I Absolutely love this place! Great Desserts , Great Wine selections and very romantic setting! Great Date night with the hubby!

Worst

Used to be great, now, not so great...existing on its old reputation and, everyone ""in the area"" knows it. Only tourists or pseudo-affectionatos go there nowadays.

I've been to steak restaurants in New York, Boston, Cleveland, Chicago, San Francisco and all over Florida - but I've never been anywhere else where the food is the art form and the steak is the piece de resistance. No where else can I order a steak rare-medium rare and know when it arrives that is how it will be cooked. Everywhere else is, you should forgive the term, a crap shoot depending on who is cooking that day. I am not even going to go into the wine list end of this because its not part of the discussion, but those of you who have been there KNOW. Two thumbs up for Bern's, quirky decor and all. Pros: Superlative steaks, Wine list, Passion for detail Cons: Too full for dessert, Too far away, Tired of the carrots more

Bern's is Tampa's ""Peter Luger."" They serve the finest dry-aged prime beef in town. The wine list is overwhelming to most, the sommelier will usually offer a good wine to suit your budget and taste that you don't often see elsewhere. Good onion soup, spend the extra few dollars for the tableside caesar-- it's the best (along with Donatello). Very impressive selection of steaks, caviar, vegetables and soups included. Service is usually very good, but can have attitude. Dessert room is worth the trip, as is wine/kitchen tour. $4 mandatory valet parking and second class treatment by receptionists. Need to update decor and restrooms. Pros: great steaks, a must do for visitor Cons: impersonal, like disney world, update decor more

Great place to eat steak and even fish. One thing I would suggest is taking a tour of the kitchen and wine celler. How about for you big and little eaters you can order you steak by the pound! more

This place used to be the best. I've been fortunate enough to visit this Tampa landmark several times in my life and was very sad to see that many of the things that made this the best are clearly lacking. We were seated along the tight aisle that led to the restrooms and then a ""trainee"" waited on us. After waiting 15 minutes for our first taste of wine, we asked about it and the server told us that they were sold out. We made another selection and we didn't see that bottle until we were finished with our salads. The dessert room reeked of smoke. more

    Luminaries from out of town automatically visit Bern's when they arrive in the Tampa Bay area. Limos jam the homely front parking lot and well-dressed diners crowd the foyer. For decades, the steakhouse has maintained its reputation for almost fanatically perfect food and service.

    The Food
    Start with one of the 24 varieties of caviar. Move onto vichysoisse, a creamy soup served chilled, accompanied by garlic toast and crackling homemade potato chips. The chateaubriand is delectable. Choose anything from a petite, seven-ouncer all the way to a belly-busting 48-ounce monster. It arrives sizzling, crisp on the outside, juicy and tender inside, crowned with garlic butter and ringed with bright vegetables. Save room for the chocolate, chocolate, chocolate cake or the bananas foster for dessert.
