A wonderful place to eat 7/19/2011

We eat at Bistro Wasabi a couple of time a month. The service is usually very prompt. Though I am not a big fan of Miso soup, it is the standard pre-dinner freebie. I have found the cooked food to be very good and grilled meats (beef, pork) to be exceptional, with the Strip Steak being particularly tasteful. Now that they have 1/2 price for their wine list on Sunday and Tuesday, the overall value on those nights is hard to beat. more

Food=WOW Service=How 2/28/2010

When heading west toward Bistro Wasabi on Algonquin Rd pay attention to the road sign ""Turtle Crossing"" because that's what you will run into when you hit Bistro Wasabi. I have never seen two more incompetant bartenders behind the bar, the male just stood there confused as to his next move would be! You would think that a restaurant that had cocktail tables in there bar would have COCKTAIL WAITERS! When we reached our table the waiter greeted us by asking, ""Do you know what you want?"". No name, welcome to Bistro Wasabi, or even a smile. It was the first time I have tipped under 20% in 10 years! I'd go back but for the food alone and only when I had 2 1/2 hours to spare. I did have a reservation but that didn't work well either. They need to find a manager that can go around to tables and check on customers and also put some zest back into those working there! Pros: The sushi is really good, house salad is great! 4 star Cons: Service 1 star more

Worst sushi in Chicago area! 3/21/2009

Save your money and avoid this place. The food as tasteless and the menu was unimpressive. The presentation was uninspired. There was nothing unique to justify the prices charged. Pros: At least the beer was cold Cons: Over priced for what you get more

Great Sushi, but long waits 11/12/2008

I have been eating at Bistro Wasabi since it opened, and to be fair, the wait times have improved. The food is wonderful, especially the beef and asparagus roll appetizer. The sushi is also great; my favorites are salmon and tuna. The decor is very modern, and a little pretentious. I guess that's part of the package. When they first opened, they were really snotty for a far far suburban place, but that has really improved with the addition of a new bartender. I recommend carry out on the weekends, as the restaurant is small. But it is really a fun place to eat. Pros: Food, service Cons: long waits, expensive liquor more

One of our favorites 4/23/2008

My husband and I have eaten here many times and always leave loving everything about it. The bar, sushi bar and restaurant are great. Best of all the food is out of this world. My favorite is the shrimp and scallops but I also love the sushi, their presentation is spectacular. We have also taken our 3 kids there, my 10 year old loves sushi! I have many friends that have been here as well and have said it is one of their favorite places to go. Pros: Great food, priced appropriately, nice music and ambience. Cons: Not enough bathrooms more

oriental delight 1/27/2007

I have had nothing but excellent service and quality at Bistro-it is my #1 favorite place to dine. The waitresses have been very attentive and helpful. The mood is oriental, muted atmosphere and we love the quiet environment. The sushi bar is great and even sitting at the bar is a great time as the bartenders are friendly and attentive. I would very much reccomend it to anyone. The asparagus roll appetizer is fantastic as is the ahi tuna appetizer. more

Better Customer Service/Management Needed 7/23/2006

I thought my first bad experience was a fluke when I dined here during the week because of all the good reviews I'd read. The server took our order and didn't come back for 15 minutes. When he did arrive, he informed us that the kitchen was out of almost everything and we all had to change our orders. What's a sushi restaurant without any fish??!! And as I said, we had already waited 15 minutes for our meals!! Our second choices came out incorrect. When we didn't see our server for another 15 minutes, we ate it anway. When we pulled aside another server to ask for a manager they informed us there was not one on duty. Hmmm... no one in charge. Part of the problem? Maybe. I wanted to give them another chance. Went back the next week, food came out with wasabi on the sushi (I specifically requested none). Solution according to the server: Pick it off yourself, the kitchen is very busy right now. Bistro Wasabi is expensive. I believe you should get what you pay for. I was not about to pick apart 9 peices of sushi before I could eat them. So all in all my second visit turned out to be every bit as disappointing as the first. They say third time's a charm, but I just can't afford to try. more

great place 3/27/2006

I love going to Bistro Wasabi. The staff is friendly and the food is spectacular. With it's ambient atmosphere, this restaurant provides an evening of elegant dining. Whether it be for a birthday or just for a night out, Bistro Wasabi is a great place to spend your money and your time. A reservation is definately reccomended, the weekends are very busy! Sushi is fresh, service is great. Pros: great atmosphere, clean, elegant, friendly servers Cons: crowded on weekends more

Surprisingly excellent sushi 3/24/2006

We went on a Friday night, and it was extremely crowded. The bar was an excellent place to unwind, the wait was somewhat long, but the food more than made up for it. The sushi was decadent and excellent. It was really fresh and innovative. The service was great and the waitress was really nice. It is exciting to know that such a great fresh sushi place exists in the suburbs! Pros: excellent food, good service, free parking Cons: crowded, long wait more

excellent sushi 3/22/2006

great sushi, and creative menu, pricing a bit high but well worth the quality. A little crowded but after eating there I understand why. Also opened a new location in hoffman estates, a little more trendy decore, but same fabulous menu and quality . a must if you like sushi and don't want to make the drive to chicago more

I love eating here. The staff is always friendly. The food is always excellent - waits on the weekends can be over an hour. Because they are awalys crowded - service is a little slow at first - but improves over the stay. This is a bit of dining sophistication that is not very available in the area. Pros: excellent sushi, presentation of food Cons: crowded more
