This was my first and probably only visit I will ever make to this restaurant. I went with my boyfriend and two other friends. We went in and were seated immediately, which I th...

A different type of feast 10/21/2006

Went to Beau Monde for the first time last night. I must say it was good. I really enjoyed it. The ambience was cool and the food is good. I must say, I'd always pick crepes as a part of my dessert rather than as a main course. Nevertheless, it was still a good main course. The place was a bit loud, but I don't mind that at all. Rather be at a loud restaurant than an quiet one where you could even hear a needle drop. Pros: Food, Ambience Cons: Parking more

The only place to get crepes in Philly 10/18/2006

I think Beau Monde is the only place to get crepes in Philly. Thank goodness it's delicious! Lovely ambiance with french doors/windows throughout, and sitting outside is nice when weather permits. Staff is very interesting bunch of people, usually quite friendly, although sometimes a big loopy? But somehow, it sort of adds to the experience anyway! Love this place. Pros: Lovely decor, lovely ambiance, lovely staff Cons: A tad far from my house! more

most beautiful restaurant ever 9/19/2006

I was blown away by the beauty of this place. It is obvious that the designers put effort into every tiny detail. Fortunately, the food quality matches the decor. Beau Monde is a sure bet. Pros: BEAUTIFUL, great food Cons: not one more

Delicious Desserts! 9/18/2006

Recently went here for dessert with friends. It was AMAZING! The place is beautiful and the desserts were fabulous. I had a crepe with apples, caramel and brown sugar. It was huge, definitely big enough to split - but I ate the entire thing. Even after a pretty big dinner at another restuarant. I just could not let it go to waste! Definitely will go back! And - I heard the brunch is really good too. Pros: Desserts, desserts, desserts! Cons: None that I can think of! more

Phenomenal! 6/8/2006

This is quickly becoming my favorite place to eat in the city. Just off the hustle and bustle of South st, this is a laid back yet classy place to eat. If you go for nothing else, the dessert(s) here are incredible. I actually made reservations at a restaurant near there, and wound up ducking out before the waiter came back with a menu, because I realized how close the Beau was. A+++++ Pros: Atmosphere, food, service Cons: Parking, and it's only that bad, if you can't parallel park.. more

Another positive experience 4/8/2006

For a birthday dinner I came here- based on the previous reviews. Finally- a laidback yet elegant, reasonably priced French restaurant. Beautiful place, wonderful crepes. I can't wait to come to this place when its warm outside- heavenly little corner off of South St. I am not limiting Beau Monde for special occasions- it is inexpensive and laidback- many more visits to come. more

Glorified Hotpocket??? ----Hardly! 3/8/2006

At first, when I received my entree, the one description that popped into my mind was ""Glorified Hotpocket""....not to mention an expensive one. Then, bite by bite, I realized that what I was dining on was not a hotpocket, but one of the best dinners I have ever had! I can't wait to try the dessert next time around. Pros: portion size, ambiance, service Cons: prices, noise more

Bachelorette Party 1/21/2006

To kick off my sister's bachelorette party, a bunch (just a note -- I would not recommend trying to go with a LARGE group; six or seven, at most) of gals gathered at Beau Monde for dinner. I made reservations a few days prior and, sure enough, the staff was well-prepared. Our server was superb; both knowledgeable about food and beverages, not to mention the bar scene around town. A couple of gals had dessert for dinner because the dessert crepes just seemed too mouth-watering to pass up. In fact, if we had room for more, I'm certain everyone at the party would've loved to try dessert. The savory crepes were delicious as well. The ratatouille (especially great for vegetable-lovers) was melt-in-your-mouth wonderful, a perfect complement to the restaurant's equally elegant decor and ambience. No doubt I will return, probably with several of the party girls in tow. Pros: ambience, service, menu more

Delightfully light 1/12/2006

The wait was slightly longer than estimated and the service was spotty, but the baked pear salad had a delicious dressing, the savory crepe was lovely, and the chocolate, coconut, coffee ice cream sweet crepe was to die for. The most noticeable con was that conversation was nigh impossible due to the echoey acoustics. Pros: Sweet crepes, Food overall, Pretty decor Cons: Parking, Longish wait, Loud more

Absolutely wonderful 11/12/2005

The food was wonderful, all the combinations are complex but each flavor complements the other flavors. We sat outside because it was a nice day, but never felt ignored. We split the roast duck salad with cranberries and mandarin oranges, with a nice raspberry vinigarette. He had the Coq Au Vin, which is chicken simmered in red wine with tomatoes and onions. I had the smoked salmon crepe with roasted leeks and creme fraiche. We couldn't make up our minds on one dessert to split, so we ordered two and split them both. Boy were we glad. We cleaned our plates quickly when our desserts arrived. One was the baked pears with chestnut cream and chocolate sauce, the other was baked apples, roasted almonds, vanilla ice cream, and a drizzling of caramel sauce. Pros: good food, nice waitress, pretty decor Cons: a little pricey more

Good for Breakfast, Lunch, AND Dinner! 5/14/2005

I've been to this restaurant many times over the last several years, and have never been disappointed. The food is consistent and good. The dessert crepes are addictive - I cannot leave a meal, even brunch, without a dessert crepe! The savory crepes are good, but average. Definitely try some of their great salads! Love the ambience with the dark woods, painted panels, big windows, and fireplace. The service is on the whole average. Pros: Dessert more

