves in culinary heaven. Try the lobster with plantains and raisins..... it brought tears to my eyes! So delicious! The service was impeccable - no attitude, very warm and friendly, unlike some of the other snobbish Ian Schrager holes. We didn't want to leave this little piece of heaven. Pros: Outstanding service, Mouthwatering food, Jawdroppingly sexy Cons: , too beautiful???, too perfect??? more

Blue Door Beauty! 2/18/2003

Blue Door has the most romantic and delicate decor. I want those candles! The food was good but not great. We had the duck and lobster which were fresh and tasty but not as creative as I thought it would be. The service is excellent and the desert should be skipped. Also the bar was filled with B&T! A little dissapointing but still worth trying the restaurant. Pros: Decor more

A Real Turkey 12/14/2002

Thanksgiving ""dinner"" was truly the joke of jokes. Unfortunately, the joke was squarely on the patrons. Fixed price turkey dinner for four came to $590, including a mandatory 20% tip ($90) which applied to the fairly priced $100 wine as well as the cafeteria food. A microscopic, poorly prepared appetizer was, in hindsight, good as compared to the cold, processed-like turkey, itself accompanied by stuffing that was worse. Still, this whole sticky mess took two hours to appear!! In short, we came early and stayed late, though certainly not by choice. The experience has left me wondering if the Thanksgiving leftovers are being saved for the lucky Christmas diners. Pros: Was not forced to "di, Escaped foor sickness Cons: Poor service, Disgusting meal, Waiter without a clue more

Best on the Beach 12/10/2002

This place is for the romantic at heart and those with $$$ in there pockets. The atmosphere can't be beat here. The place is swarming with tons and tons of people. The wine list is excellent, the food great, the service is good. A table outside is very romantic setting, but with the Miami humidity...it could back fire on you. One of the best places on the beach, if not the best !!!!!!! Pros: Atmosphere, Romantic, Food Cons: Crowded at times more

THIS PLACE IS WORTH IT 11/4/2002

I've panned a lot of places I went to during my stay at South Beach but this place was a real refreshing change of pace. The food was great, the service was almost impeccable. It was a little pricey but worth it. Id recommend this place over many of the highly publicized places like tantra (which sucks by the way). The atmosphere alone is well worth the cost. more
