Beast breakfast in Los Angeles 2/16/2008

I've never had a better cup of coffee than I have had at Blujam - I eat there as often as I can and the coffee is consistently amazing. The quality s consistently outstanding, the service friendly and food delicious. I bring all my friends to Blujam and even the most demanding have enjoyed it. My cousin from Chicago included the Walnut pancakes in her Christmas letter. My favorite is the eggwhich-- fried eggs with tomato and pesto sauce on a ciabata bread. The ambiance is pleasant, it's easy to carry on a conversation and original the original artwork on the walls changes regularly. Honestly, I can't say enough positive things about Blujam. Pros: Quality, service, value Cons: parking more

Great food, great prices and great service! 10/4/2007

Have you tried the blueberry pancakes? Simply a must! My husband is still raving about the steak and eggs special he had there several weeks ago.\r \r We are frequent flyers at Blu Jam. The menu is diverse and offers a wide array of choices for even the pickiest of eaters. I can always ""Sally"" ( from the movie When Harry Met Sally...I want this, but on the side and not too done, etc) my order and it comes out right each time. Oh and don't forget to try the soups - very flavorful and tasty. \r \r There are special touches that make it a very pleasant dining experience. Being greeted with hugs by Kamil and Ilona, the lemon and mint infused iced water, the comedic Jason and the rest of the wait staff all make for a nice time.\r \r Pros: Diverse menu choices more

Easily the Best Cafe on Melrose! 8/25/2007

I was walking down Melrose on a Saturday looking for a place to eat and let's just say I was about as hungry as I can ever remember being. I was slightly irritable, maybe even a little bit irrational, and I know I was getting on my girlfriends nerves. Though I will say, she was being fairly patient with me. Anyway, I know about five spots that generally do the trick in bringing me back down the earth and satisfying my cravings at a time like this. She mentioned she heard this place Blu Jam Cafe had great breakfast and lunch, and I said I didn't want to try anything new. She gave me one of those looks, you know what I mean. Five minutes later I found myself meeting the owner Kamil and grabbing a spot on the patio at BJC. I had a burger. I was stunned!! Absolutely amazing. The next morning I had a Blu Jam Benedict. Completely floored, it was the best Benedict I'd ever had, and I'm very picky when it comes to Benedicts. The day after that I came for the dish called Gone Fishing, the fish of the day, made fresh daily and sushi grade quality ( I was told). Delicious is an understatement. Anyway, the point is, I've been back many many times and never been dissapointed. The service rocks, the food's amazing, the location's convenient, and yes, if you were wondering, I ended up getting the ""I told you so"" from my girlfriend. Definitely check this place out, but try not to stare at the celebrities you'll find wearing dark glasses in the back corner table. more

Great Food, Nice People 8/21/2007

Kamil's BluJam Cafe is my favorite spot to have breakfast, lunch and soon dinner - once he gets his alcohol license. The food is amazing and I love the fact that you can sit for hours or get in and out quick. No pressure in a nice atmosphere. The coffee is truly one of the best in town and there are interesting specials on the menu. Highlights for me are the Schnitzel with Potato Salad and the Vegetarian Garden Panini which is to die for. Also try the lemon crepes which my friends from out of town still talk about. Kamil always has the daily papers on hand so you can read those if you don't want to people watch.... Pros: 6,95 breakfast before 11 am weekdays.... more

Discovering Melrose's true ""blu"" 8/19/2007

Best breakfast anywhere! And for those of us who aren't morning people - best breakfast still at 5pm! Yeah! That's what I'm talking about! Although pulling in before 11am on a weekday lands you that same exceptional breakfast for a mere $6.95, which, alongside an amazing organic coffee or espresso is enough to get anyone pumped for the day. And, in addition to the extensive regular menu, blu jam boasts specials that will enliven anyone. The meats and fish are so fresh, cooked to perfection, prepared with mouthwatering sauces and dressings (try the mango salsa!) and served like works of art. It's easy to become a regular not just for the unique and masterfully prepared food but the ambiance of the cafe itself. Kamil sure knows how to treat his customers, assuring every dish is served with care and that every customer thoroughly enjoys their entire experience. The interaction between staff and clientele epitomizes the community feel often lost in today's business crazed world. And, of all places, here in the city of angels, a retreat as such is unbeatable. Don't let it pass you by! more

