HORRIBLE service; LAZY manager 9/24/2007

Friends and I attempted to celebrate a birthday with dinner and drinks at Bea One Friday evening. When we arrived we were told that there was a 30 minute wait for a table, so we went to the bar to wait while having drinks. There was only one bartender, who was apparently new and very slow; we were sympathetic when only one of the three martinis tasted right. Later, I ordered a 2nd drink, which I never got, and soon my friends and I sat at the bar for over 30 minutes with empty glasses--we still hadn't been taken to a table to order dinner (i.e. we had waited at the bar for over an hour and still hadn't gotten a table though we were told it'd be a 30 minute wait). \r \r Finally one friend went to the hostess station to check on things and stood there for ten minutes without a hostess coming to respond to him or the crowd of people by the front door; he was told by many of the crowd that they had made reservations and had been standing there for 20-30 minutes and had still not been greeted by the hostess! Both the hostess and bartender seemed to be overwhelmed so it was amazing to us that the manager was sitting at the end of the bar the entire time, doing nothing to help with the situation! I finally complained to her about our wait--I tried to point out that waiting a long time for a table wouldn't have been so bad if one could at least get a drink. She seemed indifferent to the poor service and like I was crazy for complaining. \r \r No longer calm, we decided we'd go elsewhere and thought it was a little odd that the manager didn't offer to comp or discount the drinks after our exchange, esp. when one friend had given her a Discover card, which she walked away with and then returned a few minutes later because they don't accept Discover. At that point we thought any normal person would?ve finally said not to worry about it, just to get us out the door! more

best sushi, date spot, and service 4/16/2007

We went to Bea One for the first time last night and had a great time. The atmosphere was great with sake drinks that were made into cocktails. My date was a meat and potatoes kind of guy and the server was kind enough to guide us through. He tried the beef short ribs galbi and I had the peppercorn tuna with mango salsa. We absolutely love this place. Be sure to try the Bea One roll as an appetizer and the fried banana tempura. \r \r Pros: romantic, great food, great service, ambience Cons: parking across the street in parking garage, although it was free more

Best Asian Restaurant 6/7/2006

I am originallly from New York, and presently live in Chicago. I stopped by on my way from a road trip from Florida to Chicago and was craving Asian food. We drove by the interstate and stopped at a gas station in a town called Lafayette and asked a couple beside us if they knew of a good restaurant which served Japanese or Korean food. They said that there was restaurant in downtown about 2 miles down the road. We found a restaurant in a building not too noticeable. We circled a couple blocks and finally got to the destination. We went in and ordered two appetizers. One of which was called Seafood Pancake that looked like a pizza. The sauce was incredible! Also, we ordered some kind of roll that was tempura fried. For dinner we ordered a box which had beautiful assortments of food and also a Seafood Pasta. The food was very flavorful and and full of color. It was a roll that I have now request at my favorite Japanese restaurant in Chicago. The interior was great, very contemporary and modern. The service was great considering the restaurant was packed on Tuesday night for their martini or sake night. I absolutely love this restaurant and would love for them to open in Chicago. Pros: great ambiance, great music, great food Cons: can't find the place because it's a bit hidden more

Disappointing 4/10/2006

After hearing much hype, I was very disappointed by Bea One. The standard for Asian restaurants seems to be fairly low in Lafayette. My boyfriend and I both found our entrées bland, though I believe they are known for their sushi and we did not have any. Our waitress was rude, slow, forgetful, and was actually switched midway through our meal only to be replaced by a different incompetent waitress. The atmosphere was plain and uninviting. Cons: Bland food, Incompetent staff, Dull atmosphere more
