gag me with a chopstick! 6/30/2008

i cannot believe that this place stays in business. no one knows what is going on...sushi food was horrible and everything is so inconsistent. i have been a regular and tried to give it another try after another try but my last visit was my last. the wait staff are unprofessional and clueless and the food is not fresh at all anymore. everything just feels off there. something that was once good has fallen off the map. even my drink tasted like sh*t. Bad environment. bad service. not recommended. just don't waste your money on the food or gas to go there Pros: was once good so hope Cons: everthing has fallen to sh*t more

Bad service...what has happened? 6/2/2008

I have eaten here consistently since moving from Dallas over 18 months ago but recently the service has gotten really bad. I usually eat here for lunch (I work at Dell) and noticed the past couple of visits you seemed to be forgotten about ??. my husband and I went on Friday night the experience was so bad I will never go back! I ordered something new and when they finally brought it, after my husband had finished all his sushi, it wasn't what I expected. I went to the hostess stand to get a menu to make sure I ordered the correct thing, when I got back to the table a lady was there (not the waitress) asking if everything was o.k. I explained what I ordered and how I thought it was different than what they gave me. She said ""this isn't what you ordered let me take it back"". Then she came back to our table, with the sushi (that had been carried back and forth to the table 2 times) and said that she was wrong this was what I ordered, I then told her what I expected it to be. She told me to taste it and I would see that the sauce was spicy; I explained that I had tasted it and I didn't like it. She started to walk off and then turned around when she noticed I wasn't eating eat, picked up the plate and then said ""I will just take it off then"". She comes back and throws the check on the table, while continuing to walk, and said ?I took it off for you.? I was appalled, not once did we ask for it to be removed from the check, sushi corrected, etc... The sad thing is all she had to do was LISTEN to what I was saying to know all I wanted was some spicy mayo. Now they have lost our business and I will relive my experience to everyone I work with at Dell. And where did the owner go? He was ALWAYS in there overseeing things. Pros: lunch is 2 for 1 Cons: bad service, sushi quality has gotten bad too more

GREAT FOOD, TERRIBLE WAIT STAFF 5/20/2008

Some friends and I found this place earlier this year and have been a bunch of times since. The food is great and so reasonably priced. However on our last visit our server, who seemed very young and very inexperienced, may have changed my mind about Beluga. Even in ordering the simplest menu items, she got them wrong and it took forever, not to mention the length of time to get drinks! The manager tried to step in but he wasn't much help either. The place was not busy- there were only three other tables while we were there! \r We'll think twice about going there again due to the service, but as always- hats off to the sushi chefs! The food is fantastic. Pros: Great food. Great prices Cons: Certain servers are awful! more

Fabulous Restaurant 5/5/2008

I was amazed when I first tried Beluga. The atmosphere is spectacular, the wait staff friendly and knowledgeable, and the sushi - amazing!!! And very reasonably priced, which is what keeps me coming back for more. Whenever I have guests in town, or friends in the area, this is the restaurant I drag them to, and not one has ever been disappointed. Hats off to Beluga - I'll be seeing you again soon. Pros: Great sushi, great wait staff, wonderful atmosphere Cons: I have to drive a few miles to get there. more

Great sushi in Round Rock??? YOU BET!!!! 11/21/2007

YUM-O! This ain't no 2nd class, run of the mill sushi place that can't compete with Austin establishments. It is AWESOME. Not only is the food excellent, the prices are reasonable & the ambiance is great. Every weekday lunch & happy hour they have 2-for-1 sushi (not including the rolls though), and on Saturday they have all-u-can-eat for $35/person. If you like spicy, then definitely try Chef RIch's original FIrecracker Roll! Definitely worth the drive (even from South Austin ). Pros: great food, great lunch & weekday happy hour specials Cons: no cons more