Best breakfast spot in L.A. 8/17/2007

There are not too restaurants I choose to frequent as much as Blu Jam. The best organic coffee, cappucino and such a wide selection of exotic breakfast dishes like my favorites Mazatlan scramble and Paris omelette, from around the world, that you will forever have fun trying something new each day. For Kamil and his lovely wife have made it their passion to bring cuisines from around the world, with the freshest choice ingredients, prepared as you like it, to you. But, the real treat is that the staff is a mix of beautiful people from Europe as well as local yokels who are present, down to Earth, sensitive and genuine. Uhhh . . . and . . . they got some ""lookers"" there, if you know what I mean. Not to forget, the people who come there from all over are such a fascinating mix, they will enchant you by themselves! And, very soon Kamil will start offering fine wines and concocting his bistro creations for dinner too! So, if you haven't yet been to the Blu Jam . . . get your body packing! You now know what you're missing! Pros: $6.95 breakfast special M thr F. Peace and calm Cons: ???? more

The Best Breakfast In L.A. - Period. 8/7/2007

L.A. is a city with little culture and generally bad dining. On the other hand, Blue Jam easily has the very best breakfast in L.A. and a day time menu that is wide, varied and prepared with great skill, and impecable taste. The service is also fantastic, and a major reason why I return so often. The espresso coffee is also one of the finest tasting in L.A. - no bitterness. You would be an idiot to suggest *any* place could beat these guys in the mornings. Trust me - make sure you check them out. more

Blue gem 8/7/2007

Great menu ,very eclectic and for me being European I found a lot of dishes that I grew up with .I had Stuffed pepper with ground beef and home made tomato sauce(It was amazing and brought me back to my child hood) and on my next visit i had poached eggs on a croissant with ham and bacon, very good.Music is great. The staff very attentive and happy.I will be back for more. more

Great Breakfast All Day!!! 8/6/2007

Blu Jam Cafe is a great little cafe located in the heart of the Melrose shopping district. They serve breakfast all day, and if you're an early bird and get there before 11a.m. M-F the entire breakfast menu is only $6.95...cant beat that! They also have an awesome lunch menu and the daily specials are equally impressive! The owner prides himself in all of his food, especially his homemade soups. They have a different soup every other day...a lot of the time vegan, always organic. So if your looking for a new breakfast/lunch spot, you should definetely stop by and check this place out. The atmosphere is cozy yet upbeat, the staff is friendly and very personable and the food is incredibly addicting! I would reccomend the Breakfast Quesadilla or the Eggwich...yum! more

A Great Place! 8/3/2007

Best selection and quality of breakfast choices in Los Angeles. Four or five types of benedict dishes alone! Really flavorful organic coffees and lattes. Also has a great ambience and location in the heart of Melrose Ave.-terrific for people watching and experiencing the eclectic mix that is Los Angeles. I also had an Angus Burger with blue cheese-off the hook! Highly recommend this place... more

Best service, fresh food, people watching, Kamil is the best 7/26/2007

This is the best restaurant in town! Everything is great. The soups are to die for and many of them are vegan, but you'd never guess. The food is very fresh and tasty. The coffee is always good. I love going to Blu Jam on the weekends for brunch. Bring your own champagne and make your own mimosas. It won't cost you anything but the price of the oj. You can also bring your own beer and wine without any hassle. If anything, they encourage it. The atmosphere is very relaxing and I have never felt rushed. The staff is amazing and very friendly. The owner, Kamil, has got to be the coolest guy around. He remembers everyone's names and is genuinely happy to see you. He also really cares about how you feel about the food. He's very passionate about what he does and makes sure you enjoy yourself. I wish all places were like this place. Pros: Soups, people watching, service, Kamil, music Cons: moderate portions for the price, sometimes the soup is a bit cold, no alcohol for sale more

Rare LA find - great food AND service 6/11/2007

I stumbled upon Blu Jam a few months ago and have quickly become a regular. I've only eaten lunch once but I loved what I have and so did my dining companions. My favorite is Friday night dinner. Since the menu changes every week, there is always something new to try. Everyone I bring there walks out a fan - not only of the food but the friendly service. Kamil is an amazing host and chef. The servers remember your name and are always very upbeat and happy. Pros: food & service Cons: permit parking in the neighborhood makes finding a spot tricky depending on the time of day. more

