Good location, bad food and horrible treatment. 2/26/2011

The owner/host of this place will start you off with a big plate of attitude. Make sure you are ok sitting where they want you to because if you ask to be moved the waitress will nicely say yes and the owner will come put an end to that type of service. ""That will not work"" even if the place is practically empty. For this owner to get this volume/ type of feed back and not even try to change his ways is a real shame. HE IS CLUELESS! more

Rude Owner! 2/20/2011

The place was empty when we got there last night a bit before 8pm. The owner greeted us at the door, demanded our license plate number (""So you won't get towed."") And sat us no where near the great views. I asked to be moved closer to the views of the ocean, he said nothing, picked up the menus and walked towards the back of the place...so we followed him. And this set the tone for our 'dining experience.' Owing to the reception we had, we stuck with soft drinks and an appetizer, just to relax from the drive over to this dead end place. The iced tea was fine but the welcome vibe and the empty place turned us off. I added up what we purchased and left a tip for the waitress. I would think that being the only customers, the owner would do more to make us happy. With business this bad, I can understand his unfriendly attitude but it doesn't make for good business! more

Response to Non customer ""Jutzputz"" 10/22/2010

We do not know East Germany or Stasi or cold war as the reviewer obviously does. We are US Citizens and our first relative came to USA in 1820. The reviewer also was not customer of our restaurant and can therefore not report anything. But he used the terrace for more than an hour with a professional photo equipment, there was no girlfriend or another person.\r There is no towing from customer's car and there is no penny on kick back. It is self-explanatory. You can ask the tow driver. The reviewer is paranoid and xenophobic and tried to patronize the establishment where he had no business. The surveillance in public places is common, the staff likes it for being protected from crimes and when they would go for talk outside there is the video too. They are working from the first day with us and you can ask them if there would be any problem. All commends are just nonsense and have nothing in common with the 295,000 served customers since 01-07. By the way it is not a cafe but a full service restaurant. We initiated the place and finished it to opening with 800k investment and 36,000 hours of our time. We are more than 40 years in this industry with many awards and recognition. We are proud having served millions covers in this industry as entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs are desperate needed right now because they build new jobs. You treat them like the reviews do you lose them and the jobs. Beside regular breakfast, lunch and dinner we are specialized in private parties and weddings for reasonable budget. The reviewer says he was promptly addressed from Sven. Later he was addressed from Elizabeth waiting for the order you normally put in when you visit a restaurant. This is what a restaurant service is about to approach the customer even twice, isn't it? This made him leave? He does not know about a restaurant business. He never intended to stay. He just used the property for his advantage and after being caught loitering is now complaining without merit.\r more

Wonderful view, friendly staff, excellent food!!! 10/21/2010

This place is wonderful. It is a perfect place to go for a relaxing evening, a great lunch, or a special event.(wedding, birthday, etc.) The staff are very polite and friendly. The food was delicous. Lamb chops were my choice & they were prepared perfectly. The view is beautiful you feel as if you are sitting on the ocean. You can also see the cruise ships leaving the port. I will DEFIANTALLY be back. After you eat you can take a stroll on the pier and enjoy another exceptional view. I did!!! more

Why is this restaurant always empty? 9/29/2010

This place MUST be a tax write off because its always empty. I fish here and would never eat at the 'restaurant,' I hear too many horror stories. Their vibe is ugly and scares away business. I've seen two young families running around looking for their car: the owner waits by the front window and calls the tow truck immediately. The signs say 'you will be ticketed' but the owners bypass that and pick up the phone and have you towed. They turn away hundreds of weekend beach goers looking for food. ""Only high priced sit down"" is available. The city gave up caring how these owners have driven people away. Meanwhile, Dania Beach Grill just down the beach is PACKED on the weekends. They must be friendly or something... The city screwed up in giving these people a contract for 30 years, something negotiated behind closed doors. Not everyone voted or benefited from pushing the contract through. Now Dania Beach is stuck with an overpriced, dead end restaurant where contrary to other posts, is mostly empty. And only 20 more years to go.... more

Owner's also working hard and deserve respect 6/12/2010

It is a shame that such media is more and more used to fight personal battles. The truth is, the more these ""reviews"" slander, the more they proof themselves wrong. Unfortunately always when some-body does not give free what wanted it is ""rude"". Well, this still is a business and pays the bills and all salaries now for more than 3 years from the sales to all those who are not batteling here because they are very pleased, in count to date appr. 295,000 people. The discriminating from the very first day against this ""not local alien"" entrepreneur is still active and one day it will kill the place, not the owner. Don't forget nobody will take the risk in such ""locale battlefield"" and nobody else local had the guts to deal with it. Pros: Nobody else had the guts to put this place up Cons: unjustified slandering and discriminating more

SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS!! 5/20/2010

May 21, 2010,\r \r Sven Jutz, President and Owner\r Beach Watch\r 300 N. Beach Road\r Dania Beach, FL 33061\r \r Mr. Jutz:\r \r Our family recently celebrated the university graduation of one of our children at Beach Watch Restaurant. We visited your restaurant the week before and spoke with Elisabeth about holding the event there for 15-20 people. We agreed that the group would order from the Sunset Menu between 4:00 and 6:30 p.m. Each person would be responsible for their own alcoholic beverage costs. All non-alcoholic beverages, appetizers, entrees and desserts would be put on a single check and paid for by the hosts. A reservation was made for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2010, preferably for seating outdoors. At no point were we told that we would need to vacate the premises by a given time. \r \r Guests ranging in age from 11 to 75 arrived between 4:00 and 4:30 p.m. Every guest ordered beverages, appetizers, entrees and dessert from the Sunset Menu. The serving staff was helpful and polite, and the view from the outdoor deck was unbelievably beautiful. Everyone was having a lovely time (despite the almost inedible food) and celebrating the occasion, our family and friends. \r \r Imagine then our surprise when you very rudely approached individuals in our group at about 7:00 p.m. and told us we needed to leave immediately because our “time was up.” At that time we had just finished dessert and the tables had not yet been cleared. We were not being noisy or causing any kind of disturbance. Most importantly, the restaurant was practically empty (now we know why), other than our group. We therefore could not understand what was causing this turn of events. This was so unexpected that the first guests you approached thought it must be some type of practical joke. When various members of our group tried to get a reason and object to your continued demands that we leave, we were told that on the “web site it stated the time limitation.” We have since gone on the Beach Watch web site and the only reference to a time limitation we find is that food can only be ordered from the Sunset Menu between 4:00 and 6:30 p.m., which we did. \r \r At the very least we feel others should know that at Beach Watch the view of the Atlantic Ocean and the company you are with will be the only things to enjoy. The food was mediocre and the overall experience left a bad taste in our mouths. \r \r Please be advised that we will be telling our family, friends, co-workers, and posting this review for your restaurant on every rating service we are aware of: If you are looking for a venue where the great food, beautiful ambiance and good service combine to create a pleasant dining experience, DON’T CHOOSE BEACH WATCH in Dania Beach! \r \r \r cc: City of Dania Beach \r Dania Beach Chamber of Commerce\r Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau\r Broward County Chamber of Commerce\r American Automobile Association\r Sun-Sentinel\r Miami Herald\r \r \r \r Pros: the view Cons: everything else that is important for a restaurant!! more

HORRIBLE PLACE 5/6/2010

after planning my wedding for months and speaking to the owner she agreed to hold my date (this was march) as long as we made the payment by april for an oct wedding, when we called in april to make the deposit she tells us she booked the date, had no apologies, didnt offer a discount anything, just basically said i could do the next weekend, i had already sent out save the dates etc, now 5 months till my wedding i have to find a new venue and change my date thanks to her cause most the venues in my price range are booked i wish i would have found this site sooner, and seen all the bad reviews. and the food was not great either Cons: Rude Owner, Bad Food more

This place is a joke and so are the owners! 4/6/2010

We ate here over the holidays. The male owner is a jerk and the chef would have a hard time feeding stray cats the food she serves. This place is terrible. I have never had to post such a negative review of any place I ate. I tried to talk to the owner, he didn't care. The chef wanted me to pay for the food we sent back! What a joke, get a grip, get out of the business!!! Pros: Great setting, that is all. Cons: Everything else more

Awful food, horrible lighting and ambience 9/22/2009

We went here over 18 months ago and I can still remember how awful the food is and clueless the owners were. The only decent thing was our waitress was nice, but I'm sure she's long gone from this establishment. And it's too bad, as they have a great setting. Too bad the quality of the food and the attitude of the management was better. Pros: Nice view of the ocean more

Great view, ok food, unbelievably rude owners 9/2/2009

We've been there with our athletic group for breakfast multiple times. We loved the view and location, we found food and prices ok. Then the owner was so unbelievably rude to some of our members that we decided to take our business elsewhere. One of our group arrived ahead of the others, asked for a table for the group and then wanted to use the restroom. The male owner snapped at her that the restroom is only for customers and she isn't a customer before she is seated. She brought up that our group is there every Sunday and was snapped at again (something like: yeah, yeah, everybody says that...). Another friend who went dining there one evening was told to wait outside (in the heat) until the rest of her party would arrive and they could be seated. I've heard multiple similar stories from different friends since then. The best view can't make up for being treated like that. \r P.S.: the last time we were there was June 21st. So I hope that what's posted in another review is true and the owner has changed. Pros: great view Cons: rude owner more

new owner 7/18/2009

I was there just yesterday and found out that, there is a new owner !!! Thank god, NOW we all can enjoy that potentially ""one of a kind"" place.Looks like pretty soon I will be able to rate this place as the best of it's kind! Pros: wowwww more