For Sushi Lovers 10/28/2007

This is for all the sushi lovers out in the Austin area.\r Tonight was my first night eating at Beluga and all I have to say I'll be returning and informing all my friends and co-workers. Everything was perfect from the minute we walked in the door. The host who sat us was really nice and turned out to be our waiter too. He made us feel very comfrontable and he treated us like we were family. I recongnized him from another restuarant where he waited tables before and the luck we had running in to him. Service was top-notched and the food was to die for! He recommended rolls i haven't had anywhere else and I can see why. He was on top of everything and our drinks were always full. As I was reading the other reviews and read that the food was expensive. To us it was rightly priced for the quality of the food and I don't mind spending big bucks for the sushi I had tonight. I highly recommend Beluga for any occasion and they will be seeing us a lot more. Ask for Peter next time you come in if he's there. Enjoy! Pros: Everything more

new wait staff= ??????we just human after all 10/24/2007

i cant help but wandered that soo many bad reviews regarding this restaurant so i take a trip this morning and went there and check out the scene during lunch and dinner time\r \r i look up the menu and it says 2 for 1 sushi at lunch time so i went and order some tuna salmon and yellow tail sushi.. food comes within 15 minutes . there were 4 pieces per order instead of 2 pieces. so its almost a dollar sushi... sushi as freakin delicious. not the best cut but at least its fresh.then i look at the menu and they have SAKE TORO($14) and BLUE FIN TORO ($25)\r \r for me 25 dollars or a sashimi isnt my daily lunch meal but i gave it a try.. its good and smooth.. trust me go to any japanese restaurant and ask them about the blue fin toro.. i dont even think they have it!\r \r for the service i realized my waitress have a guy keep following him. and he looks young, turns out he is a trainee.. my experience with the service are excelent. ( drinks always full. food comes a decent time. no mistake.) so to say a bad service in the internet are just completely dumb.. if u have bad service .. no need to be shy or whatever. tell them you wanted to see jay / eric the manager that the service are horrible\r \r thats why i gave beluga 3 stars only since they still hiring new people to become a wait staff more

Blah 9/15/2007

Really not the best I've had. It's ok when you're in a hurry and just want to get some sushi. The salmon sashimi I got was way too stringy. The tuna was mediocre at best. Not sweet, just blah. Not acceptable. Ahi tower is tasty. Jay and Fish (the owners) are nice guys, but the fish needs to improve on flavor and texture. For the amount of money that we spent, I'd rather go to Tomodashi on Parmer. Pros: nice scene. nice bar/wine selection, interesting rolls Cons: fish quality is not good more

Food excellent, Service very bad! 9/15/2007

Normally I don't rate down a good restaurant like Beluga. However, in this case I am trying to find an outlet to tell the owners in some way. The food as I mentioned if excellent. Start with the Tuna Tower, a very unique combination out of Tuna, rice and spices not only beautiful in the presentation also excellent in taste. All rolls are great and another favorite is the Summer Rolls (fancy spring rolls) and the Beef Sushi. \r Now to the service. The spot has become hip lately and plays the music a little to loud sometimes. All not a big problem, the bar is excellent to unwind and restaurant is nice and clean. We have been multiple times during the week where we asked to be seated in a quit spot or booth and have gotten the reply they are reserved. Only to sit over dinner for 2 hours and non of the booths or quit spots are taken. I've explicitly asked if you need to make a reservation for the booth as they always try to place to close to the music and after a long day at the office I don't want to shout over the music to have a conversation with my wife (sorry I'm really unreasonable there). The last two times we basically walked off after they told us the quit place in the back are all ""taken"" and went to Gumbo's and Main Street... sorry folks if you can send away fairly frequent customers that spend a $100 for dinner... event the best food cannot make up for it. Pros: Food Cons: Service, Seating, Noise more

Awesome Daily Specials 9/4/2007

Our waiter was extremely nice and definitly a sushi person, made great recomendations and was very friendly. They have good daily specials and lunch menu, great offers like 2x1 and percentages of if you walk in with the Beluga Logo! Tempura was a bit too crunchy, definitly not done by a japanese staff since the place is owned by koreans... Great decoration, even on the food. Pros: AWESOME SERVICE, Great Daily Specials Cons: Not owned by Japanese, somewhat pricy more

Extremely fresh sushi, funky atmosphere 8/5/2007

My husband and I are huge sushi lovers and have really enjoyed the food at Beluga every time we've dined there. It is a wee bit pricey, but the fish is incredibly fresh and there are some really innovative creations on the menu. The Ahi Tower is to die for, and the Summer Roll is always awesome, too. The service has been mixed, but mostly good. Our most recent server was extremely friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is very sophisticated and upscale. more

