... Cons: this jeweler is the CON!

Editorial review from Citysearch 5/24/2013

My husband purchased my wedding ring and bands from Benchmark Jewelers at the GrapeVine Mall while on vacation in Dallas. After wearing it for three weeks a small stone fell off the side of the engagement ring. I called the jeweler he initial took full responsibility for the poor job securing the diamonds and said he would take care of shipping cost, repair it, and send it back the the wedding bands my husband was still making payments on. ALL LIES. This is what acutely happened: My husband was charged my husband $80 dollars to have it shipped to them. They did repair my engagement ring. They held my engagement ring hostage (which had been paid for in full) until my husband paid for the wedding bands (which he was on a payment plan with the store for). Told me that I much be wearing tight jeans and put my hand in my pocket and lost the stone. ( I am an army nurse who never wore that ring to work or the gym.) This was very insulting. Then they only sent my engagement ring back and charged my husband another 80 dollars in shipping. Grand total: $160.00 we paid because their jeweler failed to secure the diamonds properly in the ring. Diamonds don't fall out after 3 weeks unless they were not secure in the first place. NEVER USING THIS COMPANY AGAIN. DO NOT GO IN. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM THEY ARE LIERS AND CROOKS.\r more

Shoppers Beware! 8/20/2007

My son purchased a diamond from the owner of this establishment last year. After having the stone independently appraised, he found that it was worth less than 35% of the price that he paid even though he was given a ""certified"" appraisal. After reporting the company to the Jewelry Vigilance Committee, the owners claimed that he had been given the ""wrong"" diamond and that they wanted to clear up the matter. He asked for a refund of 80% of his money but the owner refused to refund anything. Instead he gave him another EGL certified diamond that has proven to be worth less than 60% of the price he paid. The owner was smart enough to put a very short time limit on his ""offer"" that would not allow enough time to compare the EGL certification with a GIA certification, thus proving the real value of the diamond beyond subjectivity. So if you want to pay too much for your jewelry, then this is the place to shop! There are many good sites on the internet to educate yourself about how to buy a diamond. The only way to combat these type of merchants is through education. Don't learn your lesson the hard way like my son did!\r more
