Best

We recently moved here and I was very nervous in looking for a new therapist, but after a couple of months of appointments, I am happy with Dr. Tony's care and the friendly office...

Worst

Dr. Tony - (Anthony D. Mangiafico) - loved him - but he unfortunately made inappropriate comments ;-(

Professional practice! Dr Emiliani and Dr Tony are certifiably excellent practitioners in their fields! Have been a patient for well over three years and no complaints. They listen to me, and work with me: they treat me...not just the symptoms. I give this practice 5 Stars of 5! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 6/21/2012

My daughter went to Dr Emiliani for about 4 years. The entire time she went to see him, he was rude to us, told me I didn't understand my own daughter, wouldn't listen to anything I had to say about my own daughter's behavior, accused me of thinking I ""must be a doctor"" because I asked questions he didn't want to answer, and was generally a jerk to me, and my daughter, every time we went in. On days my husband would bring her in, he would say ""Oh, so your wife, The Doctor, didn't come today?"". I questioned him because almost everytime we went to see him he would change my daughter's medications. It finally got to the point where the medications he was giving her put her in the hospital : She had lost over 40 pounds, was lethargic, was shaking all the time, and couldn't hold a simple conversation for longer then 2 minutes. I went to Dr E several times and voiced my concerns...he would just look at me smuggly, and say that HE was the doctor, not me. Finally, when my daughter passed out at home 3 seperate times, I said enough is enough, and took her to the hospital, at MCV. The head of Childrens Psychiatrics came and saw her and told me that almost all of the 5 medications Dr E was giving her were unnecessary, and in fact, had made her sick. He also told me if I hadn't brought her in when I did, she may have ended up with perminant damage from the medications. Through him, we were able to get her into another doctor's office right away. I never went back to Dr E's office. If you have your child seeing Dr Emiliani, stop right now and find another Dr. As soon as my daughter started going to another doctor, it was like she was a completely different child......she has made great improvements and is doing more than well. Thank God for MCV....they saved my daughter's life! more

We recently moved here and I was very nervous in looking for a new therapist, but after a couple of months of appointments, I am happy with Dr. Tony's care and the friendly office staff and the best part..it is a short drive from Ft. Lee. He was highly recommended by a neighbor and I refuse to believe him to be ""unprofessional"" in anyway. more

Unprofessional experience with Dr. Tony 1/21/2011

I am also very concerned reading about this ?individual involved? that Dr. Tony Mangiafico writes about. Is this indeed a place of great care and safety for patients and for those accompanying patients?! more

The complaint was dismissed 12/6/2010

This is Dr Tony again. I am pleased to announce that the complaint filed against my professional practice with the Department of Health Professions has been dismissed without condition. The board acknowledged the ill intent behind the complaint and motivations of the individual involved. To assure the safety of all who visit the Behavior and Stress Center including my current and prospective clients the office has implemented significant security measures and law enforcement authorities are involved. Thank you. Dr Tony more

Wrong Prescription prescribed 11/29/2010

I have been going to Dr. Emiliani for a while now and yes he put down my first psychiatrist and says he said he doesn't understand why they would prescribe me something that actually worked for me then he goes and prescribes me something unrelated to what I even need to begin with after we sat there and talked for a while about my needs and he even agreed to prescribe to me what I really need. I went home and looked up the prescription and it had nothing to do at all with what is going on with me actually the opposite of what I need. more

Overall... Good Experience 9/29/2010

Friendly staff, lobby was full. My experience with Dr. was good. He took time to explain me my condition and prescription is working great for me. He recommended therapy and my female therapist is a good listener. It's hard to find a good Psychiatrist in this area that knows about what to prescribe the first time, gives plenty of refills only need to follow up as needed. more

Dr. Emiliani and Dr. Tony 9/1/2010

I am a patient at the stress and behavior Managment since one year and am happy. I agree that Dr. Emiliani is a little bit ""crunchy"" at times, but I think he has a lot of work to do. more

Horrible DR 5/16/2010

My son has been seeing Dr E for a few months. Dr E has yet to get my sons name right. Every time we walk into the office, he calls my son by a completely different name and I have to correct him. How hard is it to get right? Your front desk girl can call us in, yet he doesn?t know whom he is seeing? The wait times are horrible; we wait on average an hour over our schedule time. Dr E is not friendly and does not care what you have to say. Do not expect him to call you back if you leave him a message either. I have had 1 call returned and that took 5 days. I always feel like I am wasting his time when we are in his office and that it bothers him to have to ""help"" us. He called in a script for my son over the weekend and did not even get the name right. The pharmacy called me and I was so floored. I had to explain that the DR was an idiot, I did not have a child by that name, thankfully, they were still able to fill it, but seriously, how can a DR screw something so important like that up. How dangerous. I am going to be reporting him, and we will NOT be seeing him again. Cons: pill pusher, long wait, doesnt get name right more

