Yummy~~~!! 2/18/2010

Yummy!!! I don't want to give out five stars but I really can't find any reason to dock them a star. Seriously I am not a fan of oysters :-(, but the sign for oyster hour lead me and my friends in this place even though I am not the biggest fan of oyster as I mentioned. Pros: Good Oyster Hour more

fantastic food, great beer selection 4/4/2009

It is a shame the reviewer huqleberryDOTcom did not bother to even try this place before reviewing it. If he had, he would have found that Belcourt offers a better selection of really good beers than any other restaurant in the neighborhood. They may not serve Kronenbourg, but they don?t serve Bud Light either. Instead, their selection of European and American craft beers includes Sixpoint, Dogfish, La Chouffe, Harviestoun, Orval, Rogue, Hitachino, Goose Island and others. This place isn?t ?pretending? to be anything ? it is actually a really great restaurant with delicious food, great beer and comfortable atmosphere. Also, all of the wines I?ve tried have been really good and well priced. The food is outstanding ? my wife usually gets one of their salads, the chicken, fish or pasta. I am more of a meat guy, so I go for the huge, delicious pork chop, brisket, pork belly, or sausage. All of it is reasonably priced. Great value. Pros: amazing food, beer and wine selection, good value more

Love this bistro 3/27/2009

The menu is delicious and surprising. The ambience is delightful. The tab is modest and fair. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Don't miss this gem of a restaurant. Pros: Marvelous fare, ambience and staff Cons: None that I can think of more

Avoid posers 10/1/2008

I was walking down second avenue the other day when I had the urge to have a beer, not just any beer, a Kronenbourg 1664. I racked my brain for the perfect place to go and I remembered seeing a Kronenbourg sign at the Belcourt. I'd never been there before and the architecture of the space was complemented by a decent crowd. Pros: chairs Cons: this isn't an MGMT song more

lovely East Village find! 4/22/2008

I admit, I was turned off by the exterior of Belcourt - it's a corner spot on 2nd Avenue with a drab exterior that I would normally bypass. But I heard the chef there was from Uovo, one of my old neighborhood favorites, so I gave it a shot. I am now in love with this place! The inside is lovely, a cozy and comfortable bistro. Service was great, very friendly and relaxed. And the food is fantastic. A tender olive oil poached octopus started the meal (one bite into my date's plate turned into three and wanting more!), along with a spinach salad that was simple, fresh, and big enough to serve three. I had a prawn and monkfish stew, similar to a bouillabaisse, that was wonderful - very well spiced and perfectly cooked seafood. A side of polenta was loaded with cheese and olive oil and therefore heavenly. A nice pot-au-creme for dessert (not the best dessert ever but perfectly suitable). more

Paris in New York 4/17/2008

Belcourt is one of the most adorable restaurants I've been to. It feels like dining in a Paris cafe - but the food might be better than a regular cafe. Creative dishes like croque madame with lamb ham and kumquat marmalade on delicious home made breads have made me a regular. Brunch is a serious value. I'm not sure where else you can dine, order two or three dishes per person, with a cocktail, and leave under $20 a piece. Belcourt is unbelievable. Pros: the food Cons: the music more

Cute little place. Good French bistro food , not OVERLY pricy compared to uptown 3/14/2008

I found Belcourt after reading Time Out New York review. The restaurant is small so a party of 5 or more will get difficult. However, the food was very good. We came for brunch and had the recommended ravoli that has apple and butternut squash with sage. It was delicious. Also had the open sandwich where its a sunnyside egg on top of a lamb ham. Fantastic! The waiter was very attentive and I will definitely return for more , esp the lamb burger I saw across the table Pros: Good French bistro style food, cute little bistro atmosphere, Good brunch Cons: Not good for groups more

A Pinch of Paris with free daytime wi-fi besides 2/12/2008

Get the sweetbread appetizer with garlic butter. You won't regret that. The Champagne mojito was right up my picky alley. The boudin blanc dog takes three days to make and costs 9 dollars. The blue cheese plate with a taste of 10 year old whiskey makes for a warming dessert. The only thing is, they don't seem to hire ethnic folk. Pros: some of the dishes remind you why eating is an end in itself Cons: i like to see some color in my restaurant staff more

has potential 1/25/2008

The looks of this place are tres pastis meets we didnt have enough money to do it 100%. That said, the food here is solid and so is the service. i think if people start going to this as a neighborhood spot more low key than other more euro-ly annoying french spots it could get its feet under itself and be great. Try it! Pros: not too busy, cute space Cons: needs to find its niche more

Wonderful food and atmosphere 1/17/2008

I went to Belcourt Saturday night with a friend; it was my second visit. I had the best hangar steak I have ever had and the 'french fried' scallions were incredible. Also had a bottle of pouilly fuisse that wowed us. Service was spotty, but pleasant. It's my new favorite and I will be back again. Pros: Food, atmosphere, nice wine list Cons: service can be spotty, a bit loud more

Great food, not crowded... yet 12/6/2007

I went here with a couple friends on a Sunday night and really enjoyed it. The butternut squash and apple ravioli to start were delicious--the wild mushrooms on them were a great touch. And my hanger steak with herb butter was really tender and flavorful, and the fried scallions on the side were a nice variant on fries or onion rings. The prices were reasonable for the quality of the food, I thought... The place was mostly empty on a Sunday night. Not sure if that is the case on Fridays and Saturdays. My only complaint is that the service, while not bad, was a bit lackluster... it was odd that they gave us bread halfway through our appetizers and then cleared the bread with the appetizers. If you get upset by those sorts of things, it might bother you. But overall, the food and the prime E. Village location suggest that this place should be successful. Pros: Food, location, nice classic Bistro style Cons: So-so service more