The Cafe In L.A.! 6/5/2007

Great food and an inviting atmosphere! It all flows from the top and Kamil, the owner, knows how to provide an all-around excellent dining experience from a unique and tantalizing menu to connecting personally with his customers. The wait staff follows his lead and provides a high level of friendly customer service. The menu offers a nice range of choices for breakfast and lunch including lemon crepes, which will brighten anyone?s day, along with some new twists on old breakfast standards. If you want a classic breakfast, that's available as well, but don't miss out on the blueberry pancakes or the cornflake crusted French toast special! \r \r If you love soup (and I mean really love soup), then there is no better place! Kamil makes soups which will leave you begging for more including a selection of fantastic vegetarian/vegan soups which have the power to satisfy any carnivore! Don't panic meat eaters, there's an abundance of meat, chicken and fish dishes that won't disappoint.\r \r Blujam is a place that rewards return customers with a sense of community, engaging conversations, fun people watching along Melrose and above all, excellent food at a fair price. After living 12 years in San Francisco, two years in Barcelona, and a summer in Moscow, I was desperate to find a quality cafe when I moved to Los Angeles - I found it!\r more

Great Birthday Party Place 6/4/2007

A friend and I had a joint b-day party here a couple of months ago. About 120 people attended in total and we couldn't have asked for more. Since we were a big group, we had the place to ourselves - hired a DJ, decorated and had an open bar (we BOBed). Finger food was passed around during the cocktail hour and then dinner was sit down (65 people ate). Guests had a choice of appetizer, entree and dessert. Kamil was incredibly helpful and made everything amazingly easy to coordinate. The party was perfect from start to finish and all of the guests raved about the food!! I would highly recommend Blu Jam for a private party - or even lunch or dinner (I go there regularly). Kamil and his staff were fantastic, the layout of the restaurant is perfect for a group party and it was truly a great value for the quality of the food and service that was received! Thomas Pros: Food, Service, Ambience, Uncomplicated. more

The most amazing place ever... 6/3/2007

We have been there for breakfast and friday nights for dinner, the food is incredible, the owner/chef is so friendly he makes you feel like you are the only customer in his restaurant. My parents are from Panama and this is the one place in Los Angeles, they will miss when they go back home. Give the lemon crepes a try and you will hooked after the first bite. more

Blujam Cafe is simply the Best! 6/1/2007

The quality of all their food is truly top shelf, The service is wonderful, the waiters and those great waitresses see to all your dining needs. \r The owner is on scene at all times, he comes to the tables to ensure your satisfaction.\r Again, Blujam Cafe is simply the Best! Pros: Really nice People and Great Food more

Best Breakfast in Los Angeles ( Serving All Day Long!) 5/31/2007

Finally a restaurant with the whole package!! From the Chef/Owner, Kamil, who puts love and passion into, not only his food, but as importantly, his customers! Our dining experiences at the Blu Jam Cafe have been nothing short of amazing! The Blu Jam, via Kamil and his incredibly capable staff, offers a warm, relaxing oasis, away from the often hectic schedule of life. Truly, no words here could ever hope to capture the flavors, the tastes, or the ambience of the Blu Jam.. But, that said, you MUST begin your introduction to the Blu Jam, with any one of it's variations of Eggs Benedict! Or, how about the homemade vegan soups, or one of the many organic salads, (a meal by itself). From the moment you enter The Blu Jam Cafe, to the moment you leave, Kamil, the staff, the food, the environment, nurtures not only your appetite, but also your soul, and for all of this... at a more than reasonable price. How about one in every neighborhood? Pros: The food! Kamil and Ilona, the staff, and the ambiance! more

Simple and Excellent are hard to find! This place has both! 5/30/2007

These days it's hard to find a restuarant to eat that has good food and does not have the L.A. attitude. This place is just that. The relaxed demeanor of Kamil oozes over this eatery. Everything on the menu is good and the house special is always the best thing to get. Breakfast or lunch is such a treat at Blujam. Kamil's gift of creating food that is simple yet memorable make you want to go there for every meal. You usually see some familiar faces when you are there. The unique dinner nights (invitation only) are fantastic as well. I always wanted my own private chef and in Blujam I think I found it. Thanks for everything Kamil. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience are awesome. Cons: Hard to find parking sometimes. Use the Valet at THE VILLAGE IDIOT more