Good Sushi - Awful Awful service! 7/22/2007

I don't think the employees even know whats on the menu.\r We saw the menu online and decided to get some Sushi take out from Beluga in Round Rock. You would think, we wouldn't run into poor service when you only need to pick up food. Well, we called to place our order and had to repeat our order about 5 times before the lady on the line finally understood (or so we thought!). Five minutes later our phones rings (after we close the website with the menu and rates), and the same lady informs us that the chicken skewers were not available. Could we substitute it with Teriyaki Chicken? There was some god awful mucsic playing in the back ground and we could barely hear her. We said ok not knowing that it cost more than 3 times what we ordered. It wasn't even worth it. Never again! \r The only thing good about the place is the sushi. I would rather drive to Austin than next door to beluga. \r Pros: Good Sushi Cons: Awful service, employees don't know what they are doing half the time. more

WOW! 7/13/2007

Great! Waiter recommended Ahi Tower so I tried it! Loved it! A little pricey but it was worth it! more

So good I work there now! 7/9/2007

My husband and I think Beluga's is the best sushi restaurant around. We love the swanky environment, the fish is always unbelievably fresh and the rolls are unique and outstanding. We have frequented many sushi restraurants and they just don't compare in quality to Beluga's. I enjoy the place so much I started working there a couple of nights a week. If you want to try something unbelievable and mouth watering, order the Ahi Tower. I promise you won't be disappointed. That's what got me hooked! Pros: fresh sushi, great rolls, great service, wonderful ambiance more

Sushi candy, eye candy, happy hour, sit at the sushi bar! 6/22/2007

All i can say is if you want some delicious sushi and free entertainment then come to beluga...and sit at the sushi bar. wow hottie behind the bar. yum...my mouth is watering not only for the white tuna if you know what i mean...and they know how to have fun here. you gotta come see for yourself...\r Pros: eye candy, yummy food, eye candy, i mean delicious sushi Cons: nada more

not worth it 5/23/2007

we decided to try it out and we had a bad dining experience. it just did not feel like anyone had it together and the food was of low quality. we will not be returning more

Great Food!! 5/8/2007

I read all of the other reviews and it seems that people are bashing the place for the service. I admit the service is not great but it is better than allot of other places! The food is the reason we keep going back! I moved out here from California and was very used to fresh fish, the first 5 or 6 places I ate at had horrible fishy tasting food. I was delighted when I found Beluga the fish is always fresh and they have an excellent menu. The service is tolerable for the quality of food you get. I highly recommend this restaurant for their quality fish. I also get real good service every couple of visits!!!!!!!! more

beluga sushi 5/7/2007

I have been to this restuarant several times, day/night and weekend/day and the service is always horrible. Service staff does not understand menu and they seem to disappear. Not a place for children since they bring out menu items one at a time so you are there for 2 hours and not everyone has eaten and the kids get antsy and someone goes home hungry without their whole meal plus a $200 bill. I have eaten sushi all over the country, this sushi is pretty good so I return, not necessarily the best. The specials are a big reason for going but be prepared to get one item at a time and wait a long time for another delivery. The music is loud but I really like what they play and the ambiance is great. The tear drop is a killer. Pros: good sushi, ambiance Cons: bad service more

HORRIBLE SERVICE, OK Food 4/25/2007

I have had dinner at Beluga on two different occasions. The food is good and sushi is fresh. It's not outstanding, but it's pretty darn good. The service is pretty bad though... Our waitress did not know the menu, couldn't answer questions, and had A LOT of trouble opening a bottle of wine. I had a similar waitress experience on my previous visit as well.\r \r I have one major bone of contention with the restaurant. They advertise lots of discount specials. One of these specials is 2 for 1 sushi from 5-7pm Mon-Fri. My companion and I asked the waitress about the special and she confirmed that the paper sushi menu was 2 for 1 during the ""happy hour"" timeframe. We ordered exclusively off of this menu, but when the bill came we were charged full price. When we asked the waitress she said it was because we ordered sushi rolls and not sushi. The chef came over and firmly told us that we were wrong and sushi rolls did not count as sushi even though they were on the sushi menu. Finally, the owner came over and told us we probably misunderstood and that there was no conceivable way for him to adjust the bill. I have worked in the restaurant industry and found this explanation and the attitude of the staff ridiculous! They all made us feel like the problem was our fault. What happened to ""the customer is always right???"" \r \r I would have been happy if the owner had said that is sorry about the misunderstanding, will adjust the price this one time, and fully explains what the ""real"" special is. Instead, they have lost a customer for life. After paying $75 for dinner and leaving angry, I WILL NEVER GO BACK! There are lots of places in the city with pretty good sushi and better service. Pros: Fresh sushi and pretty good food, nice ambience Cons: BAD SERVICE, sushi is ""creative"" and Americanized instead of authentic more
