Bj's Restaurant & Brewhouse

Horrible Horrible HORRIBLE! We went for our friends birthday so there was a big party. They refused to add on another table with the rest of our group so 6 of us agreed we would sit apart from our group. We were friendly to our server but when it came to getting our bill and paying for our meal it took forever. From the time we got our bill till the time we left it overall took an hour and a half. The waitress, SARAH W. then added on 17% gratuity (added to parties of 10 or more) to our bill even though our party was only of 6. The manager was rude as well. When we finally got our money back the waitress she basically threw it on the table, gave us a dirty look and just walked away. I am wondering if anyone at BJ's went to school or was informed about CUSTOMER SERVICE was because it was BAD. more

When I go out to eat, I expect to pay a lot for my meal. I also expect to get a lot of food for that money. I'm a bit of a foodie and only want the best. Well, this place did deliver a great meal that I really enjoyed, only the portion was so small that I left feeling hungry still. The price wasn't worth the meal. BJs is always a great place to hang out. I love the pazuki (not sure if I spelled it right). I still prefer Dave and Busters though. more

Before I lay into this particular BJ's, let me say that I've frequented the BJ's in Balboa for several years and have nothing but good things to say about that location. That said, I have been to this location a couple times and each time the quality of food is lower than the other locations and wait times are sometimes slightly longer than expected. I have visited this location for the last time as I received what I consider to be some of the worst hosting service I've ever had and food that was truly sub-par. I had a party of 8 who were meeting at the location. Upon notification that the rest of my party was going to be late, I informed the hostesses and was told that our group would be placed in the back of the line, which is only fair. What is not fair, is that when I informed them that there would be one additional party member, they said that was fine, and had no other input or commentary on the matter. 45 minutes later I inquired as to the status of our wait time and was told that because we had another member added, that our names had been taken completely out of the list for tables and that we would be placed back at the end of the line again. After my two hour wait for a table, we were ready to be seated. Two party members ordered wedge salads which were far below the quality of those served in other BJ's locations, the waiter got one of the drinks wrong, and another party members dinner arrived 10 minutes after everyone elses. Love the food! and a great beer selection. Not to many healthy options... but the food is really good! one of my favorites. It also is one of the only places in OC to grab a drink and food late, great for late night business meetings. Pros: Open late in OC Cons: Not many healthy options more

Bj's has fabulous beers and the best happy hour specials including half off all mini pizzas. The only downside to this restaurant is that it continues to always have slow service. Not only does the food take awhile but you even have to wait 10 minutes to have your table be bussed off in the bar and then another while to be greeted! I love the food and atsmosphere here, and usually have a nice server, but the last time I went, the girl wouldn't even look at me and was completely rude. I recommed going, good place, but don't expect a great server everytime! more

The food (pizzas, pastas, etc.) have been consistantly well-prepared, delicious, and served hot. This establishment is well-known in the community, and the owner gives a portion of ALL proceeds to Cystic fibrosis (CF) Foundation. more

Go for the beer. Go for the pizza. But dont go for a great dining experience. The menu tries to do too much. Just avoid anything you wouldnt order at a pizza joint. That being said they do have some decent appetizers and their great beer makes everything taste much better. Fun place to go with a group and grab a pitcher and a couple of pizzas. Ok, if you like beer you are going to love this place. They have pool tables and snacks for happy hour. They have a great group of people that make you feel like you are very special to them. They brew their own beer so you can taste lots of differnt beers than you will ever see in the store. They also have a sit down dinner so you can dine in outside of the bar area. The atmosphere at BJ's is that of a loud sports-type bar. But don't let that distract you from the menu, it's pretty good. Great selection, and everything looks pretty tastey. However, the only reason I'd really recommend this restaurant is for their signature dessert: The Pizookie. This hot barely cooked giant cookie (four to choose from: peanut butter, oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip, and white chocolate macadamia nut) with scoop of ice cream on top is INCREDIBLE. The microbrews at BJs are fabulous, particularly the Tatonka Stout. Food is average but goes well with the beer. Must have the pazookie (a chocolate chip cookie baked in its own pan and served hot with ice cream on top). The pizza is a bit too greasy and heavy on the crust, but has a decent flavor.