Great listener 10/27/2009

Great Dr! he was a little cocky but he listens to all of whats going on in your life and gives you good advice Pros: staff is nice,Dr is good Cons: Sometimes it takes a long time to see the dr more

Bad experience with child many years ago. 9/21/2008

My son was in Poplar Springs 20+ years ago. Dr. Emiliani spoke to my significant other at the time instead of me and told him my son had antisocial behavior. They drugged him most of the time and he didn't come out any better than he went in. Many years later I found out my son had been violently sexually abused before this admission and had not told anyone. Instead of working with my son more closely and trying to establish a relationship with him to encourage him to talk, I feel Dr. Emiliani made a made rush to judgment, which from the reviews written is a frequent action of his. It never entered my mind about sexual abuse. Dr. Emiliani was the expert. He should have explored other possibilities. Of course, all the blame does not lie on him. Insurance would only coverage for 30 days and I could not afford any more after that. My son also is the one who did not speak up, but a child molested between 9 and 12 years old would definitely have a problem doing that. Pros: He is supposedly an expert Cons: Sounds like he's very cocky and does not respect patients or parents of patients. more

Wonderful Care 6/25/2008

Dr. Emiliani is the best. He listened to me, and got me on the right medications. He is very kind and takes great pains to make me comfortable. Dr. Tony is my regular theripist and I cannot recomend him enough. He is gently guiding me through a learning process to understand my issues better. I feel very safe and well cared for. I've been going for about two years and will continue to go. If your looking for good mental health care, try them out, you will not be dissapointed. Really. Pros: Wonderful and caring staff. Dr.s are very caring and prompt with my appointments Cons: Some office staff have a heavy Latin accent, but willing to listen and learn more

Worst Doctor EVER! 4/4/2008

I recently moved to Virginia, from Tennessee. I had a doctor in Tennessee who was amazing, and he was treating me for panic disorder with agoraphobia. I went into the office. The staff was nice, and I talked to the ""counselor"" also. He was amazing, and I was excited to meet the doctor thinking I had found a great place. I go into Dr Emiliani's office and he says nothing. Looks at my paper, calls me a pill addict..(I don't drink or use illegal pills) calls my dr in Tennessee an idiot. He then claims I need to take Paxil as it is ""the only cure for panic disorder"" which I disagre, and had no intrest in changing my medication. I was in there less than 10 minutes. He was rude, called me names and insulted my previous Doctor. I plan to make a report to the Virginia Medical Board, as well American Psychiatric Association. This ""man"" if I should call him that has no business practicing medicine. Pros: Great counselor and nice office staff. Cons: Dr Emiliani is the most unprofessional doctor I have ever encountered more

Bad Experience with Dr. Emiliani 10/9/2007

Similar experience to the other posters. Arrived, met with the intake person who was nice and took time with me. Upon going into Dr. Emiliani's office, he appeared to not actually take the time to read the intake information and was combative from the start, putting me on the defensive. Pros: Intake was good. Cons: Doctor was awful. more

Unprofessional Psychiatrist...if he can't listen, how can he help? 3/1/2007

I went to Dr. Emiliani's office today as a first time patient. First, I was set up with a ""Counselor"" who took about 45 minutes to ask me questions and get to know me. He was wonderful and really took the time to understand ""me"". Then I waited in the waiting room for about 30 minutes to see Dr. Emiliani. When I went into his office, he didn't even say hello, I had to initiate the conversation. After glimpsing at my paper for about 30 seconds he looks at me over his glasses and says, ""So...you're sad?"" Are you KIDDING ME? I tried explaining my situation briefly, because he only asked yes/no close-ended questions. Finaly he just jumps into the pills I need to start taking! He tells me that I shouldn't be weaning myself off of the pill I am currently on, because it's ""doing nothing"" for me. Right away I disagree. I was in the office with the man for less than 5 minutes and he's already telling me what is right and wrong for my body. I ask him what pill it is that he thinks I should switch to and he gave me the name. When I asked how it was different from the medicine I was currently taking he said ""listen, you're not a doctor, you don't know!"" After asking him why he was speaking to me that way he responded with, ""you're asking me questions and not listening...i'm telling you it's different...it's a chemical compound."" Having a basic knowledge of antidepressants I asked for a simple explanation. Then he told me we will try a few and see how they work...if none of them do the job they will give me a test to help decide what meds/treatment is right for me. I explained that I'd rather not waste my time taking different medications that may or may not work for me. I asked if I could just take the test and cut out the middle man...he finally agreed. I work in a hospital and have been around arrogant/rude doctors, but I have NEVER had such a negative experience in my life. He was the most UNprofessional doctor I have ever spoken to!Don't waste your time! Pros: Pleasant office staff Cons: Dr. Emiliani was RUDE and UNprofessional. Refused to educate patient about possible medications more