The Perfect Date 3/5/2005

Quite possibly the best date spot. Nice romantic setting from the second you walk in the door. My waitress was funny, attentive and helpful. The crepes are to die for. There are so many ways to dress them up that you can't go wrong, theres something for everyone. Also, Sweet Crepes (desert) is a must at this romantic spot a stones throw away from the hustle and bustle of South Street. more

Cozy fireside dining 2/13/2005

I was here on a late Sunday afternoon and had a great time. The crepes were bigger and better than any I've ever had before, even in Paris. I had the recommended savory coq au vin, swiss cheese and herb butter crepe. We also had the cheese plate and pate appetizers which were very good as well. The drinks were a little pricey at $9 for a Bloody Mary but it was delicious with the spiced rim. Great atmosphere and cozy fire! It's a little expensive for what it is but still worth trying. I would definitely go back. Pros: cozy fire, great crepes, good ambience Cons: expensive drinks, a little pricey more

Too much food 11/20/2004

The first time I tried this place I liked it, because I choose a brunch crepe that wasn't too rich. Yesterday, I got the mushroom, swiss cheese, roasted almond and I added the sausage. The mushrooms was the cheap button mushrooms and the whole thing tasted like the cream of mushroom soup!! The side of potatoes that I got was dried also. I think their portions are too big and the quality is good, but not great. Pros: cozy place Cons: , quality more

one of Philly's shining stars 10/22/2004

Beau Monde is a real treasure. The food is always unbelievably good. Both vegetarians and carnivores have a huge selection of top-quality, delicious crepes, salads, and other items. I can't describe in less than 150 words how awesome the food is. The interior is beautiful yet the vibe is still casual. The staff are always friendly and attentive. I only wish I lived closer so I could go more often! Pros: amazing food, friendly atmosphere, unique Philly spot more

Always Amazing 9/16/2004

When I lived in Philly, my sister and I had a weekly dinner date at Beau Monde every Sunday night, and not once in 5 years was it a disappointment. Now living in New York, I make sure that every time we go to visit Philly, we make time for Beau Monde. The shrimp and seafood sauce crepe is incredible and the deserts are heaven, heaven, heaven! I have never had better food than at Beau Monde. My little sister has just started collge in Philly, and we're going tonight to visit, and to introduce her to the wonder known as Beau Monde! Pros: Amazing Food, Great Wine, Great Service Cons: , Not too cheap more

delicious until the end 5/26/2004

i had an anniversary dinner at beau monde recently. the crepes are delicious and the portion sizes not excessive, just right. decor is very warm, inviting and the music modern and enjoyable. i had the andouille sausage crepe and chocolate and berries crepe for dessert. they were very generous with the berries but not so much with the chocolate. the wait staff was appropriately attentive until the end, our waitress seemed to disappear! we waited quite some time for her to take our payment and ended up leaving cash and going home. it was a somewhat disappointing end to an otherwise excellent meal. Pros: delicious crepes, decor, romantic Cons: , slow service more

Interesting 2/9/2004

I was here a few years ago, and enjoyed it very much. So I decided to go back with my husband. We had a great time, waited about 30 minutes for a table on a Sunday evening. But, the bar was nice, and we enjoyed our wine, although it was a bit pricey. We ordered the fruit & cheese plate for starters. It was huge! But so delicious! We did not need our salads, but ate them anyway. They were equally huge! Our crepes were delectable. I should have ordred 1, but could not make up my mind on which one I liked better. Chicken, goat cheese, spinach and leeks! Yes - that was my fav. You must split a dessert crepe with your honey. We were rolling out of there! Overall, great food, good service, our waitress was so fun and happy - we loved her! Pros: Variety, Service more

Hard to rate 1/19/2004

Food: Awesome crepes, the ingredients blended well together for the cream spinach/chicken crepe and while the banana/Nutella crepe is a little bit too sweet, it really warms you up in the chilly afternoon. I can't, however, stress how bad BM's Escargot was, it's by far the worst in Philly and took forever to come out. In other words, avoid this dish at all costs and stick with the wonderful crepes. Service: My waitress wasn't very attentive despite the fact there were few customers in the restaurant at that time. However, other waitresses were very helpful so on an individual basis, the service is a solid D but the overall service deserves a high mark. Pros: Crepes, Service Cons: Appetizer, Service more

Great Alternative to a standard dinner 12/15/2003

Great place to go for something other than your standard ""meat, sauce, vegetable"" dining experience. Don't leave without trying a desert crepe either, I'd recommend what we got: Cherry Compote with Creme Anglaise and hazlenut ice cream on the side. You'll what you get here, you'll love the ambience, and your entre won't cost more than 15$, maybe not even 10! Try to say that about anywhere else. The only limiting factor is that you have to be in the mood for a crepe, cuz there's nothing else on the menu (for entre's and desert anyway). Also, they need to ditch the Annie Lenox soundtrack that was playing when we went. Pros: Inexpensive, great food, portions manageable Cons: Only offer crepes, parking is hard more
