I Absolutely love this place! Great Desserts , Great Wine selections and very romantic setting! Great Date night with the hubby!

Worst

Used to be great, now, not so great...existing on its old reputation and, everyone ""in the area"" knows it. Only tourists or pseudo-affectionatos go there nowadays.

Simply the best in the world 1/3/2003

I've been around the world several times, and Bern's is my all-time favorite restaurant. From the scrumptous Escargot, to the tableside-prepared Caesar salad (served at room temperature!), to the incredible Chateaubriand, to the magnificent dessert rooms, not to mention the wine list, it never fails to please. I constantly wax poetic about this establishment to anyone who will listen. It hearkens back to the day when dining out was something special. I may just have to zip down there soon for a meal! Best of all, it's REASONABLE $$ 1/2/2003

Where else have you been where your waiter has been w/there since the 80's?! It's very clean - especially the bathrooms! I never knew how many options there were about steak! After dinner, our party of 6 were asked to take a tour - WOW! The food is fresh! We saw the fish swimming around in the holding tank! The salad leaves - never have any viens - they hand-seperate the leafy part - PERFECT! They wine cellar was incredible. Then, we went to the ""dessert"" floor and had our own private booth. The desserts were amazing & you actually would take time from one bite to the next to savor it all. The service was the BEST for all of us. Congratulations for Bern's Steak House - They really know how to go beyound & really satisfy the customer! The best part - IT WAS AMAZINGLY REASONABLE!!! more

Bern's should be ranked very high on the scale to the best steak restakurants nationally. Pros: Excellent food, Excellent service, Best desert room Cons: Not for kids, Not for big groups more

Best in town, maybe in the country. The steaks are top rate and unlike other top steak houses it comes with salad, soup, and potato (or veggie). The wine list is in a class by itself and has many great wine values more

bernes is not a poor choice for a steakhouse, but the best in tampa bay, not hardly. the inteior is psuedo cat house 1950's with gaudy reds and old furniture. for the service is adequate, bit to get a rating of the best the service should be superb!!! for the money there other choices which have steaks as better such as schulas or charlies more

Absolutely fabulous 12/19/2002

We went to Bern's with a group of 16 the weekend the Panthers played the Buc's. The food, ambience, and our waiter were awesome. However, the bartender was very rude while we were waiting to be seated. We got over it! Pros: waiter, wine, beef Cons: pricey, rude bartender more

This is not so much a steak house as an experience. The steaks are select, the vegetables are organically grown in their own gardens, the wine list is encyclopediac. The decor is late sixties New Orleans brothel. In the separate dessert area your booth is old cherry cask large enough to accommodate a perty of several people. This place is special. more

Burger King is better 12/19/2002

Burger King cooks better food. For the amount of money they charge it should have been the best steak I have ever tried. I wouldn't even take the scrapes home to my dog. Pros: wine list Cons: no parking, too expensive, bad food more

Extremely Over- Rated 12/16/2002

Ordered a Veal strip and it was mostly all fat and bone. The waiter reaction was , "" SO WHAT"". We where served 3 bad wines in the famous dessert room. Bad attitude and bad food. This was our second try and never again. more

Bern's Steakhouse is BETTER than the best!! The whole dining experience alone is worth the drive (for me) and the money! From the impeccable service to the outstanding wines and impressive wine cellar to the fabulous dessert rooms....... You have to experience it for yourself at least once, and I guarantee it will be an event to remember!! more

The previous reviewer was correct it is a special place. To compare it s no better than outback is ludicrous. What Trailer Park is he/she in having said the same about Shulas. Lot of todo over nothing 12/4/2002

The tour was entertaining, The time spent by food preps is wasted. The cost of a regular tasting steak is outragious. The seating is so close that one gets involved in the conversation of the tables around them.The parking sucks. All in all a must visit one time only. Burns is overreated. The atmosphere is nice, perhaps something everyone should experience, but if you want good steak go to Spoto's in St. Petersburg. Pros: Good Service, Valet Parking Cons: Very Expensive, Food over-rated more

  • The Scene
    Luminaries from out of town automatically visit Bern's when they arrive in the Tampa Bay area. Limos jam the homely front parking lot and well-dressed diners crowd the foyer. For decades, the steakhouse has maintained its reputation for almost fanatically perfect food and service.

    The Food
    Start with one of the 24 varieties of caviar. Move onto vichysoisse, a creamy soup served chilled, accompanied by garlic toast and crackling homemade potato chips. The chateaubriand is delectable. Choose anything from a petite, seven-ouncer all the way to a belly-busting 48-ounce monster. It arrives sizzling, crisp on the outside, juicy and tender inside, crowned with garlic butter and ringed with bright vegetables. Save room for the chocolate, chocolate, chocolate cake or the bananas foster for dessert.
