Editorial review from Citysearch 7/23/2013

this was the most outstanding medical facility I have ever been treated by. Lovely atmosphere, the energy is very positive. The staff and the doctor and PA were all very friendly, competent and professional. I would highly recommend them to anyone for bone health. I was extremely pleased with their service. Dr. Gardiner has a great bedside manner and Shamus was very knowledgable and friendly. thank you to everyone for your help and to my friend, Gennie, for referring me to them. more

Stay away from Dr. Bernhart, 3/23/2012

I would say if you are having back pain to go to another group. I had the same experiences as alot of the previous people, they are all about the money and the staff is always changing. I wonder why? The hospital inpatient nurses are a joke as well. They could never make it in a real hospital and b is staffed with nurses who would not make the cut. Go to a neurosurgeon instead. I am 5 years out and the new MRI states problems with the original surgery and not one Dr out of 4 that I have seen at KC orthopedic institute will even acknowledge this medical problem. Taking care of their buddies...STAY AWAY.... more

Money Hungry Practice-Wish I could give them Negative Stars! 11/11/2010

I agree with the other reviews expressing that this group is all about the money! I made an appointment for my husband, who had a back and foot injury due to being rear-ended in an auto accident. Found a wonderful foot doctor (not this practice!), and called Dickson-Dively for the back injury. In the process of making the appointment and asking for the registration forms ahead of time, I spoke with 4 different people. Not once did any of them ask me if this injury was the result of a car accident. Imagine my husbands surprise when he appeared for the appointment, only to have them ask for his $40 copay, PLUS AN ADDITIONAL $200.00, and in addition, they wanted a credit card - just to have on file, after they found out that his injury was the result of a car accident (this was before he was seen by the doctor). My husband called me to see if anyone had told me this up front, and of course, no one had. I called and spoke with both the medical biller and the office manager, as I work in medical billing and wanted to understand the $200.00 charge. They could only tell me it was ""office policy"", and that the $200.00 charge was not associated with a CPT code (so BCBS would not reimburse). I would think that any professional practice would make potential patients aware ahead of time if they expected such an astronomical charge upfront and out of pocket. The office manager commented that they have a lot of auto accident injury patients, so why would you not ask the simple question ""Is your injury a result of an auto accident?"", and make the patient aware of the upfront charge before they arrive for the appointment? They just think they'll get you in the door first, so they have a better chance of getting your money! We were so angry that my husband left without being seen...of course, they could not give him any proof that his co-pay was credited back to his card! Wonder what kind of luck we'd have for charging them $200.00 for the time my husband took off work? Ha - don't think I'll hold my breath!!! I can only take comfort in the Biblical principle ""you reap what you sow"" or, put another way, ""what goes around comes around"". Too bad we can't rate the actual physician, but really, I guess we have, as the physicians surely make some of the decisions about how their practice is run. more

Wonderful Doctors and Nurses! 5/20/2008

This is the first time I have written any opinion. I have been with this group of doctors for some years now. They are professional and very caring. The nurses do a great job of getting the messages to the doctor and I always get a speedy reply to my questions. I had surgery just this year and it went very well. The surgery was extensive and all the problems were resolved. It was a very good experience. I will continue to go to this group of doctors because I believe they are the best in Kansas City. They do have two offices so make sure you get the one close to you. Pros: excellent doctors and nurses Cons: they have two offices and making sure you get the appointment in the office of your choice. more

Dr. Brian J Divelbiss 10/16/2006

While on the job, I broke the bones in my wrist in several places and was sent to the Dickson Dively Midwest Orthopedic center in Leawood, Kansas. I was very surprised and overwhelmed by the curtousy and professionalism of everyone at the clinic. I have never been to a doctor/hospital environment that was this caring and professional. From the time you step into the facility until you are rolled out to your car, it is first class. My surgeon, Dr. Brian Divelbiss was outstanding and highly skilled. He showed empithy with my injury, explained the procedure to both my husband and myself to our full understanding. My husband told me that after the surgury, Dr. Divelbiss even came out to the waiting room with a couple of xrays to show him how the plate and pins looked that he had put into my wrist and explained how the procedure had gone. This is the kind of organization/medical facility that should be written about in the ""How to run a business"" books! If anyone has any type of orthpedic problem, I strongly recommend that they get sent to the Dickson Dively Midwest Orthopedic clinic.\r Deborah Sims Pros: Very clean, highly organized with a curtious professional staff even have free snacks in the waiting room more

Oh NO. 8/4/2006

After months of pain and a few doctors, I recommended that my Mother see the Dickson and Dively group to get a 2nd opinion. (surgery needs to be done, however she is considered a poor surgical risk other doctors wont touch, and we were looking for hope- maybe something else that was overlooked by other doctors your usual 2nd opionion. To see them we had to go outside of her insurance - so this visit was completly out of pocket- and her pain has kept her from working for some time- we were looking for hope.- what we got was evil. We came prepared with Past Ex-rays, Medical Charts, copies of other doctors notes. The office staff was nice. The Doctor who spent less than 10 min in the room with her. He was rude, hostel to the point of angry- and didn't even want to see the information we had brought. It was truly horrible. (she left crying). Its the worst bedside manner I have ever seen, and so lacked compassion or even standard of care. Still weeks later He or the other Doctors have'nt followed through with anything he had said he would (except the bill). (this used to be a great Ortho group when I worked at St Luke's 10 years ago) They are not now. I would seek other options before them. People need Doctors with compassion- NOT just their hand out wanting your money. Our hope was dashed.. \r Pros: None now- This group is past its prime. Cons: Bedside Manner is aweful. Just wanted the money. more
